About Münchner Kirchenradio
Münchner Kirchenradio
Münchner Kirchenradio (MKR) is the Catholic radio of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising — "Radio mit Tiefgang": exciting topics for all who expect more from their radio, with current information, new food for thought and moving stories — the archdiocese's own station, the Tiefgang's promise, the more's radio — the Erzbistum's voice, the promise's depth, the radio's more. Operated by the Sankt Michaelsbund, the station has run as a web radio since November 2008 — and since 6 March 2014 on DAB+ in Greater Munich; in March 2022 the BLM media council granted the licence for the broadcast area "Oberland – Südostoberbayern", extending the coverage across the entire archdiocese on DAB+ channels 11C (Munich metro) and 7A (Voralpenland) — the November 2008's web launch, the 6 March 2014's DAB+, the March 2022's licence — the launch's Webradio, the DAB+'s Großraum, the licence's Sendegebiet. Since 2017 the MKR has additionally broadcast a daily live hour on Munich's FM 92.4 (13–14) — the 2017's FM hour, the 92.4's Munich middays, the live's 60 minutes — the year's FM, the frequency's local, the minutes' live. The Michaelsbund's radio editorial has supplied private radio stations in Bavaria with church and religion contributions since 1988 — eleven programme editorial offices receive current reports, background information and announcements; the Michaelsbund also acts on behalf of the Freising Bishops' Conference and the Archdiocese — the 1988's supplier tradition, the eleven's editorial offices, the Bischofskonferenz's mandate — the tradition's decades, the offices' programmes, the mandate's church. The supplied stations include Antenne Bayern, Radio Arabella, 95.5 Charivari, Radio Galaxy, BLR (the radio supplier of the Bavarian local programmes), Radio Alpenwelle, Bayernwelle SüdOst, Maximal Radio, Radio Oberland, Radio Charivari Rosenheim and Radio Top FM — the Antenne Bayern's statewide reach, the Charivari's Munich, the BLR's local programmes — the reach's Bavaria, the Munich's 95.5, the locals' supplier. Address: Herzog-Wilhelm-Str. 5, 80331 Munich. The music: 80s, 90s, adult contemporary — the Herzog-Wilhelm-Strasse's editorial home, the decades' warm soundtrack, the contemporary's calm — the address's Munich, the soundtrack's 80s and 90s, the calm's adult.
Overview
Münchner Kirchenradio broadcasts as the Catholic voice of the Munich-Freising archdiocese: web radio (since November 2008, on muenchner-kirchenradio.de and innehalten.de), DAB+ Greater Munich since 6 March 2014, and — since the BLM's March 2022 licence for "Oberland – Südostoberbayern" — across the entire Archdiocese of Munich and Freising on DAB+ channels 11C and 7A — the web's 2008, the DAB+'s 2014, the archdiocese's 2022 — the 2008's Webradio, the 2014's Sendeplatz, the 2022's Erzbistum. Since 2017 a daily live hour (13–14) airs locally on Munich's FM 92.4 — the täglich's Livestunde, the 92.4's Munich, the middays' hour — the daily's live, the Munich's 92.4, the hour's 13–14. The programme promise: "Radio mit Tiefgang" — current information, new food for thought, moving stories, sometimes thoughtful, sometimes with a wink, always worth listening to — plus the station's own podcasts — the Tiefgang's motto, the nachdenklich's thoughtful tone, the Augenzwinkern's wink — the motto's depth, the tone's reflection, the wink's charm.
The Michaelsbund's radio editorial has been the church's radio supplier since 1988: eleven programme editorial offices receive current reports, background information and Verkündigungen (announcements) from the fields of church and religion — the Michaelsbund acting also on behalf of the Freising Bishops' Conference and the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising.
