About Big Bang News

Big Bang News

Big Bang News, also styled BigBangNews, is a digital-native news portal based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and published in Spanish at bigbangnews.com. It was co-founded in 2015 by the television journalist Jorge Rial together with the businessman Miguel Pires. The site combines political content with entertainment coverage, and it operates as an online-only title with its own editorial team rather than as the website of a printed newspaper or a television channel. In the decade since its launch it has become a familiar name in Argentine digital media, regularly cited by national media for its political and entertainment scoops, and closely identified in the public mind with Rial, for many years one of the best-known presenters on Argentine television.

Founding and founders

Big Bang News was created in 2015, when Jorge Rial was at the height of his television career as the long-running host of Intrusos, the entertainment programme on America TV that he fronted for two decades, and of the Argentine edition of Gran Hermano, the local Big Brother. Spanish-language reference biographies of Rial record that in 2015 he co-founded the digital news portal Big Bang News with the businessman Miguel Pires, and that the site combines political and show-business content. The partnership joined two complementary assets: Rial brought a famous name, a large personal audience and a newsroom instinct formed in entertainment journalism, while the venture was structured from the start as a stand-alone digital business rather than as an extension of any television programme.

The launch belonged to a wider mid-2010s wave in which well-known Argentine broadcast journalists began building digital properties of their own, as audiences and advertising moved online and as social networks became the main distribution channel for news. A portal owned by its founder-presenter could publish at the speed of social media, trade on a personal brand, and mix the two subjects - national politics and celebrity news - that drive the largest online audiences in Argentina.

What it publishes

The portal's coverage, as described in national directory listings, spans politics, police news, show business and general news. Its homepage on any given day typically leads with national politics - government decisions, opposition moves, court cases and electoral conflict - and gives comparable weight to entertainment: television, celebrity disputes, reality-show developments and the private lives of public figures. Police and court reporting, a staple of Argentine popular journalism, forms a third strand, and sport, society and viral stories complete a deliberately broad, high-volume mix aimed at a general audience rather than a specialist one.

That mixture is the site's defining editorial choice. Where most Argentine digital natives specialise - in politics, in business, in sport or in fact-checking - Big Bang News was built on the presenter's judgement that the same reader who follows a ministerial scandal in the morning will follow a television scandal in the afternoon, and that a single fast homepage can serve both appetites. Its entertainment coverage draws on the world Rial knows best, the Buenos Aires television industry, while its political coverage adopts the direct, personality-driven style of that world, foregrounding conflict, revelation and consequence.

Jorge Rial and the portal

The portal cannot be separated from its founder's public career. Rial hosted Intrusos for twenty years, celebrating that anniversary in 2020, before leaving the programme in early 2021 to front the prime-time show TV Nostra on America TV; his association with the channel ended in July 2021. He subsequently worked in radio, with Argenzuela on Radio 10 from August 2021, and in television again as host of the television version of Argenzuela on the news channel C5N from July 2022, after a spell hosting Sobredosis de TV on the same channel. From June 2024 he has also presented programmes on the streaming channel Carnaval Stream, and in June 2025 he debuted there alongside Viviana Canosa, Alejandro Fantino and Fabian Doman in the channel's central programme.

Throughout those moves, Big Bang News remained his own property and his own platform. Other outlets have noted the relationship in passing - describing BigBangNews, in one widely shared example, as his own online news site when reporting how he used social media to amplify its stories - and the portal's entertainment journalism frequently covers the same programmes and personalities that populate his broadcast work. For the portal, the founder's continued presence on radio, cable news and streaming keeps its name in front of broadcast audiences; for the founder, the portal provides a publishing house that no channel can take away.

Editorial character

Big Bang News writes in the register of Argentine popular digital journalism: short, declarative headlines, rapid updates, and a preference for the exclusive fact - the document, the recording, the confirmed separation, the resignation - over long analysis. National media regularly cite it for political and entertainment scoops, which is the currency such a portal trades in: a story first published by Big Bang News and then taken up by television programmes and larger newspapers establishes the brand with both audiences and sources. Its political coverage sits within the broad current of Argentine journalism critical of the national governments of the day in varying degrees, and its critics, in turn, treat it as a partisan actor in its own right; in April 2026, for example, a rival political outlet publicly accused the portal of acting against the government of President Javier Milei, an accusation that itself illustrates how central such portals have become to Argentine political argument. Such claims are reported here as part of the portal's contested public profile, not as established fact.

The entertainment side of the site works the same circuit from the other direction. Television programmes discuss stories the portal has published; the portal reports the programmes' reactions; and commercial arrangements have at times formalised the relationship, as when a Patagonian tourism body contracted promotion that included, alongside segments on Intrusos, the publication of news items on Big Bang News and mentions on Rial's social networks - a small, documented example of how a founder-led portal monetises the combined reach of television, web and social audiences.

Business model and operation

Big Bang News is an online-only operation. It has no printed edition, no broadcast licence and no legacy newsroom to sustain, and it publishes from Buenos Aires for a national audience. Like other independent Argentine portals of its generation, it depends on digital advertising and on the traffic generated by search and social distribution, which rewards exactly the mix it publishes: politics for reach among news audiences, entertainment for volume and loyalty, and police news for the steady demand of the popular market. Its own editorial team produces its content; it is not a republication site for a parent newspaper, and its stories are bylined and updated as its own reporting develops.

Place among Argentine digital natives

Argentina's digital-native generation includes generalists such as Minuto Uno and Urgente24, political specialists, business portals and a later wave of membership-funded independents. Big Bang News is distinctive within that generation for the fame of its founder and for the deliberate fusion of its two beats. Most political portals treat entertainment as a traffic supplement; most entertainment portals avoid sustained political coverage. Big Bang News was designed, from its 2015 founding, to do both under one brand, on the theory - borne out by its longevity - that in Argentina the two audiences are largely the same audience.

Audience and citation

The clearest evidence of the portal's standing is the behaviour of other media. National newspapers, television programmes and radio shows cite its political and entertainment exclusives, and its founder's stories routinely travel from the portal to broadcast panels and back again. It is listed in national directories of Argentine digital news portals as an established online-only title, and after ten years of continuous publication it belongs to the group of mid-2010s digital launches that survived the consolidation of the Argentine online market, in which many contemporary portals closed, merged or were absorbed by larger groups.

Continuing publication

Big Bang News continues to publish daily from Buenos Aires, updating its homepage continuously with politics, police news, entertainment and general news. Its founder remains one of the most recognisable media figures in the country, active across radio, cable television and streaming, and the portal remains the digital house brand of that career: the place where the presenter's journalism appears under his own ownership, in his own name, and on his own terms.
