About Marine Business News
Marine Business News
Overview
Marine Business News is an Australian online news service for the recreational marine industry, publishing at marinebusinessnews.com.au under the masthead line "Australia's Marine Business Industry News Source". It reports the business side of boating — manufacturers, dealers, marinas, boat shows, associations, regulators and the people who run them — rather than boat tests for consumers, and it describes itself, in its own words, as "an Australian owned marine industry news service publishing local and international news". The service is published by Domenic Genua, a long-time marine industry events and marketing executive, and it is unambiguously current: its homepage carried multiple stories dated between 13 and 16 October 2026 when reviewed, and it also distributes a weekly email newsletter to the trade.
Marine Business News should not be confused with similarly named overseas or earlier services. It is not MarineBusiness-World.com, the trade title of the Tetra Media (Sail-World) group, nor the United Kingdom's Marine Business, published from Brixham by Splash Publicity; Marine Business News is the Australian service run by Genua from Sydney.
History
Marine Business News was established by Domenic Genua and was publishing by September 2021, when its report of Tim Simpson's appointment at Trade a Boat appeared on the site; the service does not publish a founding account of itself, and no earlier launch date is asserted here. Genua came to the venture from the industry's association side: a Boating Industry Association (BIA) media release records him as the association's General Manager – Marketing, Events & Communication, a role that placed him at the centre of the country's boat show and industry-events scene for years before he was publishing under his own masthead.
The service's archive shows it settling into its format in its first years. Its newsletter of 6 October 2023 — distributed as a Friday eNews — carried a publisher's note from Genua covering that week's stories, from marina purchases and coronial findings to industry awards, partnerships and product releases, and described the website's resources for readers: links, photo libraries, reviews, an international events calendar, a jobs board and a log of past Friday newsletters. An earlier 2022 newsletter shows the same format already in place — signed "Domenic Genua - Publisher" — mixing trade news with honours coverage, including Marine Rescue NSW volunteers receiving Emergency Services Medals and Rivergate Marina and Shipyard director Judy Brinsmead's appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2022 Queen's Birthday Honours. In 2022 the site also ran "The Risk Takers", a four-part history series by Danny Casey profiling figures from powerboat racing history, including tunnel-boat builder and driver Renato Molinari — an early sign of the service's mix of daily trade news with longer industry storytelling.
Content and Coverage
The site's coverage is organised around the trade's working categories: industry and shipping news, boat shows, people, rescue and services, boat showcases, government, lifestyle and association news. A typical week, as shown by its mid-October 2026 homepage, mixes hard trade items — show exhibitor announcements, product and company news, safety and regulatory matters — with reported features. Its "In Conversation" interviews question industry leaders at length; an October 2026 instalment interviewed the managing director of marine insurer Pantaenius on the Australian market, product development and digital change. Publisher Domenic Genua writes personally signed pieces as well, including an October 2026 preview of the Melbourne Boat Show at Docklands (15–18 October 2026) drawing on the exhibitor news the service had received.
The weekly newsletter reframes the site's coverage for subscribers: the 2023 editions show a publisher's note from Genua at the top, followed by the week's stories across the service's categories, with the newsroom inviting readers to send stories for publication. Safety and regulatory coverage is a recurring strand: the October 2023 newsletter, for instance, dealt with National Safe Boating Week, lifejacket effectiveness and a compliance blitz by maritime authorities checking boaters against the rules. Boat show coverage is another particular strength and a reflection of the publisher's background: the service covers the calendar of Australian shows closely and, in 2026, has been reporting the development of the new Australian International Boat Show as a news story in its own right, including Informa's opening of exhibitor applications for the inaugural 2027 edition.
Audience and Reach
Marine Business News is written for the Australian marine trade: boat builders and importers, dealers and brokers, marina and shipyard operators, equipment suppliers, insurers and finance providers, industry associations and the government agencies that regulate boating. Its own 2023 newsletter describes the intended readership plainly — an Australian-owned service publishing local and international news for the industry — and invites news submissions from that readership through its newsroom. That the trade uses it as a channel is visible in Genua's October 2026 Melbourne Boat Show preview, where he remarked on the volume of news arriving at Marine Business News from businesses announcing their participation in the show; the service is also listed in boot Düsseldorf's international media directory, which records its publisher and newsroom contacts for the global industry. No audited audience, subscriber or traffic figure for the service was found in the sources consulted, and none is claimed here; its standing is best evidenced by the volume and currency of its trade coverage and by the publisher's continuing roles at the centre of the industry's events sector.
Digital Presence
Marine Business News is a digital-only publication. Its website publishes new stories daily — several items a day were appearing in mid-October 2026 — organised by the categories above, with an archive running back to at least 2021. The Friday e-newsletter, distributed by email to subscribers, collects the week's coverage with a personal note from the publisher, and the site maintains the supporting services its newsletter describes: an international events calendar, a jobs board, photo libraries and resource links. News tips and stories are solicited through the newsroom email published on the site and in the newsletter.
Ownership and Organisation
Marine Business News is published by Domenic Genua, who signs the service's newsletters and bylines as its publisher. The boot Düsseldorf international media list records the publisher behind the title as Mirror Image Marketing, with Genua as the contact. Genua holds the publisher role alongside senior positions in the industry's events sector: in October 2026 he was bylined on the site both as publisher of Marine Business News and as Event Director of the Australian International Boat Show for Informa — the new show whose inaugural edition is scheduled for 29 July to 1 August 2027 at ICC Sydney and on the water at Cockle Bay — and he is also chief operating officer of the Australian Business Events Association. Those parallel roles, and his earlier position as the Boating Industry Association's general manager for marketing, events and communication, mean the news service is run by a publisher who is himself an active participant in the industry he covers, a fact the site does not hide: his boat show role is declared in his bylines.
Contact and Availability
Marine Business News is published online at marinebusinessnews.com.au, where its daily news, events calendar and jobs board are freely available. Its newsroom can be contacted at newsroom@marinebusinessnews.com.au — the address the service itself publishes for story submissions — and the boot Düsseldorf media list also records a publisher contact address for Genua at d.genua@mirimar.com.au. The weekly newsletter is distributed by email each Friday.
