Founded in 1878 as Le Courrier de Houma by French-born Lafayette Bernard Filhucan Bazet, the paper published its first editions half in French and half in English. It is Terrebonne Parish's oldest living newspaper.
Owned by Gannett, The Courier is a sister paper to the Daily Comet in Thibodaux.
