About 24h (24H News)
24h (24H News)
Overview
24h, at 24h.com.vn, is one of Vietnam's largest and longest-running online-only news sites, a general news portal published from Hanoi that has served Vietnamese readers since 2004. Its name states its promise: news around the clock, updated continuously through the day and night, covering domestic and international affairs, sport, entertainment, business, technology, health and lifestyle. For millions of Vietnamese readers, 24h is a daily habit, a first port of call for breaking news and, above all, for sport, where its football coverage has made it a destination for male readers in particular. Third-party measurement cited in the inventory recorded around 36.3 million visits in September 2026, placing it tenth among Vietnamese websites, a scale that puts it firmly in the country's top tier of online news.
24h belongs to Vietnam's first generation of internet-native publishers. It was not a newspaper that moved online, but a website built from scratch in the early days of Vietnamese broadband, and its editorial character still reflects that origin: fast, high-volume, visually led, and organised around what readers are searching for and sharing right now. It is operated by 24H Online Advertising Joint Stock Company, and it anchors a small digital group that has included the women's portal Eva.vn and the finance site 24hmoney.vn. In a Vietnamese media market where state-owned newspapers and television still matter, 24h represents the commercial, popular, internet-first alternative, and its two decades of operation make it one of the most durable names in that space.
History
24h grew out of a career change by its founder, Phan Minh Tam, a graduate of Hanoi University of Science and Technology. After leading sales at FPT, then Vietnam's largest technology corporation, and working in the chemicals and non-ferrous metals sectors, Tam returned to technology as ADSL broadband arrived in Vietnam, this time through online content. On 1 June 2004, 24H Online Advertising Joint Stock Company was registered, and Tam started the project with his university classmate Nguyen Thanh Long, a programmer willing to take the risk. The first office was a room of twenty square metres at 27 Chua Lang Lane, in poor condition and with almost no infrastructure. On 25 June 2004, 24h.com.vn officially went online.
The early years were a story of steady, improvised growth. From 2005 to 2012 the editorial office was located in the HITTC building of the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications at 185 Giang Vo Street, and in 2012 the company moved to the Geleximco building at 36 Hoang Cau Street. As traffic grew, 24h faced inspections from the authorities and criticism from other media over the reuse of material and questions of verification, while competing with portals such as VnExpress and Tuoi Tre. Those tensions were characteristic of Vietnam's early online news market, where the race for traffic sometimes outran editorial standards, and where regulators, established newspapers and new portals negotiated the rules of a new medium in public.
The company later built a wider digital ecosystem. Eva.vn, the women's portal under 24H Online Advertising, was launched in 2006 and became a leading site for Vietnamese women readers, covering fashion, family, health and relationships. In 2013 Tam acquired the job-search site timviecnhanh.com and combined job-search websites into Sieu Viet. Further investments followed, including 30Shine in 2016 and Pega in 2017, later consolidated under STI, or Simple Tech Investment. In July 2019 the group launched 24hmoney.vn, a finance-focused site. The site's current operating licence was issued in 2018. Through all of this, 24h.com.vn itself remained the flagship: a general news site whose identity has changed less than its corporate surroundings, and which continues to publish at high volume in 2026.
Programming and Content
24h publishes across the full range of general news, but its centre of gravity is clear. Domestic Vietnamese news leads the site: politics and policy, social issues, accidents, crime and court cases, and the everyday events that dominate Vietnamese public conversation. International news is covered through translated and summarised reporting on major world events, selected for relevance to Vietnamese readers. Business, technology, health, education and lifestyle sections round out the general offer, giving readers a single destination for the day's news in all its forms.
Sport is 24h's signature strength. Company materials describe the site as the number one sports news address among male readers in Vietnam, built on football coverage in particular: domestic V-League reporting, European football, international tournaments, and exclusive football highlights. That sporting identity shapes the site's audience and its advertising, and it differentiates 24h from general news rivals whose strengths lie elsewhere. Entertainment coverage is the other major pillar, with celebrity news, music, film and television, and the viral stories that circulate on Vietnamese social media. Together, sport and entertainment give 24h a loyal, returning audience that visits daily rather than only when major news breaks.
Volume is part of the model. Company-linked accounts describe 24h.com.vn as publishing about 250 articles a day and recording more than one billion monthly views, figures presented here as the company's own claims rather than audited measurements. The editorial style matches that volume: articles are typically short, headline-driven and image-led, written for quick reading on mobile phones, with photo galleries and video clips carrying much of the storytelling. Longer analysis and investigation appear, but they are not the site's defining form. 24h's value to readers lies in speed, breadth and constant refreshment: there is always something new on the homepage, and the homepage always reflects what is being talked about in Vietnam at that moment.
