About Accountants Daily

Accountants Daily

Overview

Accountants Daily is an Australian online news service for the accounting profession, published by Momentum Media at accountantsdaily.com.au. Launched in early 2014, it provides accountants in practice — from sole practitioners and boutique firms to the mid-tier and Big Four — with daily news, analysis, technical updates and opinion covering tax, superannuation, audit, practice management, technology and the regulation of the profession. It is the flagship title of Momentum Media's accounting portfolio, which also includes the newer Accounting Times, and it anchors a wider program of professional franchises: the Australian Accounting Awards, running since 2014; the Accountants Daily 30 Under 30 Awards for emerging practitioners; a podcast network; webcasts; and industry events. The site operates a registration model under which readers create a free account and receive a monthly allowance of articles. Its managing editor is Jerome Doraisamy. Accountants Daily remained a Momentum Media title after its parent's October 2025 sale of its wealth-management portfolio to Prime Creative Media — the transferred titles were Money Management, InvestorDaily, IFA, SMSF Adviser, Fintech Business, Adviser Innovation and Super Review, and Accountants Daily was not among them, as its own 2026 reporting, which continues to describe Momentum Media as its parent company, confirms.

History

Accountants Daily was launched for the industry in early 2014, as the LinkedIn profile maintained for the brand records, within the Sydney publishing group that now trades as Momentum Media. Momentum had been established in 2005 as a communications and media relations business focused on the mortgage and finance sectors, and created Sterling Publishing to launch its media assets; the publishing arm later adopted the Momentum Media name across the group. The accounting title was conceived as a digital-first news service for practitioners, and its awards program began in the same year as the publication itself: the Australian Accounting Awards were launched in 2014 and have been presented annually since, growing into a black-tie gala that by its tenth edition, held at The Star in Sydney on 30 June 2023, drew more than 520 members of the profession and named 36 winners from 285 finalists. In 2019 Accountants Daily launched what it described as an industry-first 30 Under 30 Awards, with MYOB as principal partner, to recognise accountants under thirty across audit, tax, consulting, management and other categories. Through the 2020s the brand expanded its broadcast and events output — a dedicated podcast network, webcasts, and new event properties — while the daily news service remained its core. Miranda Brownlee was editor of Accountants Daily in 2024; by 2026 Jerome Doraisamy was its managing editor, fronting new initiatives such as the Women in Accounting Awards developed with Accounting Times.

Content and Coverage

Accountants Daily's newsroom covers the working world of Australian accountants. Tax reporting follows the Australian Taxation Office, the Tax Practitioners Board, Treasury consultations and the courts, from trust-tax reform costings by CPA Australia to changes in Division 296 and professional standards. Superannuation and SMSF coverage tracks funds, auditors and regulators; practice coverage deals with fees, staffing, succession, mergers and the business of running a firm; and technology reporting follows the software platforms and automation reshaping compliance work. Professional affairs — the programs of CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and the Institute of Public Accountants, education and registration standards, and disciplinary matters — are a staple. The title mixes breaking news with analysis, opinion from practitioners and partner content, and its stated audience extends beyond accountants themselves to the 2.1 million Australian SMEs the profession advises, a figure the brand uses in its own description of its role. Beyond the written word, the Accountants Daily Podcast Network bundles programs including Accountants Daily Insider and an Australian Accounting Awards finalist showcase, and the site runs webcasts on technical and professional topics, such as gender equity in the accounting industry. Registration is free; unregistered readers meet a monthly article limit.

Audience and Reach

Accountants Daily's audience is Australia's accounting profession and the ecosystem around it: partners and staff of public practices, bookkeepers, tax agents, SMSF specialists, auditors and CFOs, together with the professional bodies, software vendors, financiers and recruiters who market to them. Its LinkedIn company profile describes a content team "trusted at all levels — from the Australian Tax Office and Federal regulators to practitioners at firms, large and small", which is the company's own characterisation. No independently audited audience figure for the title is published, and none is claimed here; the brand points instead to the scale of its franchises as evidence of reach — the Australian Accounting Awards' tenth edition in 2023 attracted over 520 attendees and 285 finalists, and Momentum Media's Commercial Finance Awards, run with Accountants Daily among the group's finance brands, recorded a record 249 submissions in 2026. The group as a whole claims a reach spanning well over a million professionals, business owners and investors across its portfolio; that is Momentum Media's own group-level claim, not a measurement of this title. In October 2026 Accountants Daily was publishing daily, with its news, podcast and awards activity in full operation.

Digital Presence

Accountants Daily is a digital-only publication. Its website, accountantsdaily.com.au, publishes news throughout the day across tax, superannuation, business and profession sections, with newsletters, webcasts, podcasts and awards and events microsites attached. Readers register for a free account; the site meters unregistered reading with a monthly free-article allowance and invites readers to log in for unlimited articles. The Accountants Daily Podcast Network distributes its programs through the site and the major podcast platforms, and the brand maintains an active presence on LinkedIn and X (as @AcctsDaily), where its stories and awards announcements are promoted to the profession. Its events are run with Captivate Events as producer for the Australian Accounting Awards, and award programs have their own entry and judging platforms linked from the site. The 2026 program illustrates the model's breadth: the Australian Accounting Awards were held in 2026 and will return in 2027, finalists for the new Women in Accounting Awards were scheduled for announcement on 18 November 2026, and the Finance360 diversification event was launched with Accountants Daily as one of the host brands.

Ownership and Organisation

Accountants Daily is owned by Momentum Media Group Pty Ltd, part of the Momentum Media group founded in 2005 by the directors who still lead it, Alex Whitlock and Phillip Tarrant. The group is headquartered at Level 13, 132 Arthur Street, North Sydney, New South Wales — within Sydney's metropolitan area, and this profile lists the title under Sydney accordingly. Momentum Media's portfolio spans professional and consumer verticals including The Adviser and Broker Daily in mortgage broking, Real Estate Business and Smart Property Investment in property, Lawyers Weekly in law, Australian Aviation and Defence Connect, and Space Connect. In October 2025 Momentum sold its seven B2B wealth-management titles and their events to Prime Creative Media; Accountants Daily was not part of that transaction and continues under Momentum ownership, as the title's own October 2026 articles — describing Momentum Media as its parent company and partner in its awards programs — demonstrate. Editorially the title is led by managing editor Jerome Doraisamy; Miranda Brownlee served as editor earlier in the decade. Its sister title Accounting Times, also a Momentum brand, shares events billing with Accountants Daily, including the Women in Accounting Awards.
