Established in 1907 as the Evening Journal by 19-year-old Harry F. Byrd, later a U.S. senator and governor of Virginia, the newspaper was sold to H. C. Ogden in 1923 and has been part of Ogden Newspapers ever since.
Renamed The Journal in 1993, it continues to serve readers across the Eastern Panhandle.
