About Comforter TV

Comforter TV

Overview

Comforter TV is a Christian television service operated by Jesus Redeems Ministries, a Tamil Nadu-based evangelical ministry headquartered at Nalumavadi in Thoothukudi district. Unlike most of the channels listed in Indian television directories, Comforter TV was conceived from the start as a digital channel rather than a conventional satellite service. It streams round the clock, carrying gospel messages, live prayer, worship and Bible teaching to viewers who reach it through its website, mobile applications and connected-TV platforms rather than through a traditional cable or DTH channel number.

The channel's own description of itself is consistent across its website and its app-store listings: it exists to comfort every soul around the globe through a far-reaching digital media platform, streaming the gospel of Jesus Christ twenty-four hours a day to a multilingual audience. That emphasis on comfort is not incidental. It is built into the name, into the programme titles the channel promotes, and into the way the service presents prayer as an immediate, on-demand encounter rather than a scheduled religious broadcast that viewers must wait for.

Origins and the Vision Behind the Channel

According to the channel's own account, the idea for Comforter TV took shape in 2017, during a revival prayer meeting in Tel Aviv, Israel. The channel states that, during that prayer, Prophet Vincent Selva Kumar spoke about launching a full gospel channel that would carry the gospel beyond languages and nations. What began as a word spoken in prayer was then developed into a working media project by Jesus Redeems Ministries.

The channel credits two men as the bearers of that vision: Bro. Vincent Selva Kumar and Bro. Mohan C. Lazarus, the founder of Jesus Redeems Ministries. Their stated purpose for the service was to take the gospel to the ends of the earth and, in the ministry's theological framing, to prepare the nations for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Comforter TV therefore does not describe itself as a commercial broadcaster competing for ratings. It describes itself as a missionary effort carried out by electronic means, a distinction that shapes everything from its funding appeals to the tone of its presenters.

The Parent Ministry: Jesus Redeems

Jesus Redeems Ministries, the organisation behind Comforter TV, is based at Nalumavadi, near Kurumbur railway station in Thoothukudi district, Tamil Nadu, with its Tabernacle of God complex there serving as the ministry's headquarters. The ministry's founder, Bro. Mohan C. Lazarus, began his ministerial journey in 1978. By the ministry's own telling, Lazarus was raised in a staunch Hindu background and was initially antagonistic towards the gospel; his life changed after he experienced what he described as a miraculous healing from an unresolved heart ailment, after which he accepted Jesus as his lord and saviour and committed himself to ministry for the rest of his life.

Over more than four decades, that ministry grew into a large prayer-centred organisation. It established Gethsemane Prayer Centres and World Revival Prayer Centres in numerous towns and cities, gathering prayer volunteers for daily intercession, and it conducts prayer events that include twelve-hour prayers and fasting camps. It reaches children, teenagers, young people and women through campaigns, and it has long used magazines, festivals and television appearances to spread its message. Comforter TV is best understood as the point at which that existing prayer and publishing network acquired a dedicated, always-on channel of its own.

Language and Reach

Although Jesus Redeems is rooted in Tamil-speaking Tamil Nadu, and Tamil is central to Comforter TV's output — many of its live programmes carry Tamil titles and Tamil presenters — the channel was deliberately built as a multilingual service. Its published language list covers Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi and English, and extends beyond India to Arabic, Mandarin Chinese and Hebrew. That spread reflects both the Indian diaspora audience the ministry seeks to serve and its stated ambition to reach viewers well outside the country.

The multilingual approach is visible in the schedule itself. Alongside Tamil prayer programmes, the channel's output includes dedicated Hindi live sessions, such as Hindi blessing fasting prayer broadcasts, and English-language devotionals. This is a practical response to a real viewing pattern: a ministry based in southern Tamil Nadu whose supporters and prayer partners are scattered across India and abroad needs more than one language if a single stream is to hold them together.

Programming

Comforter TV's programming is built around prayer, worship and spoken teaching rather than entertainment formats. Its best-known recurring strands, promoted across its YouTube and social channels, include live prayer programmes inviting viewers to come and pray together, live worship sessions, and blessing fasting prayer broadcasts held in both Tamil and Hindi. A programme strand presented as the viewer's miracle time, and messages on themes such as the truth setting people free, illustrate the channel's promise that watching is meant to lead to personal change, healing and deliverance.

