About Social360

Social360

Social360 is a London online reputation and media monitoring company that tracks news and social content for corporate and institutional clients. Founded in 2008, it searches online conversation in any language across social media platforms, blogs, forums, discussion boards and online comments, and turns what it finds into intelligence that brands, public relations agencies and their advisers can act on. Its chief executive and co-founder, Ryszard Bublik, came to the business from investment banking and international public relations, and the founding proposition — flexible online monitoring for major brands and PR agencies — reflects that advisory background: Social360 was built not as a self-service software toy but as a professional monitoring service for organisations whose reputations can be damaged in an afternoon. In February 2024 it was acquired by Signal AI, the London reputation and risk intelligence company.

Founded in 2008, as social media became a reputational risk

The founding date explains much about Social360. In 2008, social media was ceasing to be a curiosity: Twitter, Facebook, blogs and forums had become places where product faults, executive missteps, rumours and campaigns first surfaced, often hours or days before they reached conventional news. Communications advisers who had built careers managing print and broadcast coverage suddenly needed eyes on a conversation that never slept, in many languages at once. A profile of Bublik published by The Org describes the recognition behind the company: seeing the critical insight held in online conversation, he was part of the team that founded Social360 in 2008 to provide flexible online monitoring to major brands and agencies. The company has been based in London since, with its corporate office recorded at Chester House on Fulham High Street, and it later developed a New York presence as its client base internationalised.

The founders: from Nomura and Brunswick to monitoring

Social360 was co-founded by Ryszard Bublik, its chief executive, and Robert Herridge, its chief technology officer — a pairing of communications adviser and technologist that shaped the company's service model. Bublik brings more than twenty years of communications advisory experience to the business. He started his career in investment banking with Nomura before moving to Brunswick, the international public relations consultancy known for advising large companies on their most sensitive corporate and financial situations. That career path — capital markets first, then strategic communications — is unusually well matched to reputation monitoring, combining an understanding of how investors and markets react to information with an understanding of how narratives form and spread. A monitoring service led from that background is designed for the moments when online conversation becomes a market or political event: a viral claim about a product, a campaign against a company, a crisis in which the first draft of public opinion is written on social platforms before any newsroom publishes.

What the service monitors

PR Week's description of the platform summarises its scope: Social360 can search in any language across all social media platforms, blogs, forums, discussion boards and online comments. Each element answers a real monitoring problem. Social platforms are where conversation is fastest; blogs carry the longer critiques campaigns are built from; forums are where specialist communities develop narratives that later surface in journalism; and online comments show how published stories are landing with readers. The scale behind that scope became public at the time of the Signal AI acquisition: its systems analysed billions of pieces of online content from more than 90 million sources, including social content, political and regulatory material and emerging alternative platforms. Its premium source list alone — online voices judged capable of directly affecting an organisation's reputation — delivered more than 2.3 million relevant articles from over 185,000 sources each month.

How the service works: technology plus human analysts

Social360's model combines proprietary technology with human editorial judgement. Its systems scan and harvest vast online datasets, with searches constantly refined to each client's requirements; experienced communications teams then edit and prioritise what the technology collects, spotting trends and identifying influencers before delivering curated insight. The emphasis, in the company's own descriptions, is on accuracy and relevance — hand-picked critical intelligence rather than raw mention counts. Bublik has described the practical problem the service solves: time-poor clients need to know what is being said about their brand or organisation wherever it appears on the social web, in a format that works for them — by email, through a dashboard, in real time, or through edited, scheduled reports. That analyst-led approach distinguishes the firm from self-service listening tools: the technology gathers at machine scale, but communications professionals decide what matters.

