About La Derecha Diario

La Derecha Diario

Overview

La Derecha Diario is an online newspaper based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, that publishes news and opinion journalism in Spanish and English. It is a digital-only publication, distributed free of charge through its website and, to an especially large extent, through social media. Its name translates as The Right Daily, and the name is an accurate guide to its position: the outlet reports and comments from an openly right-wing perspective, socially conservative and economically liberal, and it has been closely associated with Argentine President Javier Milei since the early stages of his political career.

Founded around 2020, La Derecha Diario grew from a small Argentine operation into a multi-country network in a short period. It is owned by Madero Media Group SRL, with ownership divided since 2024 between its Argentine founder, political consultant Fernando Cerimedo, and Spanish journalist and businessman Javier Negre, whose company Right News Media acquired a 50 percent stake that year. According to the Mexican edition of Forbes, the newspaper had about 30 million monthly readers in 2025. That reach, its proximity to political power, and a record repeatedly examined by fact-checkers have made it one of the most discussed new digital outlets in the Spanish-speaking world.

Founding Around 2020

La Derecha Diario was founded in Argentina around 2020 by Argentine journalists Juan Pablo Carreira and Ezequiel Acuña together with Fernando Cerimedo. It began as a digital-native project at a time when Argentina's established newspapers were themselves moving online, but it did not attempt to imitate their neutral tone or their general-interest breadth. From the start, it presented itself as an alternative voice on the right of a media landscape its founders considered dominated by progressive viewpoints.

The outlet's early scale was very small. When Javier Negre later described his first interest in the newspaper, he said he was surprised that it operated with a staff of only four people despite its substantial digital reach. That lean structure is characteristic of the model on which the paper was built: a small editorial team producing a high volume of short news items and opinion-driven content designed primarily for circulation on social platforms, rather than a large newsroom organized around original long-form reporting.

Founder Fernando Cerimedo

Fernando Cerimedo, the best known of the founders, is a political consultant specializing in digital communications as well as a media owner. He describes himself as a right-wing activist and is known in Argentina for his confrontations with media outlets and journalists associated with the political left. His career has moved between publishing and campaign work: he later served as a political consultant to Javier Milei's Argentine government and to the Brazilian government of Jair Bolsonaro in the field of digital communications.

That dual role, as both a campaign adviser and the owner of a news outlet supporting the same politicians, has been central to discussion of La Derecha Diario since its earliest years. Supporters present the arrangement as open political commitment rather than hidden bias: the paper does not claim to be impartial. Critics, including journalists at established Argentine newspapers such as La Nación, have argued that the boundary between campaign communication and journalism at the outlet is unusually thin. Cerimedo presented himself in 2023 as head of communications for Milei's presidential campaign, a campaign in which his own newspaper was simultaneously an active and supportive publisher.

Early Support for Javier Milei and the 2023 Campaign

La Derecha Diario was one of the few digital news outlets to openly support Javier Milei during the early stages of his political career, when the libertarian economist was still relatively little known in Argentina. As Milei's profile rose, the outlet's support continued, and in 2023 it played a significant role in his presidential campaign, amplifying his messages and attacking his opponents. Because of this repeated support, Milei publicly thanked the outlet on several occasions, and Chequeado has noted that its account became one of the accounts the president most frequently retweets.

The paper's campaign role was not confined to Argentina. It also played a significant role during the 2022 Brazilian general election, supporting President Jair Bolsonaro's campaign for re-election. That involvement brought legal consequences in Brazil: Cerimedo was the only foreign national accused by Brazilian authorities of collaborating in the attempted coup of 2023, allegedly through the dissemination of false news and information during the campaign, and Brazilian authorities ordered La Derecha Diario to be blocked throughout the country. In November 2023, the paper's Brazilian profiles on Twitter, Instagram and Telegram were suspended by Brazil's Superior Electoral Tribunal for disseminating disinformation about the Brazilian electoral system, according to Chequeado. In 2025, however, Brazilian prosecutors dropped all accusations against Cerimedo.

