About Absolut Hot

Absolut Hot

Absolut Hot — "Neuer! Geiler! Hotter!" — is the youth pop wave of the Absolut Radio family (Antenne Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG), broadcasting nationwide on DAB+. Launched on 6 September 2013 at 6:05 a.m. in the Rhine-Main region, it plays contemporary hit radio (CHR): the current charts, the pop hits. Since 5 October 2020, it has broadcast on the second national DAB+ multiplex. The Garching bei München-based station (studios since April 2021) is managed by Francie Petrick; programme director is Kevin Schieber.

Overview

Absolut Hot broadcasts from Garching bei München nationwide on DAB+ (2nd Bundesmux), Astra satellite, and worldwide livestream. The station is privately owned and financed through radio advertising.

History

Absolut Hot began on 6 September 2013 at 6:05 a.m. — the Absolut family's youth programme, launched on the Rhine-Main DAB+ sites (Großer Feldberg, Frankfurt/Europaturm). The launch's choreography — the new youth wave taking the DAB+ slots vacated by Absolut Relax's Bavarian/Hessian frequencies — was the digital radio's format shuffle: the soft AC moving national, the CHR taking the regional digital.

On 5 October 2020, Absolut Hot joined the second national DAB+ multiplex — Antenne Deutschland's private national platform — and went live-moderated on weekdays: the presenters Marlon Lames, Jana Uhl, Sophia Ansari, and Marcel Mayr. In April 2021, the station moved to the new Garching bei München studios: the Absolut family's broadcast centre, the Munich suburb's media hub.

The Absolut Family: Six Senders, One House

Absolut Hot belongs to the Absolut Radio family — Antenne Deutschland's six national DAB+ senders: Absolut Hot (CHR youth), Absolut Relax (Soft AC, the only one on the 1st Bundesmux), Absolut Bella (schlager/oldies), Absolut Germany ("Deutschlands Mainstage", German-language music), Absolut Top 2000er (2000s to today), Absolut Classics (70s/80s/90s oldies) — plus the online-only streams and the former Absolut Radio (now Absolut musicXL, online only since 2013). The family's logic — the genres as stations, the DAB+ multiplex's capacity — is the private radio's digital bouquet: the formats the FM dial never allowed, the national niches.

The family's history — the 1 August 2011 Absolut Radio launch on the first Bundesmux, the 2012–2013 digital expansion (Relax, Hot), the 2017 Bella, the 2020 national multiplex move, the 2022 Germany — charts the private DAB+ decade: the digital pioneer's growth, the formats' multiplication. The Garching studios (since April 2021) — the family's broadcast centre — unify the brands: the six senders' shared house, the Munich suburb's DAB+ hub.

Antenne Deutschland: The Multiplex Operator

Antenne Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG — the second national DAB+ multiplex's operator, based in Garching bei München — is Absolut Hot's owner and the private DAB+ infrastructure's builder. The 5 October 2020 multiplex launch — 71 transmitter sites, 67 million citizens' potential reach — created Germany's first purely private national DAB+ platform: the private broadcasters' digital frequencies, the public multiplex's commercial counterpart.

The operator's dual role — the multiplex's builder and the Absolut family's broadcaster — is the private DAB+ model's vertical integration: the infrastructure and the content, the platform and the programmes. The third-party programmes — Antenne Bayern's Oldie/Rock Antenne, RTL, Toggo Radio, Energy's Nostalgie, Klassik Radio's Beats, AIDAradio, Brillux Radio, Regiocast's 80s80s/90s90s — fill the multiplex alongside the Absolut six: the private radio's digital diversity, the operator's tenants.

The 2022 YouTube channel — the Absolut family's video extension — and the ad.audio joint venture (with Antenne Deutschland, the digital audio campaigns) show the operator's platform thinking: the DAB+ as the base, the digital as the growth. The Garching broadcast centre — the Sendezentrum — is the private national radio's physical home: the Munich suburb's transmission hub.

"Trending Tuesday": The Influencer Talk

"Trending Tuesday" — Marcel Mayr's Tuesday 5–7 p.m. influencer talk — is Absolut Hot's digital-native signature: Germany's content creators in the radio studio, the social-media dos and don'ts discussed live on air. The format's concept — the radio meeting the influencer economy — bridges the broadcast and the platform: the linear radio's reach, the creators' communities.

The show's logic — the youth audience's media diet, the influencers' authority — reflects the 2020s' attention economy: the TikTokers and YouTubers as the youth's stars, the radio as their stage. The live on-air conversation — the unscripted, the interactive — gives the creators the broadcast's legitimacy: the influencers' radio baptism. The "Neuer! Geiler! Hotter!" attitude — the youth brand's provocation — finds its Tuesday expression: the trends discussed, the hot takes aired.

Private Youth Radio: The Market Position

Absolut Hot's market — the private national youth CHR — competes with the public 1LIVE (the WDR's 2.68 million) and the regional private youth waves (planet radio, Energy's stations): the youth pop's crowded field. The private national advantage — the DAB+ country-wide reach, the CHR format's clarity — positions the Hot against the public giant: the commercials' youth alternative, the "Neuer! Geiler! Hotter!" challenge.

The format's economics — the youth audience's advertising value, the CHR's mass appeal — fund the national DAB+ presence: the 15-to-29 demographic's commercial prize, the private radio's youth bet. The live weekday moderation — the presenters' personalities, the local Rhine-Main roots grown national — humanises the CHR machine: the youth wave's voices, the Hot's faces.

The satellite carriage — Astra 23.5° East — extends the reach: the DAB+ terrestrial plus the satellite's footprint, the youth CHR's ubiquity. The app and webstream — the digital natives' platforms — complete the distribution: the Hot everywhere, the youth's constant companion.

Programming

Absolut Hot's format is CHR — the current charts: the pop hits' rotation (the Guettas, the Styles, the Larssons), the youth's soundtrack. The weekday live moderation — Marlon Lames, Jana Uhl, Sophia Ansari, Marcel Mayr — drives the brand: the presenters' energy, the "Neuer! Geiler! Hotter!" attitude, the youth wave's voices. "Trending Tuesday" — the influencer talk with Marcel Mayr (Tuesdays 5–7 p.m.) — is the digital-native signature: Germany's content creators live on air, the social-media dos and don'ts, the radio meeting the influencer economy.

Garching: The Private DAB+ Capital

Absolut Hot broadcasts from Garching bei München — the Munich suburb that has become private national radio's capital. The Garching studios (since April 2021) — the Absolut family's broadcast centre — house the six senders: the Hot's CHR, the Relax's soft AC, the Bella's schlager, the Germany's "Mainstage", the Top 2000er's hits, the Classics' oldies. The Sendezentrum — Antenne Deutschland's transmission hub — is the second Bundesmux's physical home: the multiplex's headend, the private DAB+'s engine room.

Garching's media geography — the Munich suburb's research campus (the TU München), the broadcast centre's arrival — mirrors the digital radio's decentralisation: the national private radio produced outside the traditional media capitals, the DAB+ multiplex's greenfield. The 2021 move — the Absolut family's consolidation in Garching — unified the brands: the six senders' shared house, the private national radio's address.

Absolut Hot broadcasts nationwide on DAB+ (2nd Bundesmux), via Astra 23.5° East satellite, and worldwide livestream. The national multiplex gives the youth CHR the country-wide stage: the private youth pop's national frequency.
