First published December 8, 1877, by Civil War veteran Horace N. Hastings and three of his sons, the Item remained in Hastings/Gamage family ownership for five generations — 137 years — until its 2014 sale.
Owned since 2014 by the local investment group Essex Media Group, the Daily Item is headquartered in Lynn.