Editorial Line: Socially Conservative and Economically Liberal

Editorially, La Derecha Diario combines social conservatism with economic liberalism. It supports Javier Milei and his coalition, La Libertad Avanza, favors free-market economic policies, smaller government and lower public spending, and opposes progressive social policies. Academic research on the outlet's role in the 2023 Argentine campaign, published by Springer, characterized its content as amplifying the ideas of Milei's coalition, promoting traditional gender roles, and opposing comprehensive sex education, gender identity recognition and abortion rights, while criticizing state-funded gender-related initiatives as unnecessary ideological spending.

A large content analysis carried out by the data unit of the Colombian outlet La Silla Vacía, covering the network's posts on X, Instagram and its websites between January 1, 2025 and August 15, 2026, found three recurring narratives, reported by Factchequeado. The first presents the United States and its allies as leading a fight against a new axis of evil, naming Hamas, Iran, Hezbollah and Cuba. The second links left-wing politicians and governments to drug trafficking while presenting the right as fighting organized crime. The third, the most frequently repeated, holds that the right brings wealth and prosperity while the left brings poverty and insecurity. The same analysis found that indignation was the main emotion promoted in nine of the network's eleven accounts.

Ownership: Madero Media Group and the 2024 Negre Stake

La Derecha Diario is owned by Madero Media Group SRL. In August 2024, Spanish journalist and businessman Javier Negre, owner of the Right News Media conglomerate, which included EDATV and UHN Plus, traveled to Buenos Aires after exchanging messages with Milei on social media. Negre met with Cerimedo, and the two agreed that Right News Media would acquire a 50 percent stake in the newspaper, leaving ownership split evenly between Cerimedo and Negre's company.

Negre later explained that after arriving in Buenos Aires he became interested in La Derecha Diario because of its support for Milei and its influence on social media, and that he then met Juan Pablo Carreira and Cerimedo and offered to buy half the paper. Negre was already a prominent and controversial figure in Spain for his social media activity, which had resulted in several court judgments against him, a background widely reported in the Spanish press. His investment marked the point at which the Argentine outlet became part of a broader Spanish-language conservative media group rather than a standalone national project.

Audience and Social-Media Reach

La Derecha Diario is particularly active on social media, and social platforms are central to how its journalism reaches readers. In November 2025, Forbes México described the newspaper as one of the most popular digital media outlets in the Spanish-speaking market and reported that it had reached 30 million monthly readers. Forbes also dubbed Negre the king Midas of virality for his ability to generate large online audiences. El País, by contrast, reported that the paper's traffic came primarily through social media platforms such as X, rather than through its own website, a distinction that helps explain how an outlet with a very small original staff could claim an audience of that size.

The social-first model shapes the product itself. Headlines and posts are written for rapid sharing, political figures allied with the paper regularly amplify its content, and Milei's frequent sharing of its posts has been noted by Swissinfo and other outlets as a significant source of its visibility in Argentina. The paper maintains accounts on X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok and LinkedIn in addition to its website, and each country edition operates its own accounts under the same brand.

International Expansion

From its Argentine base, La Derecha Diario expanded into a network of country editions. Wikipedia lists a presence in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, the United States, Honduras, Israel, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay alongside Argentina, while the later joint investigation by Chequeado, Factchequeado and La Silla Vacía also counted a Spanish edition, describing a network operating in eleven countries. Each edition uses the national flag and covers local politics, which, as La Silla Vacía observed, makes each account appear to a local audience like a domestic outlet, even though the editions belong to a single transnational network.

The expansion continued at group level in October 2025, when it was announced that La Derecha Diario had acquired UHN Plus Media, a digital news outlet in which Negre had acquired a 50 percent stake in 2024, with the aim of forming a Spanish-language conservative media bloc. Negre was appointed vice president of the acquired outlet and became a partial owner. Factchequeado has described the resulting network, under Negre's leadership, as a digital bridge between the MAGA movement in the United States and Latin America.

