About Montana Standard

The Montana Standard is a daily newspaper based in Butte, Montana, serving Butte and southwestern Montana.

It descends from the Anaconda Standard, first published Sept. 4, 1889 and funded by copper king Marcus Daly. The Montana Standard was formed Sept. 12, 1928 by the merger of the Butte Miner with the Butte edition of the Standard.

Owned by the Anaconda Company until it sold its Montana newspapers to Lee Enterprises in 1959, the paper is headquartered at 25 West Granite Street, Butte.
