About Journal of Guilin University of Electronic Technology

Journal of Guilin University of Electronic Technology

The Journal of Guilin University of Electronic Technology, published in Chinese as Guilin Dianzi Keji Daxue Xuebao, is the academic journal of Guilin University of Electronic Technology (GUET) in Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The host was founded in 1960 under the machinery and electronics industry ministries, was established as Guilin Institute of Electronic Technology in 1980, and was renamed Guilin University of Electronic Technology in 2006; it is one of China's four universities of electronic science and technology. The journal's continuity is attested in citations across four decades: a formula paper cited from its 1984, number 1 issue, work at volume 28 in 2008, volume 37, number 5, in 2017, volume 41, number 2, in 2021 — where its articles carry DOIs under the prefix 10.16725/j.cnki.cn45-1351/tn, indicating CN 45-1351/TN — and volume 44, number 1, in 2024. No ISSN was attested in the sources consulted for this profile, and none is claimed here.

Founded in 1960 for Mechanics and Electronics

GUET's history begins in February 1960, when the First Ministry of Machine Building founded it as Guilin Mechanical Faculty — in some accounts a Guilin machinery school — charged with training talent in mechanics and electronics. In the post-Cultural Revolution normalisation of higher education, the Guangxi People's Government proposed upgrading the Guilin radio school tradition into a university-level college in early 1978; after two years of preparation the State Council approved, and on 20 May 1980 the Fourth Ministry of Machine Building authorised the Guilin Institute of Electronic Technology, launching with three academic departments and six majors. The institute was governed by the Ministry of Electronics Industry from 1983, passed through the machinery-and-electronics and information-industry administrations, and in February 2000 its administration transferred from the central Ministry of Information Industry to the Guangxi People's Government. It was accredited for doctoral programmes in 2003, attained university status and its present name on 24 February 2006, and since March 2008 has been governed jointly by Guangxi and the information-industry authorities. The journal follows that whole lineage from a 1960 industry school to a provincial electronic university.

One of Four Electronic Technology Universities

The university's own introduction states the distinction plainly: as one of the four universities of electronic science and technology in China, GUET was founded in 1960. It is now jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, and the government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is among the nominated universities of the National Basic Ability Construction Project for Central and Western China, is a key public university of Guangxi, and was named among the first National Civilized Campuses — the only Guangxi university so honoured in 2017, according to institutional accounts. In November 1990 Jiang Zemin, then General Secretary, visited the school and inscribed for it the charge to train more qualified personnel for the development of the electronics industry. A journal published by one of only four institutions of its kind in China carries a national industry brief, not merely a local one.

Four Campuses and a Very Large Library

GUET operates four campuses — Jinjiling, Liuhe Road, Huajiang and Beihai — in Guilin's national high-tech development zone, the Yaoshan scenic area and Beihai's Yinhai District, with a total campus area recorded at 4,153 acres in one institutional profile, and it has also established the GUET Nanning Research Institute in the regional capital. Its library is a point of institutional pride: a building of more than 45,000 square metres, described by the university as one of the largest libraries in China, holding over 2.4465 million printed books, over 2.069 million e-books, 78 Chinese and foreign databases and more than 554,000 Chinese and foreign electronic journals in its current introduction, with earlier profiles recording 1.86 to 2.1 million paper books and tens of thousands of periodicals. For a journal, that library environment means editors and contributors work inside one of Guangxi's deepest information collections, with an advanced network and smart-campus platform behind the editorial office.

Disciplines, ESI Standing and Degree Programmes

The university's current general introduction records a discipline system focused on engineering, with coordinated development of science, economics, management, literature, law and arts, and distinctive electronic information disciplines. Engineering, materials science and computer science have all entered the global top one percent of ESI rankings. The same introduction records three postdoctoral research stations, five doctoral programmes, twenty first-level master's programmes — other listings record four first-level doctoral disciplines, nineteen master's disciplines and eleven professional master's categories — and 79 undergraduate programmes, including twenty national-level programmes and twelve programmes with engineering-education accreditation; an earlier university profile recorded seventeen colleges running seventy bachelor programmes. More than 3,200 faculty members are recorded in recent profiles. Research output at that level feeds the journal directly: the university's Nature Index page records output in journals such as Advanced Functional Materials, Energy and Nature Communications, evidence of an electronics and materials research community whose earlier and applied work the home journal publishes.

