About Global Coffee Report

Global Coffee Report

Overview

Global Coffee Report (GCR) is a business-to-business magazine for the world coffee industry, published from Melbourne, Australia, by Prime Creative Media. Unusually for an Australian trade title, its subject is the entire global coffee business: it reports on producing countries and roasters, café chains and equipment manufacturers, commodity markets and sustainability programs, from Brazil and Vietnam to the United States and Europe. The magazine appears in print every two months, supported by a website publishing news daily, and it is closely associated with the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE), the Southern Hemisphere's major coffee trade show, which is also produced by its publisher.

GCR's stated aim, in its publisher's own words, is "promoting, growing and informing the global coffee industry through the provision of the most relevant and current information and in-depth analysis from the sector's most influential voices". Its readers are the people who buy, roast, sell and serve coffee commercially — roasters, café and chain operators, green coffee traders, equipment suppliers and industry executives — and its editorial mix of news, market reporting, executive interviews and origin features is built for that professional audience rather than for consumers.

History

Prime Creative Media launched the title in April 2011, a founding date the publisher states on the magazine's own website. In its early years it published as Global Coffee Review: an announcement carried in the title's own archive, formalising a media partnership with World Coffee Research in the early 2010s, names Christine Grimard as editor and describes the publication — then styling itself GCR — as distributed to over 100 countries, engaging industry leaders through its website, e-newsletter and print editions; the partnership was to carry the research program's findings to the coffee community, with a special subscription offer extended to the program's members. The title subsequently adopted the Global Coffee Report name, under which it has continued since.

Through the 2010s and into the 2020s the magazine settled into a bi-monthly print rhythm alongside its digital publishing, covering an industry that has expanded rapidly in both specialty and commercial segments. Its events role grew with its publisher's: the GCR Leaders Symposium, a leadership event held alongside the Melbourne International Coffee Expo, was staged again in March 2026, and the magazine's journalists travel to international trade shows and origin countries as part of its coverage. In 2025 and 2026 the title published bi-monthly editions on schedule — its January/February 2026 and March/April 2026 editions are documented on its website, where print features are republished — while its news operation expanded to multiple stories a day on the global industry.

Programming and Content

The website organises coverage into Latest News, Features, Business Leaders, Profiles, Equipment, Research, Technology, Events, Market Reports, Sustainability and Origin reporting. News coverage is genuinely global and daily: on a single run of October 2026 publishing days the site carried stories on the International Coffee Organization's new market intelligence platform and its September price report, Nestlé and Starbucks corporate moves, a Ugandan government response to market volatility, coffee production planning in Madagascar and a United Nations Development Programme warning about El Niño's threat to West African crops. Market Reports track coffee prices and consumption data, including ICO reporting and national consumption studies.

Feature journalism looks at the industry's direction — regenerative agriculture at Lavazza, functional coffee as a growth category, automation in espresso equipment, and regional reports in its Regions on the Rise series, which in 2026 visited Fiji and Uganda. The Business Leaders strand interviews the executives running the industry: 2026 instalments have included the chief executives of Scooter's Coffee, Mother Parkers and Pact Coffee, and the chairman of illycaffè on the themes he expects to shape the year. The print editions carry the title's flagship material: the January/February 2026 edition opened with 2026 predictions from the International Coffee Organization's executive director, Vanúsia Nogueira, and the March/April 2026 edition profiled the effort to build a premium coffee industry in California around Frinj Coffee. Equipment and technology coverage follows the machinery of the trade, from grinder and espresso machine launches to connected-machine platforms, while the print magazine republishes much of this material alongside longer analysis written for the bi-monthly editions.

Audience and Reach

Global Coffee Report addresses a worldwide professional readership across the coffee supply chain — growers and exporters, traders, roasters, café owners and chains, equipment manufacturers and distributors. No independently audited circulation or readership figure is published for the title, and none is claimed here. The clearest documented statement of its ambitions is historical: in its early-2010s partnership announcement with World Coffee Research, the publication described itself as distributed to over 100 countries around the world, a claim made by the title at that time. Its present-day scale is better evidenced by its operation — a daily global news service with several hundred pages of archived articles, a bi-monthly print edition, and a leadership event attached to one of the world's significant coffee expos — than by any published audience number.

Digital Presence

The magazine's website, gcrmag.com, functions as a daily international coffee news wire, publishing multiple stories a day; its archive ran to hundreds of pages of articles by late 2026, with new items dated through mid-October 2026, including market reports, company news and features first written for the print editions. Named staff bylines appear across the site — journalist Daniel Woods and writer Meg Kennedy were bylined on its news through 2026, and Ruby Parkinson contributed research coverage. The site offers a newsletter subscription, magazine subscription and advertising information, and it covers the title's events, including the GCR Leaders Symposium and its Trip to Origin program run with the Melbourne International Coffee Expo, whose next edition is scheduled for 4 to 6 March 2027 in Melbourne; its October 2026 coverage of the expo included the return of the Roasters Playground feature with La Marzocco as platinum sponsor. The title also maintains social channels under its publisher's portfolio.

Ownership and Organisation

Global Coffee Report is owned and published by Prime Creative Media, the Melbourne-based business media group headquartered in Docklands, which launched the title in April 2011 and has published it continuously since; the site's content carries the company's copyright. Editorially, the magazine sits within the publisher's coffee portfolio alongside BeanScene, its sister title for the Australian café industry, and the Melbourne International Coffee Expo. Sarah Baker is the editor of both BeanScene and Global Coffee Report and leads Prime Creative Media's editorial team as group managing editor, a role described in her speaker biography for the international Let's Talk Coffee event, which credits her with more than a decade of editorial experience in business media and recognition as one of the coffee industry's most recognised journalists. The magazine's editorial operation is based in Melbourne, while its reporting, contributors and subject matter are global.

Contact and Availability

Global Coffee Report is published in print every two months and subscriptions are available through the magazine's website, gcrmag.com, which also provides newsletter sign-up, advertising information, back-issue and latest-magazine access, and contact channels for the editorial team. Print features are republished on the website after each edition. The magazine's offices are with its publisher, Prime Creative Media, in Melbourne, Victoria; the title does not publish a separate street address or public editorial email address on its website.
