About Canal C Córdoba
Canal C Córdoba
Canal C Córdoba, styled Canal C Argentina, is a basic cable television channel broadcasting from the city of Córdoba, Argentina. It is owned by Ebeluz S.A. and operated through Grupo Showsport, the group behind the sports channel Showsport, with which it shares its home at Juan de Garay 954 in the Pueyrredón district of Córdoba. Canal C was founded in 2005 and began transmissions on 10 May 2005, replacing the earlier Canal 2 Cba TV (1989–2005) in the local cable offer. It is a general-interest channel with programming produced entirely in Córdoba, carried for the Córdoba market by Cablevisión — now Flow — where it is found on channel 7 and, in HD, on channel 540, and it has grown from a city cable signal into a channel distributed across Argentina and into Uruguay. Its slogan is "Estamos con vos en todo el país". A note on sources is appropriate for this entry: Canal C is documented more thinly in print than the open provincial channels, and this profile relies principally on the channel's institutional record, the documented history of its predecessor and sister channel, and the channel group's own published anniversary account; where the record is limited, the profile says so rather than speculate.
Origins: from Canal 2 Cba TV to Canal C
Canal C is the successor of a longer-lived local signal. Its documented predecessor is Canal 2 Cba TV, which served the Córdoba cable market from 1989 to 2005 — sixteen years in which a locally produced general channel was an established part of the city's cable grid. When that signal ended in 2005, Canal C took its place: the new channel began transmissions on 10 May 2005 under Ebeluz S.A., keeping the concept of a Córdoba-made general-interest channel but under a new brand built around the initial of the city itself. The letter C — for Córdoba — is the channel's whole identity statement: a signal that defines itself by the city and province it comes from, a positioning its group still summarises as programming that is one hundred per cent Cordobesa.
Ownership and the Grupo Showsport
Canal C is owned by Ebeluz S.A. and operated through Grupo Showsport, the media group whose name comes from its elder channel. Showsport, the group's sports signal, began regular transmissions in November 1995 — its foundation is dated 1 October 1995 and its start of transmissions 21 November 1995 — and its slogan is "El canal de nuestro deporte", the channel of our sport. The two channels share the group's headquarters at Juan de Garay 954 in Pueyrredón, Córdoba, and together they constitute a small local television industry: for its twentieth and thirtieth anniversaries in 2025, the group published an institutional account recording more than eighty programmes of Córdoba production across its signals, more than one hundred journalists on screen, and dozens of families who found their vocation in the group. Canal C is the general-interest half of that house: news, magazines and local affairs, where Showsport is the sports half.
Programming model
Canal C's model, as the group describes it, is a Córdoba channel with national reach: born with the vocation of being the voice of Córdoba and of the interior of the country, it evolved with new audiovisual consumption to reach the whole country and Uruguay, with one hundred per cent Córdoba programming and eight hours a day of live production. Eight hours of daily live programming is a substantial commitment for a local cable channel, and it defines the channel's character: it is not a loop of acquired content but a live, news-centred service made in Córdoba studios. Its news output is published through the group's digital platforms under the Canal C brand, covering the daily agenda of the city and province — courts, police, municipal and provincial government, consumer affairs and community news — in the same register as its on-air journalism.
The sister channel: Showsport
Understanding Canal C requires its sibling. Showsport has covered Córdoba sport since 1995: in the group's own anniversary summary, it has been privileged witness to the promotions of Talleres, the triumphs of Belgrano, the titles of Instituto, the nine championships of Atenas in basketball, and the careers of Córdoba's Olympic athletes. It produces more than forty-five programmes a week with more than fifty professionals on screen, carries Showsport Noticias, described as the first and only daily sports newscast of the Argentine interior, reaches more than 350,000 subscribers via streaming and HD, and began broadcasting in HD on 30 July 2018; the group also operates the radio station Showsport Splendid on FM 101.3. Canal C and Showsport share infrastructure, journalists and production capacity, so the general channel's news operation stands on the same base that sustains the province's most established sports signal.
Distribution and technical profile
Canal C is classified as basic cable, and its historic home is the Córdoba grid of Cablevisión, now Flow, where guides place it on channel 7 and on 540 in high definition. Its published signal format is 1080i HDTV, downscaled to 16:9 standard definition for its SD feed. Although born as a city signal visible across Córdoba Province and nearby areas, its distribution has expanded beyond the province: the channel's own institutional description records that it now reaches the whole country and Uruguay, and its slogan — "Estamos con vos en todo el país", we are with you across the whole country — was adopted to match that wider footprint. Its official website operates at canalc.com.ar, within the group's shared digital presence.
Anniversaries and institutional identity
In 2025 Canal C marked twenty years on air, in a joint celebration with Showsport's thirtieth anniversary, for which the group produced an institutional video reviewing both signals' trajectories. The anniversary account describes the two channels as having grown together with the province and become references of local journalism through sustained work in immediacy, plurality and technical innovation — the three values the group claims for itself. Milestones of that kind matter for a channel of Canal C's type: a basic-cable local signal survives only by being continuously re-chosen by operators and audiences, and twenty years of continuous operation, from the 2005 replacement of Canal 2 Cba TV to national distribution, is the channel's principal credential.
Digital presence
Canal C's journalism also appears in the group's shared digital operation, where a dedicated Canal C section publishes the channel's news — provincial government, courts, police, consumer and community stories from Córdoba — alongside Showsport's sports coverage. The arrangement mirrors the two channels' shared newsroom: a single Córdoba media group publishing a general-news brand and a sports brand in print-like digital form as well as on television. For a basic-cable channel, that digital front door is increasingly how audiences beyond the cable grid encounter its journalism, and it carries the Canal C name to readers who may never tune to channel 7 of Flow.
Place in Córdoba television
Córdoba is Argentina's second media market, with open channels of national-network affiliation, university signals and a dense cable offer. Within it, Canal C occupies the specific niche of the locally owned general-interest cable channel: produced in the city by a Córdoba group, live for much of the day, and exportable — through its expanded distribution — as a window on Córdoba for the rest of the country. Peer-reviewed research on the television of Córdoba and Rosario (La Trama de la Comunicación, 2020) documents Canal C alongside Showsport among the local cable signals serving the city of Córdoba, which is the context in which the channel belongs in the academic record: one of the surviving locally produced signals of a large interior city, in a national system where most cable channels are produced in Buenos Aires. Its record in print remains thinner than that of the open channels — there is, as yet, no long institutional history of Canal C comparable to those of the provincial state broadcasters — but its two decades of continuous broadcasting, its documented origin in 2005 as successor to a signal dating from 1989, and its growth from a city channel to national distribution are established, and they define its place in the media geography of Córdoba.
