About Die Steuerberatung

Die Steuerberatung

Die Steuerberatung (Stbg) is a German-language monthly specialist journal for tax law and the tax advisory profession, published by Lefebvre Stollfuß in Bonn. It is the official organ of the Deutscher Steuerberaterverband e.V. (DStV), the German association of tax advisors based in Berlin, and has appeared under its current title since 15 January 1958, giving it a continuous publication history of nearly seven decades. The journal informs tax advisors, auditors, lawyers, and other legal and business consultants about current legal developments in tax law and professional law. With a sold circulation of 34,500 copies and a digital circulation of 36,000, it is one of the established journals of the German tax-law publishing market, reaching the organized tax advisory profession through the association's membership structure. Its print ISSN is 0490-9658, and its editor-in-chief is Bert Kaminski, whose role as Schriftleiter places him at the centre of the journal's editorial quality assurance.

Overview

Die Steuerberatung is a monthly journal that appears eleven times a year, with the July/August issue published as a double issue, always on the 15th of the month. This fixed publication date, maintained since 1958, gives the journal a predictable rhythm for its readers and for the association's communications. It addresses the members of the tax advisory professions: tax advisors, auditors, specialist lawyers for tax law, and tax experts in companies and public authorities. According to the publisher, tax advisors make up around 87 percent of the readership, and since members of the DStV or one of its regional associations receive the journal as part of their membership, this group accounts for 95 percent of recipients, giving the journal an exceptionally homogeneous and well-defined audience.

The journal's content range extends from national and international tax law, tax criminal law, and auditing and accounting to commercial, labour, and social law, business administration, new consulting fields, and professional law. It is characterized by its strong practical orientation and high topicality, with continuously updated overviews of legislation and case law and planning considerations at the turn of the year. Practical tips, recommendations on legal remedies, and current information from the DStV's professional work round out the offering, and the journal's compact monthly format delivers the key information for professional consulting and firm organization in a concise, practice-oriented presentation.

History

The journal's predecessor was "Aus Beruf und Praxis", published since 1949 by the Verband der Steuerberatenden Berufe (VDB) together with the Zentralverband der Helfer in Steuersachen im Bundesgebiet und West-Berlin. On 15 January 1958 the journal appeared for the first time under its current title Die Steuerberatung, and it has been published monthly ever since, always on the 15th of the month, making it one of the longest-running journals of the German tax advisory profession with more than 65 years of publication history.

The journal has been published by the Stollfuß publishing house of Bonn, which was acquired by the French Lefebvre Sarrut group and is now continued as the Lefebvre Stollfuß branch of Lefebvre GmbH, based at Bundeskanzlerplatz 2 in Bonn. The publisher describes itself as an information service provider for tax advisors, auditors, lawyers, notaries, financial and payroll accountants, and payroll offices, and its programme includes specialist journals, commentaries, and practice-oriented guides by renowned authors and editors alongside Die Steuerberatung. The publisher's journal portfolio includes titles such as the Deutsche Steuer-Zeitung, Entscheidungen der Finanzgerichte, and the Steuer-Eildienst, making it one of the established specialist publishers for German tax law.

Coverage and Content

The journal's content focuses on national and international tax law across all types of taxes, tax criminal law, auditing and accounting, commercial law, labour and social law, business consulting, new consulting fields, and professional law. It provides practical tips and recommendations on legal remedies, guidance on structuring considerations at the turn of the year, and continuously updated overviews of legislation and case law, keeping practitioners current with the rapid development of tax legislation and jurisprudence.

As the organ of the DStV, the journal also covers professional law and professional policy topics, representing the interests of the tax advisory profession and informing readers about the association's work. The DStV, as the representative of the tax advisory professions, uses the journal to communicate its positions on tax policy and professional regulation to its members, making the journal a channel for the profession's collective voice alongside its technical content. Recent issues have addressed topics such as the tax treatment of Bitcoin mining, where the journal examined the tax authorities' regular classification of mining participation as a commercial activity against the background of the Federal Ministry of Finance's guidance and the critical debate on the blanket commerciality assertion. This illustrates the journal's attention to emerging questions of tax practice, from digital assets to new business models.

The journal's strong practical orientation is ensured by recommendations on legal remedies and structuring, suggestions for practice organization, working aids, and references to important court decisions, decrees, and legislative projects. The publisher's media data emphasizes the journal's direct access to firm owners: 90 percent of readers make investment decisions themselves or participate in them, and tax advisors serve an average of about 300 clients per year, making the journal's readership a multiplier audience for advertisers.

Organization and Ownership

Die Steuerberatung is published by Lefebvre Stollfuß, the Bonn branch of Lefebvre GmbH, part of the French Lefebvre Sarrut group, in cooperation with the Deutscher Steuerberaterverband e.V. (DStV) of Berlin, whose official organ it is. The editor-in-chief is Bert Kaminski, professor at the University of Hamburg, who as Schriftleiter guarantees the journal's excellent quality and the balanced selection of its content.

The journal appears eleven times a year under the ISSN 0490-9658, with the July/August double issue bridging the summer months. The annual subscription price is 472.40 euros plus shipping, with a cancellation period of six weeks to the end of a calendar year. Subscribers receive access to the Stbg online specialist portal and the Stbg app for iPads, and the publisher's customer service handles membership access questions.

Digital Presence

Die Steuerberatung maintains a digital presence through the publisher's platforms, with a digital circulation of 36,000 copies reported in the current media data. Subscribers receive access to the Stbg online specialist portal and the Stbg app for iPads, extending the monthly print journal into digital formats for reading on tablets and mobile devices. The journal's media data presents it as the official organ of the DStV, addressing tax advisors, auditors, specialist lawyers for tax law, and tax experts in companies, with advertising formats and prices published in the current rate card, which also lists special placements and classified advertisement rates for the profession's recruitment and services market. The media data positions the journal for direct addressing of firm owners, emphasizing the absence of scatter loss in its precisely defined target group. The journal's magazine format measures 210 by 297 millimetres, and its advertising rate card publishes formats from full-page colour advertisements to classified advertisements for the tax advisory market.

Whether the journal maintains dedicated social media channels is not publicly confirmed from the sources consulted, and its online presence remains centred on the publisher's platforms and the DStV's digital channels, which together serve the journal's readers, subscribers, and the association's members.
