The paper was formed on December 2, 1907, through the merger of the Wilkes-Barre Times and the Wilkes-Barre Leader.
It was sold to Avant Publications, a joint venture of Champion Media and MIDTC, in 2019. The Times Leader publishes a seven-day print product, with its headquarters at 90 E Market St in Wilkes-Barre.
