About Rogers TV Ottawa

Rogers TV Ottawa

Overview

Rogers TV Ottawa is the English-language community cable channel serving Ottawa, Ontario, carried on channel 22 (and channel 510 in high definition) for subscribers of Rogers Cable in the capital. It is important to be plain about what it is: Rogers TV Ottawa is not a standalone broadcaster but one local channel within Rogers TV, a network of community channels owned by Rogers Communications in which each channel serves its own city. Sibling channels operate under the same brand and the same model in communities across Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador, each producing programming for its own market, while the French-language counterpart service, TV Rogers, serves francophone communities including Ottawa itself. The Ottawa channel's purpose is local reflection: community-produced and staff-produced programs about Ottawa people, politics, sport and culture, made with the help of volunteers and community partners, and available only in the community the Rogers cable system serves. Its schedule mixes access programming proposed by members of the public with programming produced in-house by Rogers staff, and in recent seasons that has ranged from Ottawa Titans professional baseball and a local history series made with the Historical Society of Ottawa to live coverage of the city's 2026 municipal election debates. The channel is not carried by other television providers; it is a service of the Rogers cable system in Ottawa.

History

Community channels have been part of Canadian cable since the late 1960s, and the Rogers TV service traces its own roots to 1968 in some of the areas it serves. For most of that history the channels operated under the name Rogers Television. The present network took shape in 2000, when Rogers and Shaw Communications swapped cable systems, consolidating Rogers' community channels across Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. In April 2008 the service was rebranded from Rogers Television to the simpler Rogers TV, with TV Rogers as the name for the French-language stations, and on 1 September 2016 Rogers TV was relaunched with a new logo and on-air presentation. The Ottawa channel built a reputation well beyond community television in the 1990s: comedian Tom Green started his career on the Rogers community channel in Ottawa, where The Tom Green Show was based between 1993 and 1999 before moving to national and international television. Sport gave the channel another pillar: Rogers Television 22 carried extensive Ottawa 67's Ontario Hockey League schedules in the 2000s, including the full 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons, and by 2007 Rogers Television was presenting 306 OHL games across its Ontario stations, the Ottawa 67's among the nine teams followed; in Ontario, Rogers Television's OHL coverage was provided in partnership with Cogeco's community channels. The network was reshaped in 2017, when new CRTC rules allowed cable companies that also own broadcast stations in a metropolitan market to redirect community-channel funding to local news; Rogers TV stations in the Greater Toronto Area closed. Ottawa's channel remained open through those 2017 cuts, with local staff reductions reported at the time, and it continues to operate today.

Programming and Content

The Ottawa channel's programming follows the Rogers TV model: each year the station reviews applications from the community for new shows, weighing production capability, community involvement and the uniqueness of the proposal, and the majority of programs are produced in the local region. Local sport remains a signature. In July 2025 the station partnered with the Ottawa Titans of the Frontier League and the HomeTeam Network to broadcast selected Titans home games, shown on Rogers TV channel 22 on tape delay, with station manager Gavin Lumsden describing the partnership as a way of making professional-quality local sports available in the market; French-language telecasts of selected games were carried on the TV Rogers side of the service. Local history has also found a home on the channel: Time Travelling with the Historical Society of Ottawa, a collaboration between Rogers TV and the Historical Society of Ottawa recorded at Beechwood Cemetery, began weekly broadcasts on channel 22 in April 2025, and a new season opened on 26 November 2025 with episodes running into January 2026 on topics from the Fenian threat and the Château Laurier to the history of Ottawa's Chinese community and its 2SLGBTQ+ community. Civic coverage is the third strand: Rogers TV carried the Liveable Ottawa mayoral debate in the October 2026 municipal election, streaming it and rebroadcasting it on cable 22. Magazine and daytime-style programming — the variety format daytime is produced in many Ontario Rogers TV markets — community events coverage and access shows produced by local groups round out the schedule, alongside the municipal and community affairs programming that community channels across the Rogers network traditionally carry.

Audience and Reach

Rogers TV Ottawa reaches viewers through the Rogers cable system in Ottawa on channel 22, with an HD feed on channel 510; it is not available on competing television providers or over the air. Across the whole network, Rogers TV reports serving more than 2.3 million cable subscribers in the regions where Rogers operates cable systems — a network figure published by the service, not an Ottawa audience measurement. No ratings are published for individual community channels, and Rogers does not release Ottawa-specific viewing numbers; the channel's value to its audience is measured in local relevance rather than scale. Some programming reaches beyond the cable audience: selected events are streamed live through rogerstv.com, as the October 2026 mayoral debate was, and some programs across the network are also made available through the Rogers On Demand service.

Digital Presence

The channel's online home is its Ottawa section of rogerstv.com, which publishes the channel's show pages and schedules, including the Ottawa shows listing used for this profile. Rogers TV uses the site and live streaming pages to extend selected programming beyond the cable feed — the 2026 Liveable Ottawa mayoral debate, for instance, was streamed at rogerstv.com in addition to its channel 22 broadcasts and rebroadcasts. Community partners amplify the channel's content on their own sites: the Historical Society of Ottawa publishes full episode schedules for its Time Travelling series and makes episodes accessible on its own website after their exclusive Rogers TV broadcast window, one example of how the channel's community productions circulate online after first airing.

Ownership and Organisation

Rogers TV Ottawa is owned and operated by Rogers Communications through its cable division, Rogers Cable. It is a licensee-produced community channel: programming is produced by Rogers staff in Ottawa together with volunteers, community associations and local partners who assist with production and content. The station operates under a local station manager — Gavin Lumsden held that role when the Ottawa Titans partnership was announced in 2025 — within the wider Rogers TV organisation, which administers the community channels in each of Rogers' cable markets under common branding, standards and presentation. The channel's French-language sister in the same city, TV Rogers Ottawa on channel 23, is administered within the same company as part of the five-station TV Rogers service.

Contact and Availability

Rogers TV Ottawa is available to Rogers Cable subscribers in Ottawa on channel 22 and in high definition on channel 510; it is not carried by other television service providers. Program schedules, show information and community program proposal information are published through the Ottawa section of rogerstv.com. The channel does not publish a general public business email address, and none is listed in this profile.
