About Radio PSR
Radio PSR
Radio PSR (styled RADIO PSR; PSR stands for "Privater Sächsischer Rundfunk" — Private Saxon Broadcasting) is a private broadcaster in Saxony under the slogan "Der Supermix für Sachsen" ("The supermix for Saxony"). After 1990 it was the first private operator to be assigned a broadcasting licence by the Saxon media authority (SLM); the first broadcast went out from Leipzig on 1 July 1992 — the first song played was "Wer die Rose ehrt" by Renft (1972). Based in Leipzig (since 2005 at Thomasgasse 2), the owner is the Privater Sächsischer Rundfunk GmbH; managing director Rainer Poelmann, programme director Torsten Birenheide. Presenters include Steffen Lukas and Hajo Wilken; from 1995 to 1998 the duo Böttcher & Fischer hosted the morning show and boosted ratings. The station is owned by Regiocast.

The First Private Licence in Saxony
After 1990 Radio PSR was the first private operator to be assigned a broadcasting licence by the Sächsische Landesmedienanstalt (SLM) — a milestone for the new federal state of Saxony. On 1 July 1992 the station's first broadcast went out from Leipzig, opening with "Wer die Rose ehrt" by the East German rock band Renft (1972) — a deliberate nod to Saxon music history. The station was based in Leipzig, moving in 2005 from Delitzscher Straße to new premises at Thomasgasse 2. The owner is the Privater Sächsischer Rundfunk GmbH; the station belongs to Regiocast, one of Germany's largest private radio groups. Managing director Rainer Poelmann and programme director Torsten Birenheide lead the station, whose presenters include Steffen Lukas and Hajo Wilken (former presenters include Diana Schell).
Böttcher & Fischer and the Morning Boost
From 1995 to 1998 the duo Böttcher & Fischer hosted the morning show and boosted the station's audience — the kind of personality-driven morning programme that defined 1990s German private radio. The station's slogan, "Der Supermix für Sachsen" ("The supermix for Saxony"), captures its broad AC appeal for the Free State. In January 1998 the station founded mir. marketing im radio GmbH & Co. KG, which handles advertising, events, websites and new media for Radio PSR, R.SA and Energy Sachsen — the marketing arm of the Regiocast stations in Saxony. In January 2001 a new subsidiary followed: SNN – Sachsen News Net GmbH, a content service provider.
The Regiocast Network in Saxony
Radio PSR broadcasts on FM across Saxony — Dresden 102.4 MHz, Leipzig 102.9 MHz (Wiederau), Chemnitz 100.0 MHz (Geyer), Oschatz 98.0 MHz (Collmberg), Lausitz 101.0 MHz (Löbau), Vogtland 92.0 MHz (Schöneck) — and statewide on DAB+ (Leipzig channel 10A, Chemnitz 8A, Dresden 7A), via cable and worldwide livestream. As part of Regiocast it sits in a network with R.SA and Energy Sachsen, sharing the mir. marketing arm and the SNN news service — Saxony's private-radio trio under one roof.
The First Private Station in the New Federal States
RADIO PSR — "Privater Sächsischer Rundfunk" — received the first private broadcasting licence in Saxony from the Sächsische Landesmedienanstalt after 1990, and made its first broadcast from Leipzig on 1 July 1992. The first song it ever played was "Wer die Rose ehrt" by the East German rock band Renft (1972) — a nod to its audience's musical memory. From 1995 to 1998 the morning duo Böttcher & Fischer drove the ratings upward; in 2005 the station moved from Delitzscher Straße to new premises at Thomasgasse 2 in Leipzig. The slogan is "Der Supermix für Sachsen" ("The supermix for Saxony"): a varied full programme of entertainment, music and regional service — current hits, regular news, weather and traffic, plus comedy formats. According to the Media Ownership Monitor, the station reaches around 950,000 listeners daily with over 15.9 million weekly contacts, making it one of Saxony's highest-reach private stations. The owner is Privater Sächsischer Rundfunk GmbH, part of the Regiocast group; managing director Rainer Poelmann, programme director Torsten Birenheide. Presenters include Steffen Lukas — whose comedy formats have won multiple Deutscher Radiopreis awards — and longtime newsreader Hajo Wilken; former presenter Diana Schell is among the alumni.
A Saxon Media House
Radio PSR grew into more than a station: in January 1998 it founded "mir. marketing im radio" GmbH & Co. KG, handling advertising, events, websites and new media for Radio PSR, R.SA and Energy Sachsen; in January 2001 came the content-services subsidiary SNN – Sachsen News Net GmbH. The station is receivable statewide: Dresden 102.4 MHz, Leipzig (Wiederau) 102.9, Chemnitz (Geyer) 100.0, Oschatz (Collmberg) 98.0, Lausitz (Löbau) 101.0 and Vogtland (Schöneck) 92.0 MHz, plus DAB+ (Leipzig 10A, Chemnitz 8A, Dresden 7A). Leipzig's radio history runs deep — the MIRAG began broadcasting from the city in March 1924, and the MDR's predecessor operated from the Funkhaus in Springerstraße — but PSR was the first to give reunified Saxony a private voice of its own. As part of Regiocast — alongside R.SH, Radio Bob, delta radio, Radio SAW and others — it belongs to one of Germany's largest private-radio families while remaining unmistakably Saxon.
30 Years of "Sachsen sendet selbst"
On 1 July 2022 RADIO PSR turned 30: exactly three decades after the first private programme of the "new federal states" went on air at noon, when the then programme director Jürgen Vogel greeted listeners with "Liebe Hörer, ab heute sind Sie wieder zu Hause" (dear listeners, from today you are home again). The first song played was Wer die Rose ehrt by Renft, from 1972. Under the launch slogan "Sachsen sendet selbst" (Saxony broadcasts itself) the station showed its close bond with the new Free State of Saxony from the start; the ad hoc 30-person founding team had as little radio background as the Saxons had with their new federal state, and quickly became part of the Free State — finding its first home in a former garage of a car business. Milestones followed: Steffen Lukas became world champion in marathon presenting in 1993, Böttcher & Fischer reinvented the morning show, listeners flew with their children to Santa Claus in the far north, and first market leaderships were celebrated — plus German Radio Awards and SLM awards for the station's work. In 2005 the station moved from Delitzscher Straße to Thomasgasse 2 in Leipzig. The managing director is Rainer Poelmann, the programme director Torsten Birenheide; among the presenters are Steffen Lukas and Hajo Wilken. Reception: Dresden 102.4, Leipzig 102.9, Chemnitz 100.0, Oschatz 98.0, Lausitz 101.0 and Vogtland 92.0 MHz, plus DAB+ in Leipzig (10A), Chemnitz (8A) and Dresden (7A). The owner is the Privater Sächsischer Rundfunk GmbH.
