The paper passed through Harte-Hanks, MediaNews, Thomson and Hollinger; Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. bought it in 1999. The Item's presses also print Texas A&M's Battalion and Sam Houston State's Houstonian. It publishes 5 days a week.