History
The Sankt Michaelsbund — the Catholic media organization — has run a radio editorial since 1988, supplying private radio stations in Bavaria and the archdiocese with church contributions — the Michaelsbund's Catholic media, the 1988's Radio-Redaktion, the Bavaria's church voice — the media's Catholic, the Redaktion's radio, the voice's church. In November 2008 the Michaelsbund launched its own station: Münchner Kirchenradio as a web radio on muenchner-kirchenradio.de and innehalten.de — the November 2008's eigen Sender, the Webradio's launch, the innehalten.de's platform — the Sender's own, the launch's November, the platform's Innehalten. On 6 March 2014 a DAB+ slot in Greater Munich was added — the 2014's Sendeplatz, the Großraum München's DAB+, the digital's arrival — the Sendeplatz's 6 March, the Großraum's digital, the arrival's radio. Since 2017 the MKR has been heard daily on Munich's FM 92.4 with a live hour between 13 and 14 — the 2017's UKW hour, the 92,4's täglich, the 13-to-14's live — the hour's UKW, the täglich's live, the live's middays. At the end of March 2022 the BLM media council awarded the MKR the licence for the broadcast area "Oberland – Südostoberbayern" — expanding the coverage via DAB+ to the entire Archdiocese of Munich and Freising; since May 2022 the station broadcasts on channels 11C (Munich metro area) and 7A (Voralpenland) — the Medienrat's March 2022, the Sendegebiet's "Oberland – Südostoberbayern", the Mai 2022's 11C and 7A — the Medienrat's licence, the Sendegebiet's south-east, the Mai's channels.
Programming
The MKR programme offers exciting topics for all who expect more from their radio: current information, new food for thought and moving stories — sometimes thoughtful, sometimes with a wink, always worth listening to, as the station's self-description has it — the spannende Themen's promise, the Denkanstöße's food, the berührende Geschichten's heart — the Themen's excitement, the food's thought, the heart's stories. The music: 80s, 90s and adult contemporary — the 80s' classics, the 90s' hits, the adult contemporary's warmth — the classics' decades, the hits' nostalgia, the warmth's calm. The station's own podcasts — "mal nachdenklich, mal mit Augenzwinkern aber immer hörenswert" — extend the programme on demand — the hauseigenen Podcasts' charm, the nachdenklich's depth, the hörenswert's promise — the charm's own, the depth's reflection, the promise's listen.
The Michaelsbund's broader editorial work feeds the MKR's content: the television editorial produces church contributions, reports and religious magazines in cooperation with TV Bayern Live (RTL's state window) and "Kirche in Bayern", plus image films, special broadcasts and TV spots for church organizations, parishes and associations — and runs the mk-online.de channel on YouTube — the Fernsehredaktion's own productions, the TV Bayern Live's Landesfenster, the mk-online.de's YouTube. The online editorial coordinates the "Innehalten" platform, where the four editorial areas (print, radio, television and online) report comprehensively on church life in the archdiocese, foster dialogue, contribute to identity and enable participation in church life — the Innehalten's own platform, the four Redaktionsbereiche's coverage, the Dialog's fostering.
Organization and Ownership
Münchner Kirchenradio is operated by the Sankt Michaelsbund, the Catholic media organization of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising (board and editorial office details on michaelsbund.de) — the Michaelsbund's own operation, the katholische Medienorganisation's home, the Vorstand's stewardship. The radio editorial — supplying eleven programme editorial offices since 1988 — acts also on behalf of the Freising Bishops' Conference and the Archdiocese — the Radio-Redaktion's broad mandate, the Freisinger Bischofskonferenz's Auftrag, the Erzbistum's service. Voluntary traineeship positions are financed in part through donations — the Volontariatsstellen's valuable training, the Spenden's support, the future's investment. Detailed financial figures are not publicly confirmed in the sources consulted.
Digital Presence
The MKR is receivable via DAB+ with any digital radio or on the web — on the station's website muenchner-kirchenradio.de and on innehalten.de — the Digitalradio's DAB+, the Webseite's own stream, the innehalten.de's home. The online editorial also stocks several social media channels with editorial content — Facebook, Instagram and YouTube (mk-online.de) — and the station's own podcasts are "mal nachdenklich, mal mit Augenzwinkern aber immer hörenswert" — the Onlineteam's many channels, the sozialen Netzwerke's content, the Podcasts' charm. The web radio roots (since November 2008) live on today: the MKR as the archdiocese's digital voice, the "Radio mit Tiefgang" for every single platform.