The United States English-Language Edition

In June 2025, the newspaper launched an English-language edition in the United States. The edition declared itself supportive of Donald Trump and sought to attract the country's Hispanic community, publishing in both English and Spanish for that audience. According to Forbes México, the expansion was welcomed by members of Trump's political circle and received support from Trump digital strategist Alex Bruesewitz, owner of X Strategies, and from senior Trump adviser Danielle Álvarez, who had developed the Hispanic-media strategy for Trump's most recent presidential campaign.

The American move extended a pattern already visible in Argentina and Brazil: the outlet positions itself not simply as a foreign observer of a country's politics but as a participant aligned with one side of them. A few months after the United States launch, the paper's closeness to power also brought friction at home, when it became involved in a dispute between Milei and Vice President Victoria Villarruel, who in August 2025 filed a complaint against Negre alleging four offenses, as reported by Página/12.

Fact-Checking Record and Disinformation Disputes

La Derecha Diario has been accused on several occasions of disseminating disinformation and fake news, and fact-checking organizations have examined its output repeatedly. Those findings should be read as the attributed conclusions of the organizations that made them. Chequeado, Argentina's fact-checking outlet and a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network, documented a series of cases from 2022 and 2023. They included a false claim that the television channel C5N had published news of the September 2022 assassination attempt against then Vice President Cristina Kirchner before it happened, which Chequeado showed rested on a metadata time-zone error; material titled Brazil Was Stolen presenting alleged electronic voting irregularities as evidence of fraud, which Chequeado and Brazilian electoral authorities rejected; an edited debate clip presented as showing Bolsonaro leaving Lula speechless, which Chequeado rated false; and a shortened clip of President Joe Biden presented as evidence of a deepfake or body double, which Chequeado also rated false.

Chequeado also rated false a 2023 claim that Antarctica had grown by 5,305 square kilometres between 2009 and 2019 as a refutation of climate alarm, noting that the figure referred only to ocean ice shelves while the continent as a whole lost mass, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. It further found that a document on comprehensive sex education had been misinterpreted in claims about the sexualization of children, and that a September 2023 interview clip had been edited so that film director Juan José Campanella appeared to praise a candidate he had not been asked about. Asked about such cases in an earlier Chequeado investigation, Cerimedo dismissed the paper's disinformation as chiquilinadas, a term meaning childish pranks or trivialities, and in an October 2022 interview with Revista Noticias he acknowledged using what he called negative campaigning and troll farms.

Later investigations reached similar conclusions on a larger scale. Factchequeado reported that the paper's Mexico account repeatedly claimed that Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and her government were tied to drug trafficking, though, it noted, there is no evidence of this to date, and that editions in Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador and the United States had called her a narco-president or narco-communist. AFP Factual and Factchequeado have also published verifications correcting individual claims circulated by the network and its associated accounts. The outlet and its owners, for their part, present their work as political journalism in a cultural battle against the left, and its content continues to be widely shared by the political figures it supports.

Place in Argentine and Spanish-Language Media

In less than a decade, La Derecha Diario has moved from a four-person Argentine website to a claimed audience of 30 million monthly readers, editions across the Americas, Israel and Spain, an English-language presence in the United States, and direct proximity to presidents in more than one country. It illustrates a wider shift in Latin American media, in which small, ideologically committed, social-media-first outlets can achieve political influence far beyond the size of their newsrooms, operating simultaneously as publishers, campaign allies and participants in political disputes.

That same record explains why the paper remains controversial. Its supporters, including President Milei, who has publicly thanked it, treat it as a necessary counterweight to traditional media. Its critics, including fact-checkers at Chequeado and Factchequeado and journalists at newspapers such as La Nación and El País, point to its documented publication of false or edited material and to the overlap between its ownership and political consulting work. Both dimensions, the reach and the disputes, are essential to understanding what La Derecha Diario is: one of the most influential, and most contested, new voices in Spanish-language political media.
