About Homecare Insight

Homecare Insight: Daily News for the UK Domiciliary Care Sector

Homecare Insight, published online as Home Care Insight at homecareinsight.co.uk, is a daily news service for the United Kingdom's home care sector. Based in London and published by Promedia Publishing, it is written for the owners, directors and senior managers of domiciliary care providers, the people who organise care workers to visit people in their own homes, and for the suppliers who sell them technology, equipment and services. Its coverage spans breaking sector news, regulation and inspection, funding and legislation, workforce recruitment and retention, best practice, new products and business strategy. Since its launch in January 2019 it has become a recognised trade voice for domiciliary care, running campaigns, an annual Power List and award ceremonies for the sector.

Launched in January 2019 by Promedia Publishing

Home Care Insight was announced in late 2018 by Promedia Publishing, the publisher of Care Home Professional, as a new daily news service geared towards the owners and leaders of UK domiciliary providers and their equipment suppliers. It went live in January 2019. The launch pitch was specific: daily news and insight on the home care industry, including new product launches, best practice, workforce management, technology and innovation, and information on how businesses were seeking to overcome challenges from regulation and funding to new legislation and recruitment and retention. The publisher said the service would help home care providers connect with all aspects of the industry and reach thousands of home care professionals each day, positioning it as a platform where suppliers could market technology, products and services to a fast-growing sector. It was, in other words, a classic trade media launch: a defined professional audience, underserved by daily news, in a market expanding with demographic demand.

A sister title to Care Home Professional

Homecare Insight sits inside a small stable of care-sector titles. Its sister publication, Care Home Professional, covers residential and nursing care homes, while Homecare Insight covers care delivered in people's own homes, known in the trade as domiciliary care. The distinction matters editorially and commercially. Care homes are buildings regulated as single services; home care is a dispersed workforce, often lone-working, commissioned largely by local authorities and the NHS as well as by private clients paying for their own care. A publisher running both titles can cover the whole adult social care market, and the two brands jointly present sector awards and share commercial relationships with suppliers. Promedia Publishing itself operates as ITP Promedia in its contact details for the title, and launch-era correspondence for editorial and commercial enquiries ran through the same London publishing operation.

What Homecare Insight covers

The site's news agenda follows the pressures its readers actually face. Regulation coverage centres on the Care Quality Commission, the CQC, whose inspection ratings shape a provider's reputation and ability to win contracts; stories report individual providers rated Outstanding, sector responses to the CQC's annual State of Care report, and debates about how inspection is changing. Business coverage follows acquisitions and expansion, such as large tech-enabled providers buying established home care businesses, franchise growth, and new branch openings. Workforce coverage is constant: pay, recruitment campaigns, retention and the status of care workers run through the site, reflecting a sector where staffing is the binding constraint on growth. Best practice case studies, technology and innovation stories, and profiles of new equipment and software complete the mix set out at launch and still visible in the site's news, business, compliance and best practice categories.

The campaign for care worker registration

Homecare Insight has used its platform for campaigning journalism, not only reporting. In July 2019, within months of launch, it started a campaign jointly with the National Association of Care and Support Workers for the compulsory registration of care workers in England, as was already the case in the rest of the UK, and launched a petition to enforce registration. The argument was about professional status: care workers in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland were registered with their national regulators, while England relied on employer checks alone, a gap campaigners linked to low pay and low esteem for skilled work. The campaign gave the young title a policy identity, aligned it with workforce bodies rather than only with provider owners, and is significant enough that the publication's encyclopaedia entry leads with it. It also illustrates the editorial bet behind the title: that a trade audience will engage more deeply with a title that argues for the sector, not just about it.

Awards, the Power List and sector recognition

Recognition programmes are a second pillar. Homecare Insight runs annual award ceremonies for the sector, and its Power List, unveiled each year, highlights the most influential voices in the home care industry across categories such as business executives and quality and compliance champions. Provider groups publicly celebrate their executives' inclusion, and the title has also published analytical rankings of its own, such as its identification of the top five UK home care groups drawn from review data, in which national franchise networks were scored for consistency of ratings across their branches. Together with the Leaders in Care celebrations run across the publisher's care portfolio, these programmes give suppliers and providers a calendar of set-piece moments, and give the title a convening role: it does not merely report the sector's hierarchy, it helps define who is recognised within it.

Commentary and executive voices

Alongside news, the site carries commentary from the sector's leading executives and stakeholders, opinion pieces, best practice case studies and new equipment profiles, as promised in its launch announcement. Guest columns from provider chief executives tackle subjects such as pay inequality in Scottish home care and the need for a new economic vision for care at home. Interviews explore how individual providers approach quality, family involvement and growth. This opinion layer matters because home care is a fragmented industry of thousands of mostly small businesses; there is no single trade association voice that reaches every owner-manager, so a daily title's comment pages become one of the few shared debating chambers the sector has, where commissioning practice, fee rates and workforce policy are argued out in public.

The sector it serves

To understand Homecare Insight's agenda, it helps to understand domiciliary care itself. Most formal care in the UK is now delivered at home rather than in institutions, supporting older people and disabled adults with personal care, medication, meals and companionship. Providers operate under intense financial pressure: local authority fee rates, travel time between visits, minimum wage increases and recruitment competition from retail and logistics all squeeze margins, while demand rises with an ageing population. The CQC's State of Care reporting, which the site covers closely, has repeatedly described a system under acute pressure with demand rising across health and adult social care. Homecare Insight's daily diet of funding, regulation, workforce and technology news maps directly onto those structural facts; its readers open it to learn what inspectors, commissioners, ministers and competitors did yesterday that affects their rotas and contracts tomorrow.

How readers use the service

The service was built around free email news alerts as well as the website, reflecting trade publishing practice: registration-free daily headlines in the inbox, with the site carrying the full stories, tag pages for individual companies and topics, and longer features. Companies feature in coverage by name, from national groups to single-branch independents whose first Outstanding inspection is news locally and reputationally vital. For suppliers, the title offers access to decision-makers in a purchasing market for rostering software, remote monitoring, training, uniforms, insurance and recruitment services. For providers, it functions as both trade press and shop window: being reported, ranked or listed is a form of sector credential that can be cited in tenders, franchise recruitment and local marketing.

Homecare Insight today

More than half a decade after its January 2019 launch, Homecare Insight continues to publish daily from London, covering CQC inspections and reports, provider business moves, workforce campaigns, technology adoption and the long-running argument about how social care should be funded and its workforce recognised. Its campaigning on registration, its Power List and its awards have given a young digital title an institutional presence in the sector out of proportion to its age. For anyone researching UK adult social care, whether a prospective provider, a supplier, a commissioner or a student of the care economy, Homecare Insight is the specialist news source that treats home care, so often the invisible half of the care system, as an industry worth its own front page.
