About Travel Daily
Travel Daily
Overview
Travel Daily is an Australian travel industry news service published at traveldaily.com.au, built around a weekday newsletter that has been produced each weekday since 1994. It reports the news of the Australian travel trade for the people who work in it: travel agents and advisors, tour operators, wholesalers, airlines, cruise lines, hotels, tourism boards and industry suppliers. Each weekday edition packages the day's developments into a compact digital issue, distributed by email as a PDF-style publication and supported by a website carrying headlines, breaking news bulletins and an archive of past issues. Travel Daily is published by TDaily Pty Ltd and is part of the Business Publishing Group (BPG) family of publications, alongside Cruise Weekly, travelBulletin and Business Events News. It describes itself, in its own long-standing billing, as "Australia's leading travel industry publication" — a characterisation presented here as the publisher's own. Subscription is free to people working in the industry, via registration on its website, and the service is based at Macquarie Park in Sydney.
History
Travel Daily's own masthead records that it has been "produced each weekday since 1994", giving it more than three decades of continuous weekday publication by 2026 — a lifespan spanning the era of the faxed trade bulletin through to the modern email newsletter. For much of that history it was a paid product: the boilerplate carried in its issues in the early 2010s described the newsletter as "available by paid subscription to people within the travel industry", with a free 14-day trial offered to new readers. Its contact details in that period were a post office box at West Ryde in Sydney, with a single national phone number and a fax line. The publication subsequently moved to a free-subscription model, under which registered industry readers receive the weekday edition and website access without charge, a model it continues to operate.
For many years the title was led by publisher Bruce Piper, whose name was synonymous with the BPG portfolio: a 2020 Travel Daily opinion piece identified Piper as publisher of Travel Daily, travelBulletin, Cruise Weekly and Business Events News, and his "From the publisher" columns were a fixture of travelBulletin. By the middle of the decade the masthead had evolved. The June 2026 issue lists Matthew Vince as general manager and publisher, Damian Francis as editorial director, Adam Bishop as editor and Bruce Piper as editor-at-large, with a dedicated cruise editor, Myles Stedman, reflecting the weight of cruise coverage in the Australian market. Around the core newsletter, BPG built additional services: Travel Daily Events, launched in the pandemic period in partnership with Richard Taylor of the Travel Community Hub, offers webinar-style events for destinations and suppliers, and the group has run industry surveys, including its Industry Survival Survey tracking the sector's recovery from COVID-19.
Content and Coverage
A weekday Travel Daily edition is a compressed digest of everything that has moved in the Australian travel industry in the previous 24 hours. Its headline coverage spans airline route and capacity announcements, alliance and codeshare deals, carrier financial results and executive appointments; cruise line deployments, ship launches and itinerary changes, handled by its specialist cruise editor; hotel openings, refurbishments and management appointments; destination and tourism board campaigns; wholesaler and tour operator product news; travel agency group and franchise developments; and the regulatory and industry-body affairs of the sector, including the work of the Australian Travel Industry Association. Stories are written in a distinctive telegraphic house style — short, dense items, often cross-referencing earlier coverage by date — designed to be scanned quickly by busy agents before the trading day begins. Beyond the weekday edition, the website publishes breaking news bulletins as major stories develop, feature-length interviews and analysis, and a Saturday "Weekly Wrap" column, written in October 2026 by associate publisher Jo-Anne Hui-Miller, that reflects on the week's themes. The site also carries the full archive of daily issues, so any edition can be retrieved and read in its original form.
Audience and Reach
Travel Daily is written for a professional audience: the owners, managers and frontline sellers of Australian travel businesses, together with the airline, cruise, hotel and destination executives who sell through them. Its readers are the trade rather than the travelling public, and its commercial model is advertising and partnership with suppliers who want to reach that trade audience. The publisher does not release an independently audited circulation or subscriber figure for the title, and none is claimed here. Its own description of itself as Australia's leading travel industry publication is a publisher claim, attributed as such. The practical evidence of its position is longevity and integration: it has been produced every weekday for over 30 years, its stories are cited and responded to by industry bodies and major companies, and suppliers routinely use its pages and its events arm to launch products, campaigns and research to the trade.
Digital Presence
The service is digital-first. The weekday edition is compiled and distributed electronically, and traveldaily.com.au operates as the public face of the title, with headline stories, feature articles, video content and a searchable archive of newsletters stretching back over many years; individual daily issues are hosted in PDF form so subscribers can download the edition exactly as distributed. Registered readers receive the newsletter and breaking news bulletins by email, and free registration also unlocks subscriber-only articles on the website. Travel Daily maintains a presence on social and video platforms, embedding video in its headline pages, and its Saturday Weekly Wrap gives the brand a weekend presence beyond the weekday cycle. Its sister publications within Business Publishing Group — Cruise Weekly for cruise trade news, the monthly travelBulletin magazine and Business Events News for the meetings sector — share the group's digital infrastructure and cross-promote to overlapping trade audiences.
Ownership and Organisation
Travel Daily is a publication of TDaily Pty Ltd (ABN 34 108 508 765), and editorial responsibility for the title is taken by its editorial director, according to the fine print in its issues. It sits within the Business Publishing Group family of publications, the Sydney-based trade publishing group whose portfolio is devoted to the travel and tourism sector: Travel Daily itself, Cruise Weekly, travelBulletin and Business Events News. The masthead published in mid-2026 lists a compact team: general manager and publisher Matthew Vince; editorial director Damian Francis; editor Adam Bishop; editor-at-large Bruce Piper; cruise editor Myles Stedman; journalists Janie Medbury and James Bale; associate publisher Jo-Anne Hui-Miller; a social editor; and a sales and marketing team led by a head of sales and marketing with accounts and business development staff. The operation is headquartered at Macquarie Park, on Sydney's north-western side, and serves a national readership from that single office.
