Founded in 1896 by brothers Frederick Barlow Currey and George H. Currey, the Observer has covered northeastern Oregon for well over a century, reporting on local government, schools, business, agriculture, and community life. Its print edition was suspended in June 2024, and it continues as a digital daily.
The Observer is owned by Carpenter Media Group, which acquired it with EO Media Group in October 2024, and maintains its offices in La Grande, Oregon.
