About Road Today

Road Today

Overview

Road Today is a Canadian trucking media brand based in Mississauga, Ontario, that serves the South Asian drivers, owner-operators and fleet owners who form a large part of the country's long-haul trucking workforce. It began in 2004 as the Road Today Media Group, founded by Manan Gupta, and built its name as a print magazine published in English, Hindi and Punjabi — a combination no mainstream Canadian trucking title offered. The website bills the operation, in its own words, as an "Award Winning Media House Serving Since 2004," a reference to the road-safety and community honours its founder has collected over two decades.

Today Road Today operates as a news website rather than a print magazine. When the site was checked in October 2026 it was publishing fresh trucking news in English, most recently on September 25, 2026, and it carries deep archives running through 2023, 2024 and 2025. No current print issue, cover, PDF or digital edition of the magazine is offered anywhere on the site, and readers should understand the title in its present form as an online news service for the trucking community, with its earlier print magazine, trade show and job fair forming the documented history set out below.

History

Road Today Media Group dates its service to Canada's transportation and supply chain industry to 2004, according to founder Manan Gupta's biography published by Ontario's Public Appointments Secretariat. Gupta, a Brampton-based publisher and community activist, built the brand around the Road Today magazine, which was published in English, Hindi and Punjabi for the South Asian trucking community, and around live events that connected that community with employers, regulators and safety officials.

The best-documented of those events was the Road Today Show & Job Fair, held at the Brampton Soccer Centre. Truck News reported on the fifth annual show in the mid-2010s, when nearly 7,000 visitors and about 100 exhibitors were reported over the weekend, with Ministry of Transportation enforcement staff answering drivers' compliance questions and Road Today Trucking Excellence Awards presented on site. The seventh annual show followed on May 23, 2015, the eighth annual in June 2016, and the ninth annual on May 27, 2017, when Ontario transportation minister Steven Del Duca received the Road Today Leadership Award 2017 for his work on measures including mandatory entry-level training for tractor-trailer drivers.

The magazine's standing rose further in 2018. On May 29, 2018, Newcom Media Inc. — publisher of Truck News, Today's Trucking and other leading Canadian trucking titles — announced the formation of Newcom South Asian Media Co., a 50/50 joint venture with Road Today Publishing Inc. The venture, based at Newcom's Toronto headquarters, relaunched the regional Road Today magazine as a national publication that fall, with Gupta named general manager effective July 1, 2018. Newcom president Joe Glionna said at the time that South Asian drivers and fleet owners were the fastest-growing demographic in Canadian trucking and that the partnership combined the Guptas' community roots with Newcom's publications and shows. The venture also created a series of recruitment and resource expos at Toronto's International Centre, the first held on September 15, 2018, offered translation and marketing support to trucking companies, and later worked with Asian Television Network on trucking television programming. In that era the magazine continued in English, Hindi and Punjabi; the current website, by contrast, presents its content in English only.

Content and Coverage

Road Today's website organizes its news into sections covering top stories, road safety, general news, the automotive world, laws and regulations, the economy, crime, and safety and compliance. The coverage is aimed at working drivers and small fleet operators rather than industry executives: practical questions of licensing, training, enforcement, border rules and operating costs dominate. Stories published in the autumn of 2026, for example, reported on Ontario's move to standardize truck-driver training (September 22, 2026) and on a Mississauga freight firm named among Canada's fastest-growing companies in The Globe and Mail's 2026 ranking (September 25, 2026), alongside August 2026 items on enforcement and equipment.

That editorial mix descends directly from the print magazine, whose pages combined regulatory and safety guidance with community news, careers content and coverage of the Road Today Show & Job Fair and its awards programs. Road safety has been a consistent thread since the beginning: Gupta chaired the Brampton Road Safety Committee and has been a visible advocate on driver training and compliance, themes that run through both the magazine's archive and the website's current road-safety section.

Audience and Reach

Road Today's audience is the South Asian segment of Canadian trucking — immigrant drivers from India and Pakistan, the owner-operators and mid-sized fleets many of them built, and the suppliers, driving schools, insurers and recruiters who serve them, concentrated in the Greater Toronto Area's Brampton–Mississauga corridor and in trucking communities across the country. Newcom Media's 2018 joint-venture announcement described South Asian drivers and fleet owners as the fastest-growing demographic in the industry; that characterization is Newcom's, offered when the partnership was announced, and is not drawn from an official statistical source.

No independently audited circulation or traffic figure for Road Today is published, and none is claimed here. The clearest dated measure of its reach is the reported attendance at its Brampton show — nearly 7,000 visitors across the weekend of the fifth annual event, as reported by Truck News from the organizers' account. Gupta's own official biography notes that he appears regularly as a media commentator on trucking and community issues on mainstream and ethnic media platforms, which has extended the brand's voice beyond its own pages.

Digital Presence

The Road Today website, roadtoday.com, is a WordPress-based news site carrying the current date and a steady flow of trucking headlines; when checked in October 2026 its newest story was dated September 25, 2026, and its archives showed regular publishing through 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. Alongside the news sections, the site has offered a "Road Today 24/7 Web Digital TV" service; the player for that service returned an error during the October 2026 check, so its present streaming status cannot be confirmed here, only that the offering exists on the site.

The digital operation is also where the brand's format has visibly changed. The trilingual print model that defined the magazine's first decade and a half is not carried into the current navigation, which is English-only, and no issue-based edition — print, PDF or flipbook — is presented. What survives online is the news function: trucking headlines, safety and regulatory coverage, and community stories filed from the Mississauga office, under a footer that reads "© 2026 ROAD TODAY."

Ownership and Organisation

Road Today is published by Road Today Publishing Inc., owned by brothers Vik Gupta and Manan Gupta, according to the Newcom Media announcement of May 29, 2018; Manan Gupta is the founder of the Road Today Media Group and the brand's public face as publisher and editor. The 2018 announcement documented the 50/50 Newcom South Asian Media Co. joint venture described above, with Gupta as its general manager. The current website does not restate the company's corporate or ownership details in its footer or about areas — the names above rest on the 2018 announcement and on Gupta's official Ontario biography, which describes him as "founder of Road Today Media Group proudly serving Canada's transportation and supply chain industry through events, digital, social, and electronic media platforms since 2004."

That biography also records the recognition the brand's safety advocacy has drawn, listing honours including the Ontario Ministry of Transportation Road Safety Media Excellence Award, a Peel Police Media Excellence award, a CN Rail safety award and a Queen's Diamond Jubilee Award among those received by Gupta — honours the site's "award winning" billing refers to, presented here as recorded in his official biography rather than independently re-verified.

Contact and Availability

Road Today's own footer gives its office address as 2677 Drew Road, Mississauga, ON L4T 3X1, with a fax number, 905 487 0349; notably, the site displays no voice telephone number. General enquiries go to contact@roadtoday.com, advertising queries to ads@roadtoday.com, and readers are invited to send press releases, photographs and announcements of industry events to news@roadtoday.com. The news site itself is free to read at roadtoday.com, and its archive reaches back through the brand's years as one of the principal media voices of South Asian trucking in Canada.
