Agenda Romaneasca (Romanian: Agenda Românească, "The Romanian Agenda") is a Romanian-language newspaper serving the Romanian community of Ontario, Canada. Its own masthead tagline describes it as Ziarul românilor din Ontario — "the newspaper of the Romanians of Ontario" — and it has been published since 2007. The paper appears in print and is posted in full, free of charge, as a PDF edition on its website, agendaromaneasca.com. The edition current at the time of research was issue No. 333, dated September 2026, following issue No. 332 in August 2026, a monthly rhythm in its recent run.
The newspaper is written almost entirely in Romanian and is aimed at the province's Romanian-speaking readership: immigrants from Romania and the Republic of Moldova, and their Canadian-born families. Its pages mix community reporting gathered from across Ontario with editorial comment, cultural material drawn from Romania, service information and advertising from Romanian-Canadian businesses. In a province where the 2021 census counted 86,435 residents of Romanian ancestry — the largest Romanian-origin population of any Canadian province — Agenda Romaneasca is one of a small number of Romanian-language periodicals produced in Canada, and one of the longest-running titles produced in Ontario.
Agenda Romaneasca was founded in 2007, a date the paper itself carries in its website title ("Fondat în 2007"). It was launched during the largest wave of Romanian immigration to Canada: figures from Citizenship and Immigration Canada show annual arrivals from Romania averaging more than 5,500 people a year after 2001 and peaking at 5,658 in 2004, building the readership that community newspapers in Romanian depend on. By the 2021 census, 215,885 Canadian residents declared Romanian origin and 93,160 reported Romanian as their mother tongue.
The paper's issue numbering documents its longevity and its changing frequency. Issue No. 217 is dated October 2016 and issue No. 223 is dated 26 January 2017, a pace of roughly two issues a month in that period; by 2026 the sequence had reached No. 333 (September 2026), with consecutive monthly issues in August and September of that year indicating a monthly schedule in its recent form. Across nearly two decades the title has therefore appeared continuously, if at varying frequency — a notable record for an independent ethnic-community paper, a sector in which most titles are short-lived.
The newspaper's published editorial address in its 2016–2017 issues was 809-40 McGee Avenue in Kitchener, Ontario, in the Waterloo Region, an area with an established Romanian population, although the paper defines its territory as the whole of Ontario rather than a single city. Its masthead in those issues named Radu Secăşan as director, with Alex Titeu as webmaster, Stelian George-Cosh as consultant and Simona Catrina — a well-known Romanian entertainment journalist associated with the Bucharest magazine Tango — contributing the entertainment pages. The paper stated in its colophon that the articles in each issue were "gathered from the province of Ontario and edited by the editorial team," and credited Romania's Tango magazine and Montreal's Accent Montreal among its information sources.
Agenda Romaneasca is a general-interest community newspaper. Its editorial matter, as documented in its published issues, spans several recurring strands. There is, first, commentary and reflection on Romanian and Canadian public life: the January 2017 issue, for example, carried an extended editorial essay on the erosion of trust in politicians in Romania, Canada and the United States, alongside a "Canadian Reflections" column by Simona Catrina. Second, there is practical and social material aimed at settled immigrants — advice columns on family and legal matters, including pieces on jealousy, divorce and everyday disputes, written in an accessible, conversational register.
Third, the paper gives substantial space to culture and entertainment, drawing on its relationship with Romania's Tango magazine for celebrity and lifestyle content. Fourth, it functions as a community noticeboard: its pages carry announcements of Romanian cultural events in Ontario, church and association news, and a large volume of advertising and classified notices (Mică Publicitate) from Romanian-speaking tradespeople, shops, restaurants, car services and professionals across the Kitchener–Waterloo, Hamilton, Toronto and London areas. That advertising base — businesses such as Romanian food stores, auto repair shops and water-treatment dealers advertising in Romanian — is itself a map of the community the paper serves, and the editorial colophon states plainly that the paper is not responsible for the content of the advertisements and classifieds it carries, with copyright in published articles remaining with their authors.
News and features are gathered from across Ontario rather than from one city, which distinguishes Agenda Romaneasca from purely local bulletins: its stated ambition, reflected in its tagline, is to be a provincial paper for Romanians in Ontario.
No audited circulation or readership figures for Agenda Romaneasca are published, and none are claimed here. Its potential audience can be described from census data. According to the 2021 census, 215,885 people in Canada declared Romanian ethnic or cultural origin, 86,770 were born in Romania, and 93,160 reported Romanian as a mother tongue. Ontario, with 86,435 residents of Romanian ancestry, is the community's largest provincial concentration, ahead of Quebec (46,765); the Montreal metropolitan area counts about 41,540 residents of Romanian ancestry and the Toronto area about 39,635.
Distribution of the print edition follows the classic ethnic-press pattern of copies placed where the community gathers — Romanian churches, cultural associations, shops and restaurants in Ontario's Romanian neighbourhoods — while the complete PDF edition posted on the paper's website makes every issue available free to readers anywhere, including the Romanian diaspora beyond Canada. The paper's longevity — 333 issues by September 2026 — is the clearest available evidence of a sustained, if unmeasured, readership.
The newspaper's website, agendaromaneasca.com, is built on WordPress and serves principally as the paper's online edition archive: each new issue is posted as a cover image linking to the full issue in PDF format, readable and downloadable without charge or registration. The archive of uploaded issues reaches back at least to October 2016 (issue No. 217), giving the site a decade-deep public record of the print paper. The current-issue presentation is simple and functional — the September 2026 issue (No. 333) was displayed on the homepage at the time of research, directly beneath the paper's "founded in 2007" title line.
The website is therefore best understood as a digital extension of the print product rather than a separate news portal: it does not run a continuously updated article feed, but guarantees that the complete newspaper — editorial, columns, community notices and advertising — reaches readers who no longer pick up a printed copy.
Agenda Romaneasca is an independent community publication. Its published mastheads name a small editorial team rather than a corporate publisher: in the issues examined from 2016–2017 the director was Radu Secăşan, the webmaster Alex Titeu, the consultant Stelian George-Cosh, and the entertainment desk was credited to Simona Catrina of the Romanian magazine Tango, whose material the paper used as a source alongside Accent Montreal. The colophon in those issues described the paper's working method — articles gathered from across the province of Ontario and edited by the editorial team — and set out the standard terms of ethnic-community publishing: contributions sent to the editorial office are published within the available space, published opinions do not necessarily reflect the editorial line, and copyright remains with the individual authors. No parent company, media group or external owner for the title is documented in any checkable source.
Agenda Romaneasca can be reached through its website, agendaromaneasca.com, where the current and back issues are posted in PDF form. The editorial email address published in the paper's masthead is redactia@agendaromaneasca.com, and the editorial address printed in its 2016–2017 issues was 809-40 McGee Avenue, Kitchener, Ontario, N2B 2T3, with telephone numbers 519-594-1712 and 416-800-0832 listed in the same issues. The print edition circulates within Ontario's Romanian community; the online PDF edition is available worldwide, free of charge.
