About Baden FM
Baden FM
Baden FM is the local radio station for Südbaden, broadcasting from Freiburg im Breisgau with a pop-and-rock mix of 1980s, 1990s and 2000s titles plus current hits for 30-to-59-year-olds. On air since 1989 — first as Radio FR1, then Antenne Südbaden, since 2008 as baden.fm — the station has built its reputation on local journalism for the Freiburg region, live coverage of every SC Freiburg match with 30-year reporter Frank Rischmüller, and news bulletins every full and half hour. A production of baden.audio gmbh, the station changed hands in August 2026 to the CN Medienholding GmbH of Christian Noll. Its domain was not independently load-verified during research, so no official website is asserted here.
Overview
Baden FM targets 30-to-59-year-olds with a music format mixing well-known pop and rock songs from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s with current hits. Editorially the station emphasises local journalism: content from the core region (the Freiburg city district and the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Emmendingen districts), from the wider broadcast area (the Ortenau, Lörrach and Waldshut districts), and from northern Switzerland and Alsace, where the station is also receivable. This cross-border local journalism appears throughout the programme and especially in the news at the full and half hour. A station specialty is football: baden.fm broadcasts all SC Freiburg matches live, with SC Freiburg expert Frank Rischmüller reporting uninterrupted for 30 years. Alongside the main programme, baden.fm offers online streams including kult 80er, 90er, party mix and kids club, available via the baden.fm website and app.
History
The station launched in 1989 as Radio FR1. In 2003 it was renamed Antenne Südbaden, in 2005 106.0 Antenne Südbaden, and since 2008 it has carried the name baden.fm — a naming history that mirrors the evolution of local-radio branding in southwestern Germany. The station is receivable in neighbouring Alsace and in Switzerland, from Basel to Zurich, on FM 106.0 MHz. In August 2026 ownership changed: the operator, baden.audio gmbh, passed from the Die Neue Welle Rundfunk-Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG of Nuremberg (itself part of Müller Medien GmbH & Co. KG) to the CN Medienholding GmbH, through which Christian Noll bundles his business activities.
Programming
The core programme is a full-service local format: music from three decades plus current hits, hourly and half-hourly news with local journalism from the core region and the cross-border area, and live SC Freiburg football coverage. The news rhythm — full and half hour — gives the programme a strong information character unusual for a music station. The online-stream family (kult 80er, 90er, party mix, kids club and others) extends the brand into decades and occasions that the FM programme cannot serve.
Coverage & Audience
Baden FM broadcasts on FM across Südbaden, including 106.0 MHz receivable into Alsace and German-speaking Switzerland (Basel to Zurich), on DAB+, in cable networks and as a worldwide webstream. The core region is the Freiburg city district with the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Emmendingen districts; the wider area covers the Ortenau, Lörrach and Waldshut districts. Separately published audience figures were not available in the sources consulted.
Ownership
Baden FM is a production of baden.audio gmbh. Since August 2026 the company has belonged to the CN Medienholding GmbH, the holding through which Christian Noll bundles his business activities. Previously the operator belonged to the Die Neue Welle Rundfunk-Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG of Nuremberg, part of Müller Medien GmbH & Co. KG — linking the station to the same media group behind Die neue Welle in Karlsruhe.
Digital Presence
The station operates a website and the baden.fm app with a livestream and the online-stream family (kult 80er, 90er, party mix, kids club). The digital offering carries the station's local journalism, SC Freiburg coverage and music streams to listeners beyond the FM footprint, including the Swiss and Alsatian audiences that form part of its cross-border reach.
Four Names in Four Decades
baden.fm's name history is a chronicle of German local radio: the station launched on 1 April 1989 as Radio FR1, became Antenne Südbaden in 2003, 106.0 Antenne Südbaden in 2005, and on 1 January 2008 — with an image change from Hot-AC to Gold-AC — baden.fm. The claim is "Der beste Musikmix aus 4 Jahrzehnten" ("The best music mix from 4 decades"), though since 2011 music from five decades has actually been played (70s, 80s with the focus, 90s, 2000s, 2010s). The core target group is 30-to-59-year-olds. The station is a production of the baden.audio gmbh, which since August 2026 has belonged to the CN Medienholding GmbH — Christian Noll's holding for his business activities; previously the provider belonged to the Nuremberg-based Die Neue Welle Rundfunk-Verwaltungsgesellschaft (Müller Medien). From 2001 to 2015 baden.fm worked closely in the Funkhaus Freiburg with the local TV station TV Südbaden.
The SC Freiburg Station
baden.fm broadcasts live coverage of all SC Freiburg matches — with reporter Frank Rischmüller, the SC Freiburg expert, uninterrupted for 30 years. The partnership makes baden.fm the radio home of the Breisgau's Bundesliga club: every match live, every goal called by Rischmüller. Beyond the main programme the station offers online streams (kult 80er, 90er, party mix, kids club) via the baden.fm website and app. Content focuses on local journalism from the core region (Freiburg, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, Emmendingen) and the wider area (Ortenau, Lörrach, Waldshut) — but also from northern Switzerland and Alsace, where the station is receivable.
Across Three Countries
baden.fm broadcasts for the whole of South Baden, from Achern to Weil am Rhein — and can also be received in neighbouring areas of Alsace and Switzerland, from Basel to Zurich, on FM 106.0 MHz (Blauen). Further frequencies: Freiburg 94.7, Freiburg-Littenweiler 107.7, Titisee-Neustadt 106.6. The cross-border footprint makes baden.fm one of the few German local stations with a genuine three-country audience — the Freiburg station for the border triangle.
South Baden's Local Station
baden.fm is the private local radio of Freiburg im Breisgau, broadcasting for all of South Baden — from Achern via Offenburg and Titisee-Neustadt to Lörrach and Waldshut-Tiengen. The station went on air on 1 April 1989; its reach is 170,000 listeners per day. It can also be received in adjacent areas of Alsace and northern Switzerland — from Basel to Zurich — on FM 106.0 MHz. The owner is baden.audio gmbh; the managing director is Christian Noll, the programme director Stefanie Nachtigall. Under the claim "alle deine Lieblingssongs" ("all your favourite songs"), the station airs a local full programme receivable via FM, DAB+, cable and internet.
A Pioneer City for Local Radio
Freiburg's local-radio history is older than the station itself. On 1 October 1984 Stadtradio Freiburg started — Germany's first local FM radio with private participation, a cautious experiment by the two public broadcasters SDR and SWF together with newspaper publishers; Der Spiegel reported on the launch. The trial operation was discontinued after about one and a half to two years, in October 1986. baden.fm, launched in 1989, built on that pioneering ground and became the permanent commercial local voice of the region. From 2001 to 2015 it worked closely in the Funkhaus Freiburg with TV Südbaden (owned by the Funkhaus Freiburg GmbH & Co. KG, a subsidiary of Nuremberg's Neue Welle Rundfunk-Verwaltungsgesellschaft), a regional TV full programme that ceased operations in January 2015 for financial reasons. baden.fm remains — the border-triangle station for South Baden, Alsace and northern Switzerland, on air for over three and a half decades.
