Founded February 19, 1898 as The Jackson Examiner, its daily edition began on May 16, 1905. It has served as the daily newspaper of eastern Jackson County for well over a century.
CherryRoad Media acquired the Examiner from Gannett in 2021 as part of a 20-newspaper deal. Its offices are at 410 South Liberty Street in Independence.
