The Marshall Independent is a newspaper published six days a week, Monday through Saturday, based in Marshall, Minnesota, serving southwest Minnesota. Covering Lyon, Lincoln, Redwood, and Yellow Medicine counties, it is the community newspaper of record for Marshall and the surrounding region.
Founded in 1875 as The Prairie Schooner, the paper has been called the Marshall Independent since 1974. For 150 years it has reported on local government, schools, business, sports, and community life across southwest Minnesota.
The newspaper is owned by Ogden Newspapers and is a recent Minnesota Newspaper Association General Excellence winner for daily newspapers.