Products: reports, alerts, audits and due diligence

The service is delivered as a set of intelligence products rather than a single dashboard. Company profiles list daily intelligence reports, automated influencer alerts, presence and conversation audits, and detailed analytics among its core offerings — a mix designed to help clients frame and adjust their communication strategy. Among the specialist capabilities that transferred to Signal AI were a corporate influencer monitoring tool and pharmaceutical-sector monitoring, both areas where individual voices and regulated discussion carry outsized weight. Social360 also offered a social due diligence service, producing reports on individuals or companies by analysing their online social media activity — applying the same monitoring machinery to vetting and risk assessment rather than brand tracking. Together, these products show a firm selling answers to defined professional questions — what is being said, by whom, and whether it matters — rather than selling access to data alone.

Clients: brands, agencies and institutions

The founding description specifies the clientele: some of the world's biggest brands and communications consultancies, a positioning repeated in later company summaries describing Social360 as working with leading global brands and PR firms. The agency side of that pairing is significant. Public relations consultancies embed monitoring in their client work — tracking campaigns, evaluating coverage and providing early warning — so a provider serving agencies must be flexible enough to fit many briefs at once, which is precisely the flexibility the founders set out to build. Institutional and corporate clients use the service in a different register: crisis support, risk mitigation and reputation analysis at board level, including during major crises when the online conversation moves fastest. Its client base across the USA, EMEA and APAC reflects how far the reputations it tracks extend beyond its London base.

News and social, tracked together

A distinguishing point in Social360's positioning is that it tracks news content alongside social content rather than treating them as separate worlds. That combination reflects how reputational stories actually develop. A claim may begin as a post, be amplified in forums, be picked up by a trade title or a national newspaper, and then be re-argued in the comments beneath that coverage and across the platforms again — each stage changing the audience and the stakes. A service watching only social channels misses the moment a story gains the authority of publication; one watching only news misses where the story came from and where it is heading. For clients calibrating whether an issue is a social-media squall or a developing news story, that joined-up view is the practical core of the service, aligning Social360 with the media-monitoring tradition as much as with social-listening software.

The Dods investment of 2017

In November 2017, Dods — the political intelligence and publishing group long established in Westminster monitoring — acquired a 30 per cent stake in Social360, with a contractual option to purchase the balance of the shares within the following two to three years. Announcing the deal, Dods' chairman Cheryl Jones welcomed a team led by co-founders Bublik and Herridge and pointed to the fit with the changing requirements Dods saw in its market. For Social360, the partnership made it the engine behind Dods' social media monitoring offering and opened investment in its core technology, new products and new markets. Bublik framed the logic in terms of volume: as reputation-critical social content kept growing, outsourcing social listening was becoming the norm, and clients needed the right partners to deliver it. The investment linked a young monitoring specialist to one of the oldest names in British political information services.

Acquisition by Signal AI in 2024

On 15 February 2024, Signal AI announced its acquisition of Social360, for an undisclosed sum. Signal AI, also headquartered in London, specialises in reputation and risk intelligence, and the deal integrated Social360's traditional, social, regulatory and alternative data sources into a unified platform alongside Signal's premium media data. The logic ran both ways: Signal gained Social360's online coverage and specialist services, while Social360's monitoring became part of a platform serving C-suite decision-makers. Bublik, still chief executive at the time of the deal, said the combination would create a business with a 360-degree view of online content across every channel, giving clients visibility of the issues that matter for reputation and risk. The acquisition closed a sixteen-year independent run for Social360 — an outcome few of the monitoring tools launched alongside it in the late 2000s achieved.

Why Social360 matters

The modern news cycle begins online: stories break in posts, are argued over in forums and comments, and reach broadcast and print already framed by that conversation. Organisations that feature in the news need to see that process as it happens, in every language their stakeholders speak. Social360 was founded at the moment that need became obvious, by a team drawn from the advisory world that felt it first, and it supplied London's brands, agencies and institutions with that early sight for a decade and a half before its acquisition by Signal AI. For this directory it represents the monitoring wing of the news-services industry — firms that do not publish the news, but make sure their clients are never the last to know what the news is saying about them.
