About Toggo Radio
Toggo Radio
Toggo Radio is a German children's radio station operated by Super RTL, broadcasting all day from Cologne since 15 June 2020. Described at launch as Germany's first child- and family-friendly radio station, it extends the Toggo children's television brand — on air since 2001 — into audio, offering age-appropriate moderation, children's news, pop songs, children's songs and radio plays. The station is receivable via DAB+, satellite, the Toggo app and website, radio aggregators and smart speakers, and is financed primarily through advertising aimed at children and families.
Overview
Toggo Radio's programme is organised into four clearly separated strands aimed at different dayparts and audiences. The weekday morning show (5:30–8:30 a.m.) addresses children directly; the late-morning strand (8:30 a.m.–1 p.m.) is aimed at parents and families; the afternoon show (2–6:30 p.m.) returns to children. A specially produced children's news programme, "Täglich Toggo", presents current events in age-appropriate form. The music mixes classic pop songs with children's songs, while magazine features, reports, comedy and interviews explore topics in child-friendly depth. Radio plays — including "Die drei ???", "Woozle Goozle" and "The Penguins of Madagascar" — are a staple of the schedule. Management sits with Oliver Schablitzki and Inga Leschek, with Kerstin Grunwald directing programming.
History
Toggo Radio was launched at the end of May 2020 (regular operation from 15 June 2020) as Super RTL extended its Toggo brand — the children's programming block that has aired on Super RTL since 2001 for six-to-thirteen-year-olds, its name a fantasy word — from television into radio. The launch made it the first German radio station explicitly conceived as child- and family-friendly. The timing reflected both the strength of the Toggo brand and the growth of in-car and smart-speaker listening among families.
The parent company's history frames the launch: Super RTL began in 1995 as a joint venture between the RTL Group's predecessor CLT and The Walt Disney Company, becoming Germany's second television channel aimed mostly at children. In March 2021 Disney sold its stake to RTL Deutschland, putting Super RTL under full RTL control for the first time; the channel's primetime block was rebranded RTL Super in 2023, while daytime children's programming continued under Toggo. In October 2024 the preschool sub-brand Toggolino was discontinued, with all children's programming consolidated under the single Toggo name — making Toggo Radio part of a unified brand architecture spanning TV, app, web and radio.
Since 2024 the weekends have also been moderated: presenters Daniel Storb and Michelle Olion phone children several times a day and play on-air games with them, extending the interactive character of the station beyond weekdays.
Programming
The programme's architecture follows the family day. Mornings belong to children waking up and getting ready, with presenters Leandra Ibe, Vanessa Civiello and Simón Albers; late mornings address parents and families with Beatrice Hoffmann; afternoons return to children with Ariana Müller, Johanna Müssiger and Alexander Kumpf. "Täglich Toggo" delivers news made for young listeners. Beyond music — a mix of familiar pop and dedicated children's songs — the schedule includes magazine contributions, reports, comedy segments and interviews designed to deepen topics in ways children can follow, plus the radio-play library that gives the station its storytelling depth. The weekend phone-ins and games add live interactivity, with children participating directly in the broadcast.
Coverage & Audience
Toggo Radio is receivable via DAB+ digital radio, via the Astra 19.2° East satellite, through the Toggo app and the Toggo website, on radio aggregators and via smart speakers — a distribution mix designed for family listening situations: the car, the kitchen, the children's room. The station does not hold FM frequencies; its reach is entirely digital, which suits a brand whose audience is already platform-agnostic. Separately published audience figures were not available in the sources consulted; the station is sold to advertisers against the family target group.
Ownership
Toggo Radio is operated by Super RTL (Super RTL Fernsehen GmbH), the Cologne-based children's media company now fully owned by RTL Deutschland following Disney's 2021 exit. The station extends a brand portfolio that includes the Toggo TV block, the Toggo app and web platforms, and — since the 2023 rebrand — the RTL Super primetime offering. Within RTL Deutschland's audio strategy, Toggo Radio complements the group's other radio interests, which include the Berlin stations 104.6 RTL and 105'5 Spreeradio, Hitradio RTL Sachsen and stakes in bigFM and Radio Regenbogen.
Digital Presence
Digital platforms are Toggo Radio's natural habitat. The station is distributed through the Toggo app and website — the same digital home as the television brand's on-demand content — alongside radio aggregators, smart speakers, DAB+ and satellite. The app and web presence integrate the radio programme into the broader Toggo ecosystem of videos, games and interactive content for children. Social media channels address parents as well as older children, promoting programme highlights and brand events. Wikipedia lists the station's homepage among its external links; the official domain could not be load-verified from this environment, so no website address is asserted here. As a DAB+-and-app-native station launched in 2020, Toggo Radio represents the generation of German radio brands built for streaming-first family listening.
Super RTL's Children's Radio
Toggo Radio is the all-day children's radio station operated by Super RTL since 15 June 2020 — launched for the Cologne broadcaster's 25th birthday as its expansion from television into radio. It is receivable via the Toggo app, the Toggo website, radio aggregators, DAB+ (on the second federal multiplex), Astra 19.2° East and smart speakers — but not on FM. The station is financed primarily by radio advertising aimed at the children-and-families target groups. The managing directors are Oliver Schablitzki and Inga Leschek; the programme director is Kerstin Grunwald. The name Toggo is a fantasy term: it has been Super RTL's children's programme brand since 2001, aimed at six- to thirteen-year-olds (with Toggolino for pre-schoolers), and since 2016 also a timeshift channel, Toggo Plus.
Four Dayparts for Kids and Parents
The programme is target-group-oriented and consists of four dayparts. The morning show, weekdays 5:30–8:30 a.m., is aimed at children and hosted by Leandra Ibe, Vanessa Civiello and Simón Albers. The forenoon slot, hosted by Beatrice Hoffmann weekdays 8:30 a.m.–1 p.m., addresses parents and families. The afternoon programme, weekdays 2–6:30 p.m. with Ariana Müller, Johanna Müssiger and Alexander Kumpf, is for children again. Alongside the news programme Täglich Toggo, prepared specially for children, classic pop songs and children's songs are played; magazine features, reports, comedies and interviews explore topics in a child-friendly way. Audio dramas are broadcast too — including Die drei ???, Woozle Goozle and the Penguins of Madagascar. Since 2024 the weekend has also been moderated: Daniel Storb and Michelle Olion phone children several times a day and play games with them on air.
The Toggo Universe Expands
Toggo Radio is part of the Toggo brand universe that Super RTL — Germany's first private children's TV station, launched 28 April 1995, fully acquired by the RTL Group in March 2021 — has built around its young audience: apps, videos, games, websites and the annual Toggo Tour through German cities. As the first German children-and-family-friendly radio station of a major TV brand, it joined Radio Teddy (on air since 2005) in the small but growing German children's-radio market — digital-only, app-first, and shaped by the characters children already know from the screen.
