About Super Review
Super Review
Overview
Super Review is an Australian trade publication serving the superannuation industry: the executives, trustees and staff of super funds, and the fund managers, insurers, administrators and consultants who work with them. Published by Prime Creative Media, it operates today principally as a daily digital news service at superreview.com.au, supplemented by an annual Guide to Superannuation and the Super Fund of the Year Awards. It is the superannuation specialist within a family of wealth-management titles that includes its long-standing sister publication Money Management, alongside InvestorDaily, ifa and SMSF Adviser. Its reporting concentrates on the business of super: fund mergers and growth strategies, investment performance, insurance inside super, regulation by APRA and ASIC, government policy such as the Payday Super reforms, and the retirement income debate. Together with Money Management, it has been described by its former owner Momentum Media as one of Australia's longest-standing media brands for the financial services industry.
History
Super Review's origins lie in the upheavals of the 1980s, when award superannuation and then the Superannuation Guarantee transformed retirement savings from an executive perk into a mass industry that needed a trade press of its own. Momentum Media's account of the brands, published when it acquired them in 2022, says Money Management and Super Review were established in 1988, were "born out of the 1987 market crash" and were originally part of the Fairfax stable of publications. Super Review's own archive broadly supports a start in that era, though not to the exact year: an editorial published in August 2002, launching the title's Quiet Achiever Awards, referred to "over its 16 years of existence" the magazine had documented the industry's development, a count that points to the mid-1980s. For much of its life Super Review appeared as a print magazine, distinguished by reported features and its signature roundtables, in which fund chief executives, insurers, actuaries and policy experts debated the issues of the day under the chairmanship of its long-serving managing editor Mike Taylor, whose name appears as editor on its editorials from at least 2004 and as managing editor on roundtables for more than a decade afterwards.
The title's ownership changed several times as financial publishing consolidated. UK-based investment data group FE, later FE fundinfo, acquired Money Management and Super Review, announcing plans to enrich the reader experience with its fund research and tools; FE's data powered Money Management's Investment Centre. In 2022, Momentum Markets acquired both titles, with their events, websites and other assets, from FE fundinfo, making them part of Momentum Media's financial services portfolio while retaining FE fundinfo as preferred supplier of fund information. Three years later the brands changed hands again: in October 2025, Momentum Media sold its seven B2B wealth titles — Money Management, InvestorDaily, ifa, SMSF Adviser, Fintech Business, Adviser Innovation and Super Review, with their awards, conferences and events — to Prime Creative Media. Sixteen staff across sales, events and editorial moved with the titles, according to Prime Creative Media chairman John Murphy.
Programming and Content
Super Review publishes superannuation news daily. Its October 2026 coverage ranged across the sector: analysis of the first three months of Payday Super, the reform requiring employers to pay contributions on payday, drawing on ASFA research showing monthly payment volumes had more than doubled; AMP's September-quarter superannuation flows; fund performance estimates from SuperRatings as equity markets retreated; Australia's climb up global retirement rankings; and research for National Carers Week on public support for superannuation top-ups for unpaid carers. Fund-level news — mergers such as HESTA's completion of its merger with Mercy Super, executive appointments at funds such as Equip Super, and regulatory action by APRA — is a staple, as are features and analysis drawing on industry data. The roundtable tradition survives in the title's archive of moderated discussions on topics from group insurance and TPD claims to fund mergers and Stronger Super data standards. Each year the title publishes Super Review's Guide to Superannuation, a substantial annual edition of analysis and fund commentary; the 2025 guide was published in March 2025. Its best-known franchise is the Super Fund of the Year Awards, which date back many years — in earlier iterations run with research partner the Heron Partnership — and which in 2026 are presented in partnership with Acenda and SuperRatings.
Audience and Reach
Super Review is written for professionals who run, govern and service superannuation funds: fund chief executives and trustees, investment and insurance staff, and the asset managers, custodians, administrators, lawyers and consultants who supply the industry. It is a business-to-business title rather than a consumer publication; its readers encounter it through their work, through its website and newsletters, and at its events. No audited circulation or readership figure for the title is published by its owner, and none is claimed here. The standing of the brand within the industry is better evidenced by the participation of that industry in its programs: the Super Fund of the Year Awards draw entries from the country's largest funds, with the 2026 finalist lists spanning AustralianSuper, Australian Retirement Trust, Aware Super, Hostplus, UniSuper, Rest, Mercer and Colonial First State among many others, and its news pages are a routine venue for comment from fund chief executives, regulators' data and research houses such as SuperRatings.
Digital Presence
The title's digital home is superreview.com.au, which publishes news through the week and carries an archive reaching back to the print era, including editorials and roundtables from the early 2000s. Daily stories are illustrated and categorised by topic, and the site hosts the Super Review's Guide to Superannuation as an online edition. The brand's events presence is prominent: finalists for the 2026 Super Fund of the Year Awards were revealed on the site in October 2026 with imagery supplied by Prime Creative Media, ahead of a black-tie gala scheduled for 12 November 2026 at Evoqe Events in Melbourne. The 2025 awards were likewise held in Melbourne, on 26 November. Social distribution runs through the title's professional social channels, and its content sits alongside that of its sister wealth titles within Prime Creative Media's portfolio of sites. No regular print edition is currently promoted on the website; the title's present-day publishing is led by the digital news service, the annual guide and the awards program.
Ownership and Organisation
Super Review is owned by Prime Creative Media, which acquired it from Momentum Media in October 2025 as part of the seven-title wealth portfolio. Prime Creative Media, headquartered at 379 Docklands Drive in Docklands, Melbourne, is one of Australia's largest B2B publishers, with titles across transport, manufacturing, construction, mining, agriculture, food and hospitality and, following this acquisition, wealth management; its chief executive is Christine Clancy and its chairman John Murphy. The editor of Super Review is Laura Dew, according to her author biography on the title's website, which notes that before joining she spent five years at Investment Week in the United Kingdom covering asset and wealth management; she edits the title alongside sister publications in the wealth group, including Money Management and InvestorDaily. The awards business is led within the group by Caitlyn Douglas, Prime Creative Media's head of awards and conferences, who fronted the announcement of the 2026 Super Fund of the Year finalists. In an earlier era the title's editorial identity was shaped for many years by managing editor Mike Taylor, whose roundtables and editorials defined its print years.
