About Börse Online
Börse Online
Börse Online is a German weekly magazine for the stock market and private finance, published in Munich. Part of the Finanzen Verlag portfolio acquired by the Kulmbach-based Börsenmedien AG in November 2021, it serves private investors with timely, competent, and independent stock-market reporting — in print, online, and via newsletter — as one of three weekly investor titles in Germany's largest private-investor publishing group. Its digital home is boerse-online.de, one of Germany's leading finance portals.
Overview
Börse Online is one of the weekly investor titles in the Börsenmedien AG's financial publishing group — alongside Der Aktionär and Euro am Sonntag as the three weekly titles, plus the monthlies einfach börse and Euro. The magazine addresses private investors, professional investors, and decision-makers in business and politics with market analyses, company coverage, and investment strategy. Its publisher describes the group's financial editors — more than 100 across Kulmbach, Munich, Frankfurt am Main, and Berlin — as bringing business and stock-market events to readers "seriously and competently" for more than 30 years, a continuity that stretches back through the Finanzen Verlag era to the title's Gruner + Jahr years.
History
Börse Online's corporate history runs through the Finanzen Verlag of Munich — one of Germany's most storied financial publishers. The Finanzen Verlag was founded in 1990; on 26 January 1990 the first issue of the monthly magazine Finanzen appeared. In 1996 the Axel Springer AG acquired 74.9 percent of the publishing house, and in 1998 the first issue of the weekly financial newspaper €uro am Sonntag — aimed at private investors — was published. In 2001 Springer bought the remaining shares and renamed the house Axel Springer Finanzen Verlag, later AS Financial Media. At the end of 2004 the company took over the monthly DM-Euro from the Verlagsgruppe Handelsblatt and merged it with Finanzen magazine; from January the new magazine appeared under the name €uro.
In 2009 Börse Online — then a Gruner + Jahr title — was merged with Capital, Financial Times Deutschland, and Impulse into a joint Hamburg editorial team, pooling the group's business journalism. As Springer withdrew from printed business media in the course of its digitisation strategy, the Finanzen Verlag magazines were sold in 2010 to an investment company that continued the publishing house under its long-standing managing director Frank-Bernhard Werner. In 2010, as Springer withdrew from printed business media in its digitisation drive, the Finanzen Verlag magazines were sold to an investment company that continued the publishing house under its long-standing managing director Frank-Bernhard Werner — preserving the Munich financial-publishing tradition outside the Springer group. In 2016 the Finanzen Verlag took a stake in Tichys Einblick GmbH, publisher of the opinion site tichyseinblick.de, and from October 2016 published the eponymous print magazine; after the site's publisher Roland Tichy drew criticism in autumn 2020 for sexist lapses published therein, the publishing house's works council wrote to Werner fearing for the company's reputation — Werner justified the participation on purely financial grounds while pledging greater attention to avoiding statements "with sexist or racist connotation". The episode belongs to the Finanzen Verlag's corporate history in the years before the Börsenmedien AG takeover, and is recorded here as part of that history. In 2013 the Finanzen Verlag acquired the investor magazine Börse Online together with the internet portal boerse-online.de from Gruner + Jahr — reuniting the title with Munich's financial publishing tradition and giving the Finanzen Verlag a second weekly alongside €uro am Sonntag.
In November 2021 the Kulmbach-based Börsenmedien AG — publisher of the weekly investor magazine Der Aktionär, founded in 1989 as a pure book publisher and an integrated media company since 1996 — acquired the Munich Finanzen Verlag GmbH. With the acquisition of the titles Börse Online, Euro, and Euro am Sonntag, the group reported 5.86 million sold copies per year and nearly five million monthly readers, creating one of Germany's leading publishing offerings for private investors. In September 2022 the Börsenmedien AG announced the merger with Finanzen Verlag GmbH. The combined group counts three weekly and two monthly titles, numerous specialist services, several digital platforms — including Finanztreff.de, acquired in 2018, and boerse-online.de — over 100 financial editors, and more than 250 employees in Kulmbach, Munich, Frankfurt am Main, and Berlin: what the company calls Germany's largest publishing offering for private investors, with 112,759 sold copies per week across the five titles.
Content and Profile
Börse Online provides timely, competent, and independent stock-market reporting: market analyses, company valuations, sector coverage, and investment strategy for private investors. The weekly rhythm serves self-directed investors who follow the markets continuously, with the print magazine complemented by the boerse-online.de portal's daily coverage and newsletters. The portal is one of the group's leading digital platforms — alongside deraktionaer.de and Finanztreff.de — carrying market news, data, and analysis to the group's nearly five million monthly readers. For self-directed investors, boerse-online.de provides the daily layer beneath the weekly print magazine: continuous market coverage during the trading week, with the print issue delivering the deeper analyses, valuations, and strategy pieces at the weekend. Newsletters bridge the two, bringing the brand into readers' inboxes between issues. Within the Börsenmedien portfolio, Börse Online sits alongside Der Aktionär — the group's flagship weekly — and €uro am Sonntag, giving the group three distinct weekly voices for the private-investor audience: the shareholder's magazine, the market weekly, and the Friday investment paper.
Circulation and Audience
As part of the group's five-title portfolio, Börse Online contributes to the 5.86 million copies sold per year (112,759 per week) reported at the 2021 acquisition — the scale that makes the Börsenmedien AG, by its own account, Germany's largest publishing offering for private investors. Individually, the title's hard sold circulation was reported at 20,111 copies in the third quarter of 2018, with total distributed circulation of 22,232. The audience is private investors and market professionals — readers the publisher addresses in print, online, and newsletter formats, spanning self-directed investors who follow the markets week by week and decision-makers in business and politics. The group's digital platforms extend that reach to nearly five million monthly readers.
Ownership
Börse Online is published within the Börsenmedien AG group of Kulmbach, owned by the entrepreneur Bernd Förtsch — who is also founder, largest shareholder, and supervisory board member of the online broker Flatexdegiro. The Finanzen Verlag's Munich operation continues under the group's umbrella following the September 2022 merger.
Digital Presence
The magazine's digital home is boerse-online.de, one of the group's leading finance portals alongside deraktionaer.de and Finanztreff.de — the latter acquired in 2018 and integrated into the group's digital offering. The portal carries daily market coverage, complementing the weekly print magazine, with newsletters extending the brand into readers' inboxes. Together with Der Aktionär's online edition — over four million unique users — the group's digital platforms reach nearly five million monthly readers, making the Börsenmedien AG one of Germany's most-visited financial publishers online. From its Gruner + Jahr years through the Finanzen Verlag era to its place in Germany's largest private-investor publishing group, Börse Online has remained a weekly constant for German-speaking investors — in print every week, online every day, year after year, through every market cycle — bull markets, bear markets, and everything in between. The September 2022 Finanzen Verlag merger consolidated that position within the Börsenmedien AG group — Germany's largest private-investor publishing house, built from the Kulmbach book publisher of 1989.
