About Marketing Mag

Marketing Mag

Overview

Marketing Mag is an Australian online news and commentary service for professional marketers, published by Niche Media Pty Ltd at marketingmag.com.au. It covers the practice of marketing rather than the advertising industry alone: brand strategy, content marketing, marketing technology and data, consumer behaviour and communications, with a strong emphasis on expert commentary written by working marketers, agency leaders and academics. In its own FAQ, the title states that Marketing Mag has rebranded to Content Marketing Mag, describing the relaunched publication as a source for B2B marketers who "shape ideas, inform brands and influence experiences – all through the prism of crafted content." The site continues to operate under the Marketing Mag name and branding at its long-established domain.

Unlike a general business title, Marketing Mag writes for practitioners. Its homepage mixes daily marketing news — campaign case studies, industry appointments, research findings and regulatory developments — with longer opinion and analysis pieces from contributors such as chief marketing officers, agency founders and university researchers. It is one of the longest-running specialist marketing publications in Australia, with a print heritage stretching back to 1994 and a digital presence that now carries the brand on its own.

History

The Marketing magazine title dates to 1994. That start date was recorded by New Zealand trade title StopPress in November 2019, when it reported that Marketing magazine Australia had closed its print production and moved to digital exclusively. Announcing the end of print, then editor Ben Ice said the changing media landscape had made the financial viability of print impossible, telling readers: "We wanted to bring you physical issues long into the future, but unfortunately it was no longer a realistic option." The magazine's quarter-century in print made it a fixture of the Australian marketing profession through the industry's transition from traditional advertising-led practice to digital, data-driven marketing.

Since 2019 the title has been digital-only, publishing through its website, email newsletters and social channels. Its archive shows continuous online publishing through the 2010s and into the 2020s, including daily marketing news coverage in 2012 and a steady flow of features, news and analysis in the years since. The rebrand to Content Marketing Mag, announced on the site's own FAQ page, repositioned the title around content marketing and the creative economy, spotlighting, in its words, "the brands, agencies and marketers redefining how businesses communicate." The relaunched title operates in tandem with Niche Content Agency, the publisher's in-house content division.

Content and Coverage

Marketing Mag's coverage is organised around the concerns of the modern marketing department. Its stated content pillars are technology and data — how marketers gather, understand and demonstrate the value of data amid rapid technological change; consumer behaviour — how people engage with brands, institutions, media and technology; and communications — how marketing departments create campaigns that are, in the site's words, "on message, on brand and guaranteed to hit the target." Its site sections include News, Featured long-form stories, and Social & Digital coverage.

Recent publishing illustrates the mix. In October 2026 the homepage carried an essay by Professor Rocky Scopelliti on AI and audience influence (14 October 2026), a piece by agency founder Sabri Suby on Australia's proposed social media algorithm opt-out (5 October 2026), and analysis of AI search and B2B content strategy, alongside case studies such as Mad Mex's loyalty program rebuild and commentary on crisis communications drawn from the Sydney Swans. News coverage through 2026 has included marketing appointments, campaign analysis, research releases and industry debate, published on a near-daily cadence.

Beyond articles, the title produces the MarCast podcast series, described as "going head to head with the sharpest minds in marketing," and in 2026 launched Content Unpacked, a long-form video podcast interview series presented by Niche Media and Content Marketing Mag, whose second episode appeared in August 2026. The publication also runs a Content Partner program, under which it collaborates with partners on content across its platforms, and the Marketing Advantage membership offering. In September 2026 it announced that Content Marketing Mag would be the official media partner for the CMO Summit 2027.

Audience and Reach

Marketing Mag is read by marketing professionals in Australia: in-house marketers and CMOs, agency strategists and creatives, and the technology and service providers who sell to them. Its contributor base — senior marketers, founders and academics writing for their peers — reflects that professional readership, and its coverage assumes a working knowledge of marketing practice rather than explaining the discipline to a general audience.

The publisher does not publish audited audience figures for the title, and none are claimed here. Its reach is instead evidenced by its longevity, its near-daily publishing cadence, its newsletter and podcast channels, and its role as a platform on which senior industry figures publish commentary under their own names. The title invites reader participation directly: it publishes submission guidelines for opinion articles and case studies, accepts event listings, and invites news tips about career movements and industry developments from its readership.

Digital Presence

The marketingmag.com.au website is the title's primary platform, carrying daily news, features and commentary, its podcast and video series, and information about its membership and partnership offerings. The site was publishing current material in October 2026, with new articles appearing several times a week and its category pages — including Social & Digital and Featured — updated through mid-October 2026. Readers can follow the title through its regular email newsletters and its LinkedIn presence, which the site promotes as a channel for keeping up with its coverage.

The digital-only model adopted in 2019 means the website, newsletters and podcasts together constitute the whole publication; there is no print edition. The site's FAQ also serves as its public contact and submissions hub, directing advertising, editorial and events enquiries to named members of the team.

Ownership and Organisation

Marketing Mag is published by Niche Media Pty Ltd, an independent Australian publisher. Niche Media describes itself as one of the most successful independent print publishers in Australia, with an end-to-end custom publishing operation spanning print, production, distribution, design, editorial and advertising sales, and a business that has expanded into digital media and events. In 2024, ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association, announced Niche Media as the new publisher of INCLEAN magazine, noting the company's 25-year history of media heritage and journalism in Australia; Niche's other trade platforms include Australian Design Review, inside magazine and Facility Management Media. The group also operates Niche Content Agency, which offers clients event management, video and podcast creation, social media activations and print and digital production, and which operates in tandem with Content Marketing Mag.

According to the title's own FAQ, the publisher of Marketing is Paul Lidgerwood. Editorial enquiries, including interview opportunities, opinion submissions, case studies and event information, are directed to Varun Godinho, and advertising enquiries to Media Partnerships Manager Parul Gupta.

Contact and Availability

Marketing Mag is available free online at marketingmag.com.au, where its news, features, podcasts and video interviews can be read and viewed without a paywall. The site invites editorial submissions and industry news tips through the contact points listed on its FAQ page, and marketers can follow its coverage through its email newsletters and LinkedIn. In keeping with this directory's policy, the structured business email field for this listing is left empty.
