About Ballermann Radio
Ballermann Radio
Ballermann Radio is a German-language party music radio station broadcasting from Wetter in Hesse, dedicated to schlager, party hits and après-ski anthems. Operating under the slogan "Wir sind Dein Partysender Nummer 1" — we are your number one party station — it brings the atmosphere and musical style of Germany's party and holiday regions, above all the Platja de Palma on Mallorca, to listeners at home. The station's name comes from the Ballermann 6 beach bar on Mallorca, which in the 1990s became synonymous with exuberant party culture. Founded as a concept in 2005 and relaunched under its current operator on 1 December 2008, Ballermann Radio spent its first decade and a half as an internet stream before going nationwide on terrestrial DAB+ on 24 July 2024, taking over the slot of Driver's Radio in the Antenne Deutschland multiplex. It is licensed by the Medienanstalt Hessen and financed through advertising.
Overview
Ballermann Radio serves the party-schlager audience: listeners who love German schlager, "Stimmungsmusik" singalong hits, après-ski anthems and current party smashes — the repertoire of the Mallorca beach clubs, the ski-hut parties of Ischgl, St. Anton and Sölden, and the giant "Olé" party tours that fill German arenas. The programme is built for good mood around the clock: high-energy party music, listener requests and greetings, and live broadcasts from events. The station enables listeners to request songs and send greetings on air, and its team regularly reports live from parties and events, capturing the atmosphere on location.
Distribution was long digital-only: the internet stream and apps carried the station from its early days. The decisive expansion came on 24 July 2024, when Ballermann Radio was added nationwide to the DAB+ multiplex of Antenne Deutschland — the second national DAB+ platform — taking over the programme slot previously held by Driver's Radio. Overnight, the party station became receivable terrestrially across Germany, a transformation from web radio to national broadcast brand. The company seat is in Wetter, Hesse, and the station is operated by the BMR Radio UG of Klaus Drescher. The Ballermann brand itself is a protected trademark of A. Engelhardt Markenkonzepte GmbH, which licenses the name to the radio — in 2012/13 even granting an exclusive licence that secured the station's long-term planning.
History
The Ballermann phenomenon began in the 1990s at the Platja de Palma on Mallorca, where the beach bar Ballermann 6 gave its name to an entire culture of German package-holiday partying. Annette and André Engelhardt protected the Ballermann trademark in that decade and built it into one of Germany's best-known party brands, igniting a party boom that continues to this day. The radio concept followed in 2005: the idea of bringing the Ballermann atmosphere home to listeners year-round as a dedicated party station.
After the trademark licence was granted, Ballermann Radio went on air on 1 December 2008 under its new operator, Klaus Drescher's BMR Radio UG — though the early days were, in Drescher's own recollection, somewhat chaotic. Over the following years the programme was progressively structured and the offering expanded: cult shows were established, live broadcasts from numerous events became routine, and the station began organizing its own Ballermann parties. By its tenth anniversary in December 2018, the station could look back on a decade as what it called the leading web radio for schlager, pop-schlager and party hits, with partnerships including the Megapark on Mallorca, Summerfield Booking and the organizers of the Olé parties. The party season, the station noted, runs year-round: in summer with live acts from Ballermann artists, in winter accompanying the parties in the top ski resorts.
The next milestone was terrestrial. On 24 July 2024 Ballermann Radio launched nationwide on DAB+ in the Antenne Deutschland multiplex, inheriting the slot of Driver's Radio and instantly becoming a national terrestrial brand. The move capped the station's evolution from a web-radio experiment into a full member of Germany's digital radio landscape. Along the way the station deepened its event business: cooperations such as the Ballermann party ship — the MS Rheingold, a 55-metre, three-deck vessel for up to 600 guests, operated with THE NEXT EVENT — brought the brand onto the Rhine, while the campaign "Mit jedem Bier retten wir ein Tier" (with every beer we save an animal) tied the party brand to the animal-welfare work of Gut Aiderbichl, whose Ballermann Ranch became part of its sanctuary network in 2019.
Programming
The music programme is pure party: German schlager, pop-schlager, singalong "Stimmungsmusik", après-ski hits and the current party smashes — the canon of the Mallorca clubs and ski huts, from the evergreen party anthems of past decades to this season's hits. The presentation is high-energy and participatory: listeners request songs, send greetings to friends and family, and join in the station's party logic that treats every day as a potential celebration. Regular features and cult shows structure the schedule, many of them developed over the station's decade-plus on air.
Live event broadcasting is central to the concept. The station transmits live from Ballermann parties, Olé tour events, ski-resort parties and its own events such as the party-ship cruises, with moderators animating the crowd on stage between acts — a role the station's presenters have played at events from Saalbach to Sölden. Media partnerships have included the Olé party series across German cities and the "Schlagerparty" festival, and collaborations around the Ballermann-Hits compilations with EMI and RTL II connected the station to the commercial heart of the party-schlager industry. The tone throughout is unabashedly fun: Ballermann Radio does not do melancholy.
Organization and Ownership
Ballermann Radio is operated by BMR Radio UG (haftungsbeschränkt), based in Wetter, Hesse, led by Klaus Drescher. The "Ballermann" name is used under licence from the trademark owner A. Engelhardt Markenkonzepte GmbH of Blockwinkel (Sulingen), run by Annette and André Engelhardt, who built the Ballermann party brand in the 1990s; the radio has held licences from the brand owner since 2008, including an exclusive licence granted around 2012/13. The station is licensed as a broadcaster by the Medienanstalt Hessen and financed through advertising revenue.
The station's partnerships extend across the party industry: the Megapark on Mallorca, the Olé party organizers, Summerfield Booking, THE NEXT EVENT for the party ship, and the Gut Aiderbichl animal sanctuary network for the charity campaign. These cooperations make Ballermann Radio as much an event brand as a radio station — a party organizer with its own national frequency.
Digital Presence
The station's website at ballermann-radio.de is the hub of the brand, carrying the live stream, programme information, event announcements and the shop for party-ship tickets and merchandise. The stream remains available worldwide alongside the DAB+ terrestrial signal, serving the party-schlager diaspora and holidaymakers planning their next Mallorca trip. The station is listed on all major radio aggregators and smart-speaker platforms, and its apps have been part of the offering since the web-radio days.
On social media Ballermann Radio maintains an active presence with party imagery, event coverage, artist news and listener interaction — the Facebook player was an early innovation that helped grow the audience in the 2010s. The website also serves the event business directly, selling tickets for the Ballermann party ship and promoting the station's own parties. For a brand built on atmosphere, the digital presence is the year-round party: the stream, the event calendar and the social channels keep the Ballermann spirit alive between the summer season on Mallorca and the winter season in the Alps.