Audience and Reach
24h's audience is mass-market and nationwide, with a tilt towards male readers driven by its sports coverage and towards younger and middle-aged readers who consume news on phones. Its September 2026 traffic of around 36.3 million visits, measured by Semrush and cited in the inventory, with a rank of tenth among Vietnamese websites, makes it one of the most visited news destinations in the country. That figure is a third-party estimate, not an audited circulation number, but its order of magnitude is consistent with 24h's long-standing position near the top of Vietnamese news traffic.
The site's reach extends beyond its own pages. 24h stories circulate widely on Vietnamese social media, and its headlines are a familiar presence in search results and social feeds. Its sister site Eva.vn extends the group's reach to women readers, and its mobile application, 24H News, has at various times ranked among the top trending news applications on Google Play in Vietnam, aggregating content from dozens of leading Vietnamese electronic newspapers alongside 24h's own output. That application strategy, presenting 24h as a news aggregator as well as a publisher, has helped it hold readers who might otherwise scatter across many smaller sites.
For advertisers, 24h's audience is attractive precisely because of its scale and its sports-led male demographic, which is harder to reach through women's and lifestyle portals. For researchers and journalists tracking Vietnamese public opinion, 24h's homepage is a useful indicator of what the country's online majority is reading and reacting to. Its editorial choices, from the prominence given to a football story to the framing of a social controversy, reflect the tastes of a large, popular Vietnamese audience rather than an elite one.
Digital Presence
24h's digital presence is built around its website, 24h.com.vn, which is updated continuously and designed for mobile-first reading. The site's sections cover news, sport, entertainment, business, technology, health, education and lifestyle, and its homepage is organised as a constantly refreshed stream of headlines, photographs and videos. Search and social distribution are central to its model: many readers arrive through Google searches and Facebook links rather than by typing the address directly, and the site's headlines and images are crafted to perform in those channels.
The 24H News mobile application extends the website to phones and tablets, offering continuous hot-news updates and, at times, aggregation of content from more than sixty leading Vietnamese electronic newspapers. That aggregator function is a distinctive part of 24h's digital strategy: rather than asking readers to visit many sites, the application brings many sites' headlines together, with 24h's own content at the centre. The group's other digital properties, Eva.vn for women readers and 24hmoney.vn for finance, give it specialist channels alongside the general portal, and its social media pages support distribution and audience engagement. 24h has no print edition and no broadcast channel; its digital presence is its entire publishing operation, and it has been so since its launch in 2004.
Ownership and Organisation
24h is operated by 24H Online Advertising Joint Stock Company, the company registered on 1 June 2004 by founder Phan Minh Tam and his classmate Nguyen Thanh Long. Tam's background at FPT and in the chemicals and metals sectors, and Long's programming expertise, shaped a company that has always combined editorial ambition with technology and commerce. Over two decades the company has expanded into related digital businesses, including the Eva.vn women's portal, the Sieu Viet job-search group built around timviecnhanh.com, investments in 30Shine and Pega consolidated under STI, and the 24hmoney.vn finance site launched in 2019. 24h.com.vn remains the group's flagship brand and its largest audience asset.
No current editor-in-chief for 24h is named in this profile, because no reliably sourced current holder of that role has been found. The site operates as a high-volume online newsroom, with section editors and a large team of reporters and editors producing its daily output under Vietnam's press licensing system. Its early history of regulatory inspections and disputes with rival media over material reuse is a reminder of the pressures that shaped Vietnamese online journalism: the demand for speed and volume, the competition for traffic, and the oversight of a licensing regime that requires online newspapers to operate within defined rules. 24h's survival and continued scale through those pressures, from a twenty-square-metre room in 2004 to a top-ten Vietnamese website in 2026, is the central fact of its organisational story.
Contact and Availability
24h is freely available online at 24h.com.vn to anyone with internet access, in Vietnamese, with no subscription or payment required for its general news content. Its 24H News application is available for mobile devices, and its sister sites Eva.vn and 24hmoney.vn extend its coverage to women's and finance audiences. The site is published in Vietnamese and is aimed at Vietnamese readers; international readers without Vietnamese will need machine translation to follow it, and there is no English-language edition.
For Vietnamese readers, 24h is one of the most accessible daily news sources in the country, available around the clock from any phone. For anyone tracking Vietnam, whether for business, research or journalism, it is an essential source for understanding what the country's online public is actually reading: the stories it leads with, the sports results it celebrates, and the entertainment news it amplifies together form a picture of Vietnamese popular attention that no official source can provide. Its continued operation at scale in 2026, more than twenty years after it went online from a small room in Hanoi, makes it one of the enduring institutions of Vietnamese internet culture.
