NIUS Radio — "Nius. Das Radio", "Die Stimme der Mehrheit" — is the radio arm of the news portal NIUS, the media company founded by former Bild editor-in-chief Julian Reichelt — the portal's audio arm, the Mehrheit's voice, the Reichelt's radio — the arm's audio, the voice's Mehrheit, the radio's bold Reichelt. Licensed by the Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg (MABB), the station started as an internet radio and has expanded rapidly across Germany's DAB+ landscape: since 17 July 2025 in the Saarland multiplex, from 15 August 2025 on Radio Holiday's former slots in Saxony and Thuringia, from 1 October 2025 in Lower Saxony, from October 2025 in Berlin (local mux channel 7B), Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, from January 2026 statewide in North Rhine-Westphalia, and from March 2026 in Hessen — the MABB's licence, the Internetradio's start, the DAB+'s expansion — the licence's Berlin-Brandenburg, the start's internet, the expansion's rapid Germany. Overview

NIUS Radio broadcasts as a nationwide full programme ("Hörfunkvollprogramm") with a focus on information and discourse: pop music combined with opinionated contributions and news under the slogan "Die Stimme der Mehrheit" — the Hörfunkvollprogramm's nationwide licence, the Popmusik's mix, the Mehrheit's Stimme. The licence promises at least one third word contributions; the hourly news comes from dpa; between 7 and 9 in the morning a self-produced, current live programme with longer word contributions is planned — the Drittels' Wortbeiträge, the stündlichen Nachrichten's dpa, the eigenproduziert's tagesaktuell mornings. The DAB+ footprint has grown fast: Saarland (9C) since 17 July 2025; Saxony and Thuringia since 15 August 2025 (taking over Radio Holiday's slots — Dresden 8C, Region Leipzig 10A, DAB Thüringen 12B); Lower Saxony since 1 October 2025 (NI EMSLAND K10C, NI OSNABRCK K8B, NI LUENEBURG K8B, NI WESERBLND K9C, NI NORDSEE K11A, NI GOETTNGN K7D, NI ALTESLAND K7B); Berlin (local mux 7B) since October 2025; Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein since October 2025; statewide North Rhine-Westphalia since January 2026; northern Hessen (6A) since 5 March 2026 and the Rhein-Main area (12C) since 9 March 2026 — the Saarland's 9C, the Sachsen's 8C and 10A, the Thüringen's 12B — the 9C's Saar, the 8C's Dresden, the 12B's proud Thüringen.

History

In a separate application process the MABB approved a radio programme with the name "Nius. Das Radio" from the same operating company that runs the NIUS news portal — the gesonderten Antragsverfahren's separate approval, the "Nius. Das Radio"'s bold name, the Betreibergesellschaft's portal. The radio programme started first as an internet radio. In early June 2025 the MABB granted the provider a slot in the local Berlin DAB mux channel 7B; the broadcast started in October 2025 — the Internetradio's humble start, the early June 2025's Berlin 7B, the October 2025's Sendestart. In September 2024 it had already become known that NIUS's operating company had applied for — and received — the licence for a nationwide television niche programme from the MABB; hourly television broadcasts are transmitted on the station's website and on YouTube — the September 2024's Fernsehspartenprogramm, the Zulassung's nationwide reach, the stundenweise's hourly Fernsehsendungen.

On 15 August 2025 NIUS Radio replaced Radio Holiday on DAB+ in Saxony and Thuringia — the previous slots were taken over — the 15 August's swift replacement, the Radio Holiday's exit, the Sendeplätze's takeover. On 1 October 2025 the station went on air in several Lower Saxony multiplexes as part of the DAB+ network expansion (with three new transmission sites) — the 1 October's grand Aufschaltung, the Netzausbau's Niedersachsen, the three's Senderstandorte. In October 2025 the launch followed in Berlin, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein; in January 2026 statewide in North Rhine-Westphalia — the October's northern launch, the January's NRW, the landesweit's expansion. The Hessen assembly of the Medienanstalt Hessen paved the way in mid-December 2025 for a statewide DAB+ distribution — a ten-year allocation from 1 January 2026 to the end of 2035 in the two regional networks (North Hessen on channel 6A, the south on channel 12C), taking over capacities freed by Radio Vidovdan's switch-off — the Mitte Dezember's Versammlung, the zehn Jahre's long Zuweisung, the Radio Vidovdan's Abschaltung.

Organization and Ownership

NIUS Radio is operated by the VIUS SE & Co. KGaA, Berlin — the media company behind the NIUS news portal, headed by former Bild editor-in-chief Julian Reichelt — the VIUS's KGaA, the portal's NIUS, the former Bild chief's Reichelt leadership. The radio licence was granted by the Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg; the Hessen capacities were allocated to the VIUS SE & Co. KGaA as organizer for ten years (2026–2035) — the MABB's Zulassung, the Hessen's generous Zuweisung, the Veranstalterin's decade. Digital Presence

NIUS Radio started as an internet radio and remains distributed via internet alongside the DAB+ expansion — the programme is receivable via the NIUS website nius.de and stream — the Internetradio's humble roots, the nius.de's home, the stream's internet.
