About MyCity Logan

MyCity Logan

Overview

MyCity Logan is a free weekly print newspaper covering the whole of the City of Logan, the local government area between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in south-east Queensland. Based at Waterford, in Logan's south, it is a family-owned paper founded and edited by Simon Holt and published by MyCity Media Pty Ltd. In its own masthead description, printed in its editions, "MyCity Logan is the only weekly newspaper covering the entirety of the City of Logan, distributing some 10,000 free copies through the local government area, encompassing 70 suburbs" — a claim the paper continued to print in its editions of October 2025. Copies are distributed through shopping centres, newsagents, coffee shops, clubs, service stations and other local outlets across the city.

The paper publishes a full digital edition of each issue online, and its website, mycitylogan.com.au, carries breaking news between print editions. MyCity Logan is the weekly flagship of its publisher's small stable of Logan titles: its sister publications, which began as separate local papers, now appear as monthly magazines under the "Suburban Life" name, while MyCity Logan itself has continued as a weekly newspaper — a status its managing director confirmed to the Public Interest Journalism Initiative's news-mapping project in 2025.

History

For most of its history, Logan's community newspaper coverage came from News Corp Australia's Quest Community Newspapers group. Quest's Albert & Logan News was the city's long-running title — in 2019 Quest's editor-in-chief referred to its 141-year tradition — and the Logan West Leader served the city's western suburbs. In June 2020 News Corp ended the print editions of its Quest titles across south-east Queensland: the Albert & Logan News moved to online-only publication and other Logan print titles ceased, leaving the city without a printed local newspaper.

MyCity Logan was founded by Simon Holt, a Waterford-based publisher, to serve the city as an independent, family-owned weekly. No public launch announcement for the paper has been located, and its exact founding date is not publicly documented; the earliest issue in the paper's own online archive of digital editions is dated 15 March 2022, and weekly editions continue unbroken in that archive through to 21 October 2025. By 2023 the paper was publishing weekly editions under the MyCity Logan masthead with its own reporting team, and house advertising in its 2025 editions promoted it alongside its sister titles in Logan's east and west and at Forest Lake.

In November 2024 the paper's publishing arrangements were reorganised. MyCity Media Pty Ltd was formed from the merger of Bendy Enterprises, publisher of the Logan West News, with the Holt family partnership, S Holt and S.J Holt, which published MyCity Logan. As part of that consolidation the group's smaller titles were converted into monthly magazines under the Suburban Life banner — Suburban Life Logan West, Suburban Life Logan East and The Lake News — while MyCity Logan continued as the group's weekly newspaper. In early 2026 the paper was still publishing weekly: the Beenleigh Yatala Chamber of Commerce reported in February 2026 that MyCity Logan had covered the return of its president, Kerrie Saverin, and in March 2026 the chamber welcomed the launch of a new Beenleigh edition of My City Logan, photographing the first edition of the new Beenleigh publication.

Programming and Content

MyCity Logan's editorial content is built around Logan's suburban communities. Its news pages carry crime and court reporting, such as charges arising from a shooting at Woodridge, council and planning coverage including the consultation over the city's new planning scheme, the Logan Plan, and environmental reporting on issues specific to the district, including flying-fox paralysis and the debate over gillnetting in the Logan and Albert rivers. Community organisations feature heavily: local chambers of commerce, clubs and sporting groups appear regularly in its pages, and the Beenleigh Yatala Chamber of Commerce's February and March 2026 reports of the paper's coverage illustrate its role as a chronicler of the city's business community.

The paper's named reporters include Emma Knuckey and Chris Manning, whose bylines appear across its news and features coverage. A typical weekly edition combines local news with service content familiar to Australian suburban newspapers, including a television guide, classified advertising and real-estate pages, together with display advertising from local businesses. Its editions also carry house advertisements for its publisher's sister magazines, reflecting its position within the MyCity Media stable.

Audience and Reach

MyCity Logan addresses the whole City of Logan, a city of 345,090 people at the 2021 census, spread across 70 suburbs between Brisbane, some 30 kilometres to the north, and the Gold Coast. The paper states in its own masthead that it distributes some 10,000 free copies throughout the local government area; that figure is the publisher's own and is not independently audited. Distribution is through local collection points rather than letterboxes alone: the paper names shopping centres including Marsden Park Shopping Centre and Logan Central and the Hyperdome information centre among the outlets through which copies are distributed, alongside newsagents, cafés, clubs and service stations.

Its publisher's masthead in a sister publication describes the group's titles as delivering "weekly, monthly & digital news to our readers in 3 cities covering 390,000+ residents" — again, a figure published by the group itself, covering its whole stable rather than MyCity Logan alone. The paper's significance lies less in raw numbers than in its position: since the closure of News Corp's Logan print titles in June 2020, it has been the city's only weekly printed newspaper, a claim it makes for itself in its own pages.

Digital Presence

MyCity Logan maintains a website at mycitylogan.com.au, which the paper promotes in its print editions as the home of its breaking news between weekly issues. Each weekly print edition is also published in full as a digital replica edition, hosted on the FlipHTML5 platform; the archive of those replica editions runs from 15 March 2022 through at least 21 October 2025, providing a continuous public record of the paper's weekly publication. The Logan Office of Economic Development has cited MyCity Logan stories published on its website, including a story dated 20 February 2025, as sources in its own publications.

Ownership and Organisation

MyCity Logan is published by MyCity Media Pty Ltd, a family-owned company based at Waterford in Logan's south. The company was formed in November 2024 through the merger of Bendy Enterprises and the family partnership S Holt and S.J Holt, the former publisher of MyCity Logan. Simon Holt is the company's managing director and is the paper's editor and founder, as its masthead records. The paper's staff named in its editions include reporters Emma Knuckey and Chris Manning and advertising representative Tracy Baird; the group's masthead in a sister publication also names a graphic designer, Francis Ian Parong.

Within the MyCity Media group, MyCity Logan is the weekly title. Its stablemates — Suburban Life Logan West, Suburban Life Logan East and The Lake News — are monthly magazines, converted from standalone newspapers during the group's 2024-25 consolidation. MyCity Logan is independent of the national publishing groups: it is not part of News Corp Australia, whose Quest titles previously served Logan, nor of Australian Community Media. Its expansion in March 2026, when a dedicated Beenleigh edition was welcomed by the Beenleigh Yatala Chamber of Commerce, indicates the paper continues to develop its coverage across the city under its current ownership.

Contact and Availability

MyCity Logan is a free newspaper, available weekly from distribution points including shopping centres, newsagents, coffee shops, clubs and service stations across the City of Logan's 70 suburbs, and each edition is also published in full online as a digital replica. The paper is based at Waterford and can be contacted by telephone on 0477 316 892. Editorial enquiries are directed to media@mycitylogan.com.au, the contact address published in the paper's own masthead. Its website, mycitylogan.com.au, carries breaking news between print editions. Weekly publication was confirmed by the paper's publisher to the Public Interest Journalism Initiative in 2025 and is corroborated by its dated editions through October 2025 and by local reporting of its coverage in February and March 2026.
