About European Times Online
European Times Online
European Times Online is the online arm, at oushinet.com, of Nouvelles d'Europe — in Chinese 欧洲时报, the European Times — the Paris-based Chinese-language media group published by Guang Hua Cultures et Média. Nouvelles d'Europe was established in 1983 in Paris, followed by the Guang Hua group in 1984, and is described in research on Europe's Chinese-language media as the largest overseas Chinese media network in Europe, using multiple print and online channels in France and a network of branches across the continent for Chinese-language audiences. Its website publishes European, French, China and world news in Chinese for the European Chinese diaspora. The group has since built regional editions and offices across Europe, including a United Kingdom edition launched in 2011, and an English-language brand, China Minutes. European Times Online is the digital centre of that network.
Founding in Paris in 1983
Nouvelles d'Europe was established in 1983 in Paris, and the Guang Hua Cultures et Média group followed in 1984. The founding placed a Chinese-language newspaper in the capital of the European country with one of the continent's oldest Chinese communities, and the title's French name — Nouvelles d'Europe, "News of Europe" — states its proposition: Europe, reported in Chinese, for Chinese readers living in Europe. The group's own later descriptions, carried by its United Kingdom operation, call it one of Europe's largest Chinese cultural and media groups, founded in Paris in 1983. Four decades on, the Paris founding remains the network's anchor: the French operation is the original, and the website oushinet.com — ou being the romanisation of 欧, "Europe," in the paper's Chinese name 欧洲时报 — is its online home.
Structure: Guang Hua and a Continent-Wide Network
The publisher is Guang Hua Cultures et Média, the Guang Hua media group. Research published by Sinopsis, a Prague-based research organisation, in its July 2021 brief on the Chinese united front system's media network in Europe, describes Nouvelles d'Europe — the trading name of Guang Hua — as the largest overseas Chinese media network in Europe, using multiple print and online channels in France and a network of branches throughout the continent to reach Chinese-language audiences. The group's United Kingdom operation describes a similar structure from inside: five regional offices across the United Kingdom, Germany, Central and Eastern Europe, Italy and Spain, supported by a network of representatives in more than twenty countries. Print editions, regional operations and the central website together make the group less a single newspaper than a federation of Chinese-language publishing across Europe, coordinated from Paris.
The United Kingdom Edition and China Minutes
The United Kingdom edition of Nouvelles d'Europe was launched in 2011. Company descriptions of the UK operation describe a 32-page A3 newspaper distributed at 35,000 copies each week around the United Kingdom — its own summit materials say more than 35,000 copies weekly across 21 UK cities — aimed at higher-educated UK Chinese readers: students, entrepreneurs, diplomats, professionals and tourists. The UK office, at 40 Craven Street in London, also manages an extensive portfolio of Chinese- and English-language digital media brands. Its English-language brand, China Minutes, is credited by the UK office with a social media audience of over four million and more than one billion annual views across its media platforms. China Minutes visibly carries the group's English-facing work — photography competitions, film festival coverage and cultural exhibitions in London — while oushinet.com remains the Chinese-language flagship online.
Content of the Online Edition
European Times Online publishes European, French, China and world news in Chinese for the European Chinese diaspora. That four-part formula — the continent the reader lives on, the country the reader lives in, the country the reader comes from, and the world — is the classic editorial architecture of a diaspora newspaper, and the Paris group's scale lets it fill each part with its own network's reporting rather than with agency copy alone: French news from Paris, European news through its regional offices and representatives, and China and world news for readers whose families and businesses span both. The website is the continuously updated form of a publishing tradition that began as print in 1983; around it, the group also works in cultural and business exchange consultancy, international market development for Chinese brands, art curation, film distribution and live event production, on the UK office's description of its portfolio.
Events and Cultural Work Around the News Brand
The group's public activity in Europe extends well beyond news pages, and its own channels document it. Nouvelles d'Europe UK co-organised the China Film Festival 2025 in London, a four-day festival at Regent Street Cinema in May 2025 hosted by the China Film Administration and the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom, where the Chinese ambassador addressed the opening. The group ran the Beauty Across Borders China–UK Photography Competition, inviting worldwide entries in sections on beautiful China and on impressions of China and the United Kingdom, with winning work exhibited offline in early 2024. Its culture and media group supported the Hanzi of the West, Letters of the East exhibition in London in November 2025, on the evolution of Chinese characters. And in October 2026 the UK operation co-hosted the WFT China Tech Go-Global Summit in London. These activities are part of how the European Times brand presents itself: not only a news outlet, but a cultural intermediary between China and Europe.
Research and Debate About the Network
Because of its scale, Nouvelles d'Europe has attracted scholarly and policy attention that smaller diaspora outlets do not. The Sinopsis research brief of July 2021, on what it calls covert propaganda operations in plain sight, examined the European operations of the China News Service and its network, and treated Nouvelles d'Europe as a central European case, describing it as connected to Chinese united-front structures — a characterisation presented in that research as the authors' finding, based on the group's personnel and partnerships. The brief records that days before its publication, a China News Service story relayed a Chinese embassy condemnation of a Sinopsis event at which some of the findings had been presented, accusing the researchers of anti-China activities. This profile reports the research and the dispute as documented facts about the debate surrounding the outlet, without adopting either side's characterisation: what is not disputed, by researchers or by the group itself, is the network's size, its Paris base, its 1983 founding and its position as Europe's largest Chinese-language media network.
Place in Europe's Chinese-Language Media
Europe's Chinese-language media is otherwise fragmented by country: national diaspora papers and portals in individual states, most of them small. Nouvelles d'Europe is the exception that research on the sector consistently identifies — the one network operating across the continent, in print and online, from a Paris headquarters with editions and offices from London to Central and Eastern Europe. Its longevity is part of that standing: founded in 1983, it predates the web, the euro and the largest waves of Chinese student and business migration to Europe, and it absorbed each change — adding the UK edition in 2011, building digital brands including China Minutes, and moving its centre of gravity online to oushinet.com. For the European Chinese diaspora it is, by the account of the researchers who study that diaspora's media, the default Chinese-language news network of the continent.
European Times Online Today
Today European Times Online continues at oushinet.com as the online arm of Nouvelles d'Europe and the Guang Hua group: Chinese-language European, French, China and world news from Paris, backed by regional offices in the United Kingdom, Germany, Central and Eastern Europe, Italy and Spain and representatives in more than twenty countries. The group's UK edition still publishes in print each week, its English brand China Minutes reaches a social audience counted in millions, and its events — film festivals, photography competitions, exhibitions and business summits — keep the European Times name in front of audiences beyond its readers. For this directory, European Times Online is the pan-European entry among Chinese online news outlets: a diaspora operation founded in Paris in 1983, and the largest overseas Chinese media network in Europe, now centred on its website.
