About Eurailpress

Eurailpress

Eurailpress is the rail-transport media brand of the DVV Media Group, based in Hamburg, and the leading German-language publisher of specialist information for professionals in the rail and railway industry. Under this brand, the publishing group produces the leading German-language specialist publications for professionals in the rail and railway industry: the weekly industry report Rail Business, the monthly technical journal ETR – Eisenbahntechnische Rundschau, the journal EI – Der Eisenbahningenieur, and signal + draht, the specialist title for command, control and signalling technology. Complemented by e-papers, newsletters, online archives, websites and industry events such as conferences and seminars, Eurailpress serves the entire railway system – from infrastructure managers and train operators to the supply industry, policymakers and researchers.

Overview

Eurailpress is not a single magazine but a portfolio brand: within the DVV Media Group, it bundles the rail publications that are market leaders in the German-speaking countries. The brand's publications appear in monthly and weekly rhythms, as e-papers, newsletters, online archives and websites, and are supplemented by events such as conferences and specialist seminars. A weekly Eurailpress newsletter delivers current information from the railway industry to subscribers.

The flagship titles each serve a distinct audience within the railway system. Rail Business is the weekly industry report for the entire rail transport market, offering compact news, background reports, interviews and commentary on politics, law, railway companies, industry, operations, infrastructure, technology, personnel, services, associations and events – with a focus on both freight and passenger transport, operated by state-owned and private railways alike. Its readership consists of decision-makers and executives across the industry. ETR – Eisenbahntechnische Rundschau, published monthly since 1952, is the technical journal for technology, operations, science and research in guided transport. EI – Der Eisenbahningenieur addresses railway engineers, while signal + draht covers signalling and control technology.

Regular special editions enrich the portfolio: country editions in the respective national language on the one hand, and issues dedicated to a specific overarching theme – such as freight railways or permanent way – on the other. The brand also includes the bimonthly bahn manager magazine, founded in 2016 and part of the Eurailpress program since 2021, which targets boards, managing directors and executives across the rail sector with business-relevant content in a modern, accessible form – reaching around 1,000 print readers plus approximately 2,000 e-paper recipients per issue.

History

The roots of the Eurailpress brand lie in the Deutsche Verkehrs-Verlag (DVV), the Hamburg-based transport publishing house with a long tradition in logistics and transport media. The Eurailpress division grew as the group's dedicated rail publishing unit, building a portfolio of specialist titles that mirrored the structure of the railway industry itself: business intelligence for managers, technical depth for engineers, and specialized coverage for signalling, infrastructure and operations.

A decisive expansion came in April 2007, when DVV acquired the Railway Gazette Group from the British media company Reed Business Information UK. The acquisition brought the monthly flagship Railway Gazette International – the world's leading publication for the railway industry, founded in 1835 as The Railway Magazine – into the group, along with the Rail Business Intelligence newsletter, the Metro Report journal for urban rail transport, and the Railway Directory yearbook. The titles were integrated with DVV's technical rail publications and railway books, creating synergies between the German-language Eurailpress portfolio and the English-language international titles.

Since then, the Eurailpress brand has continued to develop its publications for a railway industry transformed by liberalization, digitalization and the European Green Deal's push for rail freight and passenger growth. The portfolio has expanded to include new formats such as the bahn manager magazine and digital products, while the core journals – ETR since 1952, signal + draht with its own long tradition – have maintained their positions as the authoritative technical voices of the German-speaking railway world.

Content and Sections

The content spectrum of the Eurailpress portfolio covers all segments of the railway system. Rail Business delivers the business side: compact weekly news on railway companies, infrastructure managers, rolling-stock manufacturers and service providers; background reports on market developments; interviews with industry leaders; and commentary on politics and regulation – from German rail policy and EU railway packages to tendering, competition and financing. A daily newsletter complements the weekly print and PDF edition with breaking news.

ETR – Eisenbahntechnische Rundschau provides the technical depth: peer-reviewed-style technical articles on railway technology, operations, science and research, covering infrastructure, rolling stock, signalling, energy supply and digitalization. Four times a year, special pages present technical contributions and news on rail transport and railway technology from Austria and Switzerland; up to four times a year, international editions of ETR appear in the respective national language or in English.

EI – Der Eisenbahningenieur serves the engineering profession with practice-oriented technical content, while signal + draht focuses on command, control and signalling technology – the safety-critical systems at the heart of railway operations. The bahn manager magazine takes the executive perspective, with business-relevant content on strategy, leadership and market development. Special editions on key topics – freight railways, permanent way, digitalization – regularly round off the portfolio, and country editions address international markets in their own languages.

Publisher and Organization

Eurailpress is a brand of the DVV Media Group GmbH, headquartered at Heidenkampsweg 75 in Hamburg. The DVV Media Group is the Hamburg-based transport and logistics publishing house whose portfolio spans rail, logistics, shipping and public transport media. The Eurailpress division is led by its own publishing management within the group structure.

The editorial teams are organized by title and subject area. For Rail Business, the editorial office includes specialists for business and freight transport, technology, infrastructure and passenger transport, and politics and law – reflecting the weekly's comprehensive market coverage. The technical journals are edited by railway engineers and technical journalists with deep roots in the industry. The group's international dimension is anchored by DVV Media UK Ltd. in Sutton, Surrey, England, which publishes Railway Gazette International and its sister titles.

The DVV Media Group's rail business combines publishing with events: conferences, seminars and industry gatherings under the Eurailpress umbrella bring together the community the journals serve, creating a 360-degree media offering of print, digital, data and face-to-face formats.

Digital Presence

The digital presence of Eurailpress centers on eurailpress.de, the portal that bundles the brand's publications, news, archives and services. The site offers current industry news, access to e-paper editions, newsletter subscriptions and the online archives of the journals. A weekly newsletter delivers the latest railway-industry information to subscribers' inboxes, while Rail Business readers receive a daily news service with breaking stories.

The Eurailpress Kiosk app makes the publications available as e-journals on mobile devices: readers can access all editions and the complete archives of Rail Business, ETR, EI, signal + draht and the other Eurailpress titles. Digital licenses allow companies to supply entire teams with e-paper access under central billing. The Railway Gazette side of the group operates RailwayGazette.com with news and sample articles from the monthly magazine.

Social media channels, video content and the event business extend the brand's digital footprint. Through its combination of authoritative print journals, fast digital news services, comprehensive archives and industry events, Eurailpress functions as the information infrastructure of the German-speaking railway industry – the medium through which the sector talks to itself about technology, markets and policy, and the first address for anyone who needs to understand what moves on rails.