Schools Behind the Journal

The schools recorded for GUET map the journal's scope. Founding-era units from 1980 include the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Information and Communication, and the School of Computer Science and Information Security; later additions include mathematics and computing science in 1997, electronic engineering and automation in 2000, materials science and engineering in 2003, life and environmental sciences in 2010, architecture and transportation engineering in 2011, Marxism in 2013, artificial intelligence in 2018, optoelectronic engineering in 2021, and a Clermont Institute of Intelligence and Finance in 2025, bringing the total to eighteen academic schools and institutes by 2026. The Faculty of Information and Communication, enrolling undergraduates since 1980, illustrates the depth: some 2,800 undergraduates and more than 300 graduate students, a doctoral programme in signal and information processing, seven master's programmes spanning communications and information systems, electronic science and technology, physical electronics, circuits and systems, microelectronics and electromagnetic field and microwave technology, and five bachelor's programmes. The School of Artificial Intelligence, established in July 2018 as a pilot college-run institution to serve Guangxi's regional economic construction, adds computer science, data structures and artificial intelligence to the journal's contemporary range.

What the Journal Publishes, in Attested Practice

The clean record for this title describes a journal publishing electronics, information, mechatronics and the university's applied research for Guangxi industry, and the citation record shows that scope concretely. Attested articles include face-recognition research combining two-dimensional principal component analysis, wavelet theory and frame theory at volume 37, number 5, pages 391 to 395, in 2017; research on automatic switching conditions for hybrid free-space-optical and radio-frequency communication systems in 2008; an improved DeepSort multi-target tracking algorithm paper at volume 41, number 2, pages 140 to 145, in 2021, carrying the DOI 10.16725/j.cnki.cn45-1351/tn.2021.02.009; quantitative-investment research on the new-energy industry at volume 44, number 1, pages 36 to 44, in 2024; and, reaching back, a generalisable degree-of-freedom formula paper in its 1984 first issue. An analysis of China's electronic-technology journal community, published in an IOP conference proceedings in 2020 using the Chinese S&T Journal Citation Reports, counted the Journal of Guilin University of Electronic Technology among that specialised community's titles. The pattern is consistent: a working electronics and information journal, publishing signal processing, communications, computer vision, control and applied mathematics from its own schools and from contributing institutions.

Student Competitions and Applied Character

GUET emphasises the cultivation of practical ability, and its students have won prizes in the National College Students Electronic Design Competition — including its highest award, the Sony Cup — the National Internet Plus competition, including a gold medal, and mathematical modelling contests. That applied, competition-driven culture is part of the journal's context: this is a university whose undergraduates build working electronic systems, whose faculty run industry-facing programmes in Beihai and Nanning as well as Guilin, and whose journal consequently leans toward implementable research — circuits that can be built, algorithms that can be run, instruments that can be measured — rather than purely theoretical electronics. Institutional accounts record 306 state-level research projects added in a recent five-year period, 2,060 papers published in SCI and EI sources and 112 academic books, the funded pipeline from which a home journal of electronic technology selects.

Guilin: Karst City, High-Tech Zone

The journal's setting is an unlikely pairing. Guilin is a world-famous scenic and historical city, its karst towers and the Li River known across the world, yet the university that publishes this journal sits in Guilin's national high-tech development zone and exists to staff an electronics industry. University materials describe cooperative relations with more than eighty universities and institutions along the Belt and Road and across Asia, Europe, the Americas, Oceania and Africa, recipient status for Chinese Government, Silk Road and Guangxi ASEAN scholarships, and a cooperative undergraduate project with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. For the journal, that means a contributor and reader community connected both to Guangxi's ASEAN-facing industry and to international electronics scholarship, edited from a tourist city in China's south-west rather than from the coastal electronics belt.

Identification and Verification

Precision matters for this title because China has several similarly named electronics universities. The attested record for the Journal of Guilin University of Electronic Technology is: Chinese title Guilin Dianzi Keji Daxue Xuebao; host founded in 1960, institute status in 1980, university name from 2006; citation-attested issues in 1984, 2008, 2017, 2021 and 2024 at volumes up to 44; and article DOIs under 10.16725/j.cnki.cn45-1351/tn, indicating CN 45-1351/TN, the Guangxi electronics category registration implied by that DOI pattern. No ISSN, editor-in-chief, founding year for the journal itself or stated issue frequency was attested in the sources consulted, and none is asserted here. It must not be confused with the journals of Xidian University in Xi'an, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in Chengdu, or Guilin University of Technology, a different Guilin institution.

Place in China's Electronics Publishing

China's electronic-technology journal community is concentrated in Beijing, Xi'an, Shanghai, Chengdu, Nanjing and Chongqing, as the IOP community study noted — which makes a long-running electronics journal from Guilin a regional outlier of real value. The Journal of Guilin University of Electronic Technology is the publication record of the south-west's electronic university: four decades of attested issues, from a 1984 mechanics-and-electronics institute journal to a 2024 volume carrying artificial-intelligence and new-energy research, rooted in one of the country's four electronic technology universities and in Guangxi's ASEAN-facing industry. For researchers of communications, signal processing, computer vision, mechatronics or the industrial development of Guangxi, it remains a relevant and verifiable source.
