About YourTV
YourTV
Overview
YourTV is the brand name for the network of local community television channels operated by Cogeco Connexion, the Canadian cable arm of Cogeco Communications Inc. The channels serve Cogeco cable communities across Ontario and Quebec, carrying programming produced by Cogeco staff together with community volunteers: local sports, municipal politics, community-access shows, local news in some markets and televised coverage of events that no national or regional broadcaster would cover. In Quebec, the French-language counterpart brand is NousTV. The brand's published headquarters locations are Burlington, Ontario and Trois-Rivières, Quebec; Burlington is also one of the communities the network serves, through the YourTV channel for Burlington and Oakville.
YourTV is an exclusive service for Cogeco television subscribers. Cogeco's own corporate descriptions place the channel in high definition on channel 700 and on channel 100 of its Epico television platform, with each community's schedule published through the local pages of yourtv.tv. Because community channels sit inside the cable bundle rather than on the open airwaves, their schedules are intensely local: a YourTV channel in one town carries that town's council debates, junior hockey team and community producers, a pattern repeated, with different content, in each Cogeco community.
History
Community channels have existed on Canadian cable systems since the CRTC first expected cable companies to set aside a channel for local and access programming, and Cogeco's systems carried locally produced community programming for decades before the service acquired a single name. The unified branding arrived in stages. From 2005 the channels were known as TVCogeco; in 2016 the name was shortened to CogecoTV. On 18 September 2017, Cogeco relaunched the service under its present identity: the company's announcement stated that its 19 community stations in Ontario would be called YourTV, while its 15 Quebec stations became NousTV. The new name, Cogeco said, was meant to embody its ties to its communities and the role of local organizations in producing the content. Johanne Hinse, Cogeco's vice-president of sales for the consumer market and community relations, described the stations as speaking "to our neighbours, to the mechanic at the local garage, the baker in the square, the local teacher," while marketing vice-president Daniel Boisvert tied the rebrand to Cogeco's "Switch on Amazing" corporate signature.
Individual local services under the brand can be much older than the brand itself. In North Bay, Cogeco's local news operation — now part of YourTV — was launched on Monday, 14 January 2002, when, according to Broadcast Dialogue's account of its twentieth anniversary in 2022, the first edition of Cogeco News aired at 6 p.m. Founded by Cogeco regional manager Brian Winkworth and hosted by Greg Estabrooks from its first day, the program had aired more than 5,200 episodes by its twentieth anniversary, a figure reported by the trade publication at the time. The Burlington and Oakville service, listed in the network's station directory on cable channel 23 and in HD on 700, similarly predates the YourTV name as the community channel of Cogeco's Halton-region system. One notable gap in the map is Hamilton: although Cogeco serves parts of that market, Hamilton's cable operators jointly run a single shared community channel, Cable 14, so there is no separate YourTV channel there.
Programming and Content
Sports is the flagship genre. In Ontario, YourTV provides extensive coverage of the Ontario Hockey League, broadcasting games in Peterborough, Sarnia, Windsor, North Bay, Kingston and Niagara, with most home and away games of those teams available only on cable on the local station; a wider package of OHL games is carried in partnership with Rogers TV. The arrangement remained in place for the 2025-26 season: the OHL's own broadcast guide lists YourTV among the league's television broadcasters, and in October 2026 YourTV carried live OHL action from Cornwall, where the Brampton Steelheads met the Ottawa 67's at the Ed Lumley Arena in the league's return to that city. In Quebec, Cogeco systems air Quebec Major Junior Hockey League games in partnership with Vidéotron.
Local news and politics form the second pillar. The North Bay service's weekday Cogeco News, described above, is the network's longest-running news operation. Across the Ontario footprint, the channels cover municipal government intensively, a commitment Cogeco formalized for the 2026 Ontario municipal elections: in an announcement dated 13 October 2026, the company set out a "yourVote 2026" lineup for the 26 October 2026 vote, including one-on-one candidate spotlights with mayoral candidates in all four Halton municipalities, moderated mayoral debates organized with community partners, and a live election-night special beginning at 8 p.m. as polls closed. Scott Acton, Cogeco's director of programming and community engagement, said the coverage reflected "yourTV and Cogeco's shared DNA, remaining close to our communities and empowering local voices."
Beyond hockey and politics, the channels carry community-access programming made with volunteers, coverage of local events and sports such as curling — Curling Ontario announced YourTV as the exclusive broadcaster of the Ontario Men's and Women's Curling Championships held in Cobourg in January 2025, under a three-year partnership covering the 2025, 2027 and 2028 events, with alternate broadcasts arranged for 2026 — and an electronic bulletin-board service carrying public-service announcements for local non-profit agencies.
Audience and Reach
YourTV's reach is defined by Cogeco's cable footprint rather than by ratings, which are not published for community channels. The network's Ontario stations serve Belleville, Cobourg, Kingston and Peterborough in the central region; Arnprior, Brockville, Cornwall, Pembroke, Renfrew and Smiths Falls in the east; Burlington/Oakville, Milton and the Niagara communities of Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Welland, Grimsby and Niagara-on-the-Lake in the Golden Horseshoe; Gravenhurst, Huntsville, North Bay and Parry Sound in the north; and Chatham-Kent, Sarnia and Windsor in the southwest. In Quebec, the station list includes Alma, Baie-Comeau, Drummondville, Magog, Matane, Montmagny, Rimouski, Sept-Îles, Shawinigan, Saint-Georges, Saint-Hyacinthe, Sainte-Adèle, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Thetford Mines and Trois-Rivières. Access is limited to Cogeco subscribers, on channel 700 in HD or Epico channel 100. For scale, Cogeco Communications has described its business units as providing broadband services to 1.6 million residential and business customers in Canada and the United States; that is a corporate-wide figure for the parent company, not a measure of YourTV's audience, and no separate audience measurement for the community channels is published.
Digital Presence
The service's online home is yourtv.tv, which publishes a schedule and program pages for each community the network serves — the Cornwall page, for example, is the address Cogeco promotes for that city's full local schedule. Cogeco also posts YourTV programming, including full sports broadcasts and community shows, through its local YouTube channels, where the videos direct viewers to become Cogeco subscribers to watch complete episodes. Programming is additionally available to digital cable subscribers through Cogeco's on-demand service. The yourVote 2026 announcement confirms that election content, including video and broadcast schedules for each community, is published through the website alongside the television broadcasts.
Ownership and Organisation
YourTV is operated by Cogeco Connexion, which groups the Canadian cable operations of Cogeco Communications Inc., a company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX: CCA) and, by its own description, the second-largest cable operator in Ontario and Quebec based on the number of Internet service customers served. Programming is produced locally: each station works with community volunteers and local organizations, overseen by programming and community-relations staff in the regions — the North Bay anniversary coverage, for example, quoted the station's programming and community relations manager — under a national director of programming and community engagement, the role held by Scott Acton in Cogeco's October 2026 election-coverage announcement.
Contact and Availability
YourTV is available exclusively to Cogeco television subscribers in the communities listed above, on HD channel 700 and Epico channel 100, with local schedules, program information and community pages published at yourtv.tv. The channel publishes no general public business email address, and none is listed here.
