About WellBeing Magazine
WellBeing Magazine
Overview
WellBeing is an Australian magazine devoted to natural health and conscious living, published in print and digital editions by the Universal WellBeing Group at Universal Media Co in Sydney. Appearing six times a year, it covers natural therapies, nutrition, mind and emotional health, sustainable living, natural beauty, wellness travel and the home, in long-form features written, in its publisher's words, to inform, entertain and enthuse people who have chosen to take steps towards natural health and natural living. The magazine describes itself as "Australia's original guide to conscious living", and its current digital storefront blurb says it has been inspiring readers for over 30 years. Its website, wellbeing.com.au, publishes new editorial daily, and the print title had reached issue 224 by late 2026, confirming the magazine as one of the longest-running titles in Australian wellness publishing.
History
WellBeing's own 200th-issue retrospective, published in 2022, looked back over 33 years of reporting on topics ranging from climate change and mental health to emotional intelligence and conscious living, which places the magazine's origins in the late 1980s. It built its position as natural health moved from the margins into the mainstream: its publisher has described it as Australia's most successful natural health magazine for more than 20 years, a claim carried in its subscription marketing since at least the early 2010s, when issue 147 appeared in 2013. Through that period the magazine was edited by Danielle Kirk, whose tenure is recalled in the 200th issue by a successor who had joined as the magazine's first intern in 2013. Terry Robson served as editor-in-chief in the late 2010s, named in that role in the publisher's 2019 readership announcements, while the magazine's current website names Kate Holland as editor. Kate Duncan, who began at the title as an intern and editorial assistant, went on to edit its spin-off WellBeing WILD.
Under Universal Media Co the brand has repeatedly extended beyond the flagship magazine. In 2018 the WellBeing Media Group began delivering corporate wellness packages to large organisations under the name WellBeing GROW, and in September 2019 it launched WellBeing WILD, a sister magazine edited by Kate Duncan and devoted to reconnecting readers with nature, sold in newsagencies, airport retail and Coles stores in Australia and New Zealand. The group has also produced special editions and bookazines — deep-dive, single-topic volumes such as WellBeing Create Your Dream Life — and in 2020 it staged the inaugural WellBeing Be-YOU-T Awards, billed as Australia's only natural beauty awards program, with winners voted on by readers. A stationery range and a digital portal rounded out the brand's 2019 footprint, according to the publisher.
Content and Coverage
The website organises its coverage under the strands Body, Food, Home, Look, Mind, Roam and Work, and the print magazine follows the same philosophy of expert-led, comprehensively researched features. Body coverage spans natural therapies, yoga and movement — recent online features have ranged from bioenergetic movement practice and chair-based yoga for older readers to veterinary integrative care written by a practising vet. Food content is built around wholefood recipes and nutrition explainers, from coconut-based recreations of classic chocolate bars to guides on supplement use. Mind coverage takes in psychology and emotional health, including advice columns on adult ADHD diagnosis and explorations of grief and the brain.
Signature franchises recur across print and online editions. Paradigm Shifters spends ten minutes with people shaping ideas for the future — a recent instalment profiled farmer and scientist Anika Molesworth — while Soul Stories carries first-person accounts of healing and change, and the travel writing under Roam favours soulful, place-based journeys, from candlelit Kathmandu streets to the Shoalhaven region of New South Wales. Real-life reader experiences are a staple: a recent feature followed a reader's return to exercise through a class designed for breast cancer patients. The publisher stresses that the magazine only publishes articles that are comprehensively researched and written by experts in the field, and the mix of practitioners — aromatherapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, nutritionists — across its pages supports that positioning. Product testing is also part of the mix, with editorial trials of kitchen products, office gear and skincare routines.
Audience and Reach
WellBeing addresses readers — predominantly women, in its publisher's characterisation — who are actively interested in natural health, and the publisher positions its reader as an influential adviser within her circle on health matters. The most recent independently produced readership figures the publisher has publicised come from its 2019 announcement reporting the Roy Morgan readership results for the twelve months to December 2018, which put WellBeing at 135,000 readers, with the rival EMMA measurement putting it slightly higher at 151,000 for the same period; both figures are dated and are presented here as the publisher reported them. No current audited readership or circulation figure is published for the title. The WellBeing Media Group reported a social media footprint of more than 75,000 followers and inbox media reaching over 30,000 users in 2019, again on the publisher's own account, and the title's social handle is @WellBeing_Mag. Its reach is also evidenced by distribution: print copies are sold through newsagents, supermarkets and airport retail in Australia and New Zealand, and digital editions are sold worldwide through Pocketmags and Zinio.
Digital Presence
WellBeing's website is a daily publishing operation rather than a magazine showcase: wellbeing.com.au carried new features dated through October 2026 at the time of writing, spanning recipes, health explainers, interviews and travel. The site runs competitions, a newsletter subscription and an editor's selection of books, podcasts and apps, and it archives years of features from the print title. Digital subscriptions are sold via Pocketmags — issue 224 was the current edition offered there in late 2026, priced at $9.99 for a single digital issue or $37.99 for an annual digital subscription of six issues — and through Zinio, which carries the back catalogue past issue 200. WellBeing WILD has its own presence within the publisher's digital network, and the group's bookazines are sold as digital editions through the same platforms.
Ownership and Organisation
WellBeing is published by the Universal WellBeing Group, part of Universal Media Co, an independently owned private Australian company based in Sydney's Macquarie Park. Universal describes itself as Australia's largest publisher of targeted media, specialising in helping marketers reach defined audiences through print and online media; its boilerplate of recent years has counted 53 magazine brands across home, craft, bike and lifestyle categories, plus a portfolio of niche web portals, and it owns the Australian Publishing Company and Universal Online Media. Janice Williams has been the publisher of WellBeing and head of the WellBeing group through its recent brand expansion, fronting its readership and awards announcements in 2019 and 2020, while Emma Perera was identified by industry coverage as the company's future chief executive. Editorially, the magazine today is led by editor Kate Holland, whose biography on the magazine's own site credits her with more than ten years of editorial experience across print and digital publications; past editors include Danielle Kirk in the mid-2010s and Terry Robson as editor-in-chief later that decade.
