The Sun is a daily newspaper based in Lowell, Massachusetts, serving the Greater Lowell area, including Middlesex County and parts of southern New Hampshire.
Founded August 10, 1878 as the Lowell Weekly Sun by brothers John and Daniel Harrington, it became a daily in 1892. The paper was family-owned by the Harrington-Costello family for 119 years before its 1997 sale.
Since 1997, The Sun has been owned by MediaNews Group, the newspaper chain owned by hedge fund Alden Global Capital.
