About TV Hebdo

TV Hebdo

Overview

TV Hebdo is a French-language weekly television magazine published in Montreal by TVA Publications, the magazine division of Groupe TVA (Quebecor). Published every week since August 1960, it is Quebec's television guide of record: each issue prints the week's channel listings for television services available in Quebec together with plot summaries of series and téléromans, daily viewing recommendations, sports-event listings, show-business columns, a cinema section and lifestyle material. Remarkably for a print TV guide in the streaming era, TV Hebdo still publishes in print on a full weekly schedule — its 2026 volume, Vol. 67, reached No. 43 with the issue dated October 17, 2026 — alongside a listings website at tvhebdo.com and digital editions. It is unrelated to the French magazine of the same name, published by Lagardère from 1987 until it was absorbed into TV Magazine in 2009.

History

TV Hebdo's first issue appeared in August 1960, at the moment French-language television in Quebec was about to expand: Télé-Métropole, the broadcaster that became TVA, was preparing its first broadcasts (CFTM-TV signed on in February 1961). According to TVA Publications' own 60th-anniversary retrospective, published in 2021, the cover of the very first issue featured René Lévesque, who had just left Radio-Canada's public-affairs program Point de mire to enter politics, twenty years before the 1980 sovereignty referendum. The magazine became, in the retrospective's words, "le compagnon incontournable des foyers québécois" — the essential companion of Quebec households — as téléromans became a shared national conversation. The title's ownership changed in the 2000s: Transcontinental had acquired a 50 percent share in TV Hebdo when it bought Telemedia's magazine division in 2000, while the other 50 percent was held by Trustar, by then owned by Groupe TVA. In November 2006, Adnews reported that Transcontinental would sell its interest to Les Publications TVA, making TV Hebdo wholly owned by TVA Publications. The magazine was redesigned in January 2013 ("TV Hebdo fait peau neuve," Le Journal de Montréal, January 9, 2013); its visual identity had already been renewed twice before, with logos used from 1960 to 1966, from 1966 to 1996 and from 1996 to 2013. In TVA Publications' catalogue the title has been listed together with a companion listings title, TV 7 jours. Its publisher, TVA Publications, descends from Trustar, founded in 1989 by Claude J. Charron, acquired by Groupe TVA in 2000 for $46 million, and merged with Quebecor's Publicor in 2002.

Content and Coverage

The core of each weekly issue is the grille horaire — the day-by-day, channel-by-channel listings for the television services available to Quebec viewers — but the magazine has always been more than a grid. As its publisher describes it, TV Hebdo provides detailed descriptions of the plots of readers' favourite series and téléromans, a daily review of programs not to miss, and a list of the week's major sporting events. Around the listings it wraps show-business columns from Quebec and abroad, interviews with actors and hosts, a complete cinema section, recipes, and columns on beauty, health, travel and leisure, including the household tips of its long-running "Madame Chasse-taches" feature. A January 2026 issue's daily picks ranged across specialty channels such as CASA, TV5, Planète+ and addikTV, and its sports pages tracked the Montreal Canadiens' NHL schedule alongside AHL, NFL and tennis coverage, which gives a sense of the grid's breadth; its "Buzz télé" column follows plot developments in current Quebec series such as Les Armes, while feature writers are sent out on stories as un-television-like as a visit to a Lanaudière cabbage farm for the food series Du Québec au ventre, covered in the June 27, 2026 issue. Current story coverage on its website follows Quebec television closely — recent headlines covered the Radio-Canada/TVA drama landscape, including the series STAT, Antigang and new casting announcements — and the print magazine's interviews, such as its April 2026 encounter with actor Luc Senay, keep the focus on the people Quebec viewers watch every week. The cultural weight of that coverage is a matter of record: TVA Publications' 60th-anniversary retrospective describes how, from the 1960s onward, the destinies of téléroman characters were discussed in Quebec homes "comme s'ils faisaient partie de notre famille" — as if they were members of the family — and TV Hebdo was the printed companion to that shared ritual, adjusting its content across six decades, in the retrospective's words, as a reflection of Quebec society seen through the programs its audience watched together.

Audience and Reach

TV Hebdo addresses the mass French-language television audience of Quebec, a market in which it has been present, in its own publisher's phrase, "depuis plus de 50 ans" and which it calls "LA référence en matière de magazine télé." No current audited circulation or readership figure for the title could be verified from public sources relied on for this profile, and none is asserted: Quebec magazine readership measurement for individual TVA titles is published to advertisers rather than in open sources. What can be stated from the verifiable record is the magazine's longevity and continuity — an unbroken weekly run from 1960 to the present volume, Vol. 67 in 2026 — and its place inside one of Quebec's largest magazine portfolios: TVA Publications' catalogue has been described as more than 40 titles, including 7 jours, Échos Vedettes, Clin d'œil, Chez-soi and Le Lundi, published alongside the TVA television network and Quebecor's newspapers, which gives TV Hebdo distribution and promotional reach across the group's media properties.

Digital Presence

TV Hebdo's website, tvhebdo.com, is a listings service in its own right: visitors can consult the television grid, save favourite channels and favourite programs, follow friends' favourite shows, consult a chart of internet users' top programs and receive recommendations, and read the magazine's entertainment journalism, with the homepage carrying current stories about Quebec series and personalities. The print magazine is also sold in digital form — Zinio carries the complete 2026 weekly run (Vol. 67), and library platforms such as OverDrive list the title for digital lending (it appears, for example, in the Austin Public Library's OverDrive magazine catalogue in the United States) — and subscriptions, including to the digital edition, are sold through TVA Publications' online boutique. The combination of a weekly print edition, digital editions and a functional listings site means the brand operates on all three channels that remain open to a television guide in 2026.

Ownership and Organisation

TV Hebdo is published by TVA Publications inc., the magazine publishing subsidiary of Groupe TVA inc., itself part of Quebecor. Groupe TVA's corporate lineage runs directly back to Télé-Métropole Corporation, incorporated in 1960 — the same year TV Hebdo was launched — and renamed Groupe TVA in 1998; its head office is at 1600 boulevard de Maisonneuve Est in Montreal. TVA Publications' own offices, as given in its online boutique's terms of sale, are at 612 rue Saint-Jacques, Montreal (Quebecor's head office address). The magazine is produced in Montreal by TVA Publications' editorial teams alongside the group's other consumer titles.

Contact and Availability

TV Hebdo is published weekly and is available on newsstands across Quebec, by print subscription, and in digital editions through Zinio and library platforms. Its listings website is tvhebdo.com. Subscription sales and service for TVA Publications titles are handled through the TVA Publications online boutique: TVA Publications inc., 612 rue Saint-Jacques, Montréal, QC H3C 4M8, with a subscription service line at 1-888-535-8634 and subscription enquiries by email to abomag@tva.ca. The current print volume is Vol. 67 (2026), published weekly throughout the year.