Daily devotionals form another part of the mix. The wider Jesus Redeems output, distributed through its channels, includes short morning devotional messages such as Walk with Jesus, presented in English as well as in Indian languages. Youth-oriented material also appears among the promoted programme names, reflecting the ministry's separate outreach to young people. Special live broadcasts mark the Christian calendar, including services for occasions such as Maundy Thursday, and the channel regularly streams live events under the Comforter Live banner, with daily scripture verses published alongside the broadcasts to keep the audience returning between programmes.

A Digital-First Distribution Model

The most distinctive feature of Comforter TV is how it reaches its audience. The channel's listings consistently point viewers to its own website and to apps rather than to satellite positions. Its Android and iOS applications, published by Jesus Redeems Ministries, carry the live stream and on-demand messages; the iOS app was released in July 2020 and has continued to receive updates since. A dedicated Roku channel followed, with the Roku listing for Comforter TV dating from June 2023, placing the service on televisions in markets such as the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

This model has clear advantages for a ministry channel. It avoids the carriage costs of satellite distribution, it reaches diaspora viewers in any country with an internet connection, and it lets the ministry measure and speak to its audience directly. It also explains why descriptions of Comforter TV in channel guides sometimes appear sparse: there is no single LCN to list, because the service was never primarily organised around one.

Comforter Radio and the Wider Media Family

Comforter TV does not stand alone. The ministry operates a companion audio service, Comforter Radio, with its own website and its own Android and iOS applications, promoted alongside the television service in its broadcast descriptions. Viewers are routinely given a single point of contact for both services, including a WhatsApp number for enquiries, and are invited to download the Comforter app to follow live broadcasts and catch up with messages.

Together, the television stream, the radio stream, the ministry's magazines and its prayer-centre network form a single media ecosystem. A person might first encounter a short devotional on social media, join a live prayer on Comforter TV, listen to Comforter Radio during the day, and attend a World Revival Prayer Centre meeting in their own town. The channel is the broadcast centre of that ecosystem, but it is designed to feed people back into the ministry's prayer life rather than simply accumulate viewing hours.

Digital and Social Presence

Social platforms are central to Comforter TV's operation. The channel maintains an active presence on Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) under its Comforter TV and Comforter Digital Channel identities, and its YouTube output carries the bulk of its live prayer and worship streams, complete with programme titles in Tamil script and English. Live broadcasts are trailed in advance, daily Bible verses are posted as short updates, and viewers are repeatedly urged to like, follow, subscribe and join in order, in the channel's words, to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth.

The channel also runs a two-way relationship with its audience that traditional television rarely attempts. Jesus Redeems publicises round-the-clock prayer support telephone lines and dedicated email addresses for prayer requests, partner enquiries and general information, and Comforter TV's broadcasts repeatedly invite testimonies from viewers who believe they have been helped. Prayer, in this model, is not only broadcast content; it is the service the channel offers in return for attention.

Audience and Positioning

Comforter TV positions itself for viewers who are, in its own words, living with sorrow, dejection, burdens, sickness and pain. Its founding statements argue that the need for hope and comfort is rising, and that material riches cannot fill what it calls the God-shaped vacuum in every heart. That positioning explains the channel's gentle branding — a comforter, not a preacher shouting from a screen — and its heavy emphasis on healing, miracles and personal testimony.

Within India's crowded devotional television market, which includes large Hindi and regional faith channels carried on every major DTH platform, Comforter TV occupies a different niche: a Tamil-rooted, ministry-owned, digital-only gospel service with an unusually wide language ambition. It does not compete on film rights, serials or news. It competes on availability — the promise that at any hour, in any of its languages, a prayer or a word of comfort is already streaming.

How to Watch

Viewers can watch Comforter TV live through its official website, comfortertv.com, which carries the twenty-four-hour digital stream. The Comforter TV app is available for Android and iOS devices, and a Comforter TV channel is available on Roku for viewers using that platform. Live prayer, worship and special services are also streamed through the channel's YouTube presence and promoted through its Facebook and Instagram pages, while Comforter Radio provides an audio-only companion for listeners who prefer to follow on the move.
