The Odessa American is a digital daily newspaper based in Odessa, Texas, serving Odessa, Ector County, and the Permian Basin. Its print edition appears twice a week.
Formed on October 2, 1940, when R. Henderson Shuffler consolidated the Daily Bulletin and the News-Times, the paper has covered the Permian Basin for more than eight decades. Freedom Newspapers bought it in 1948; AIM Media Texas acquired it in 2012.
The Odessa American won the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for spot photography.
