NEP India
NEP India is the Indian operation of NEP Group, the international production company that supplies the technology and technical crews behind many of the world's largest televised events. Based in Mumbai, NEP India provides outside broadcast facilities, live production and media technology services for sports events, entertainment shows and news programming in India, drawing on the resources of the NEP Worldwide Network. Its parent group, founded in 1984 in Scranton, Pennsylvania and headquartered in Pittsburgh, describes itself as the leading media technology partner for content creators worldwide, with facilities used to produce broadcasts of events including the Indian Premier League and the Cricket World Cup. NEP India is therefore best understood not as a standalone local facilities company but as the Indian node of a global production infrastructure: when a broadcaster stages a cricket series, an awards show or a major live programme in India, NEP is one of the companies that can supply the mobile units, flypack systems, studios, connectivity and engineers that make the broadcast physically happen.
Part of the NEP Worldwide Network
NEP Group was founded in 1984 by Tom Shelburne, began life as NEP Broadcasting (also known as NEP Supershooters), and has grown into a privately owned international production company employing more than 4,000 people. Its facilities are used for an unusually wide range of productions — global sports properties such as the Super Bowl, the Olympic Games, the FIFA World Cup, the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, Wimbledon and NASCAR sit alongside entertainment broadcasts such as the Academy Awards, the Grammy Awards, the Emmy Awards and the Eurovision Song Contest. NEP entered its current Asian configuration by acquiring Broadcast Solutions Group, the Singapore-headquartered provider of outside broadcast flypacks that had served the Pan-Asian region for sixteen years, with offices in India, the UAE and the UK and credits across cricket, golf, field hockey, football, tennis and kabaddi. Following that acquisition, Broadcast Solutions operated as NEP Broadcast Solutions under Saeed Izadi, and NEP positioned itself as a leading provider in the Asian and Indian markets, which its then chief executive Kevin Rabbitt described as key strategic priorities. Izadi subsequently served as president of NEP Singapore, India and Middle East, the regional structure within which NEP India operates.
Broadcast services in India
NEP India's broadcast services cover the full technical stack of live production. They include mobile units and outside broadcast (OB) vehicles, portable flypack systems that can be flown in and assembled at venues without permanent facilities, studio production, centralised (remote) production, host broadcast support services for rights holders staging major events, and systems integration for clients building their own facilities. Around those core services sit specialist disciplines: post-production, augmented reality, specialty capture, RF (wireless) solutions, and connectivity and transmission. The group's published regional figures illustrate the depth available to Indian clients through the network — thousands of employees including large numbers of trained technical engineers, dozens of OB trucks and broadcast flypack systems, and multiple studios and control rooms in the wider region. For an Indian broadcaster or event organiser, the practical offer is a single technical partner able to scale from one flypack at a domestic venue to a host-broadcast operation for an international tournament.
Live events and media solutions
Beyond broadcasting, NEP India's parent network operates in live events and media solutions, and those capabilities form part of the Indian offer. Live event services include LED screens and mobile LED screen trucks, projection and projection mapping, video display, video and content management, audio and lighting — the visual infrastructure of concerts, ceremonies and corporate events. Media solutions cover the back end of production: automated ingest, media asset management (through the group's Mediabank product), master control, remote commentary, live and non-live graphics, premium playout, advanced content delivery and system monitoring, underpinned by the group's TFC (Total Facility Control) platform. This breadth reflects a deliberate positioning. NEP presents itself to content creators as an end-to-end partner — outside broadcast, connected production, connectivity, specialty capture, facility control and asset management in one relationship — so that a sports league or entertainment producer can hand the entire technical problem to one company and concentrate on the editorial and commercial sides of a production.
Sports production and recognition in India
Sport is the centre of gravity of NEP's Indian business, in a country where cricket broadcasts are among the most technically demanding and commercially valuable television productions anywhere. NEP Group's facilities are used to produce Indian Premier League broadcasts, and the acquired Broadcast Solutions business brought a long record in Asian sport including cricket, golf, hockey, football, tennis and kabaddi. In October 2023, NEP Group was honoured by Digital Studio India — the country's broadcast industry trade organisation — with a Special Award for Excellence in Live Sports Production at the Digital Studio India Awards ceremony held at the Sofitel Mumbai BKC in Mumbai. The award was accepted on behalf of the company by Keshav Kaul, business head of NEP India. Saeed Izadi, as president for Singapore, India and the Middle East, said the company was proud to accept the award in a region NEP had long recognised as one of the fastest-growing media and entertainment markets in the world, and thanked the broadcasters and content creators across India that the company partners with. The recognition is a useful marker of NEP India's standing: it came from the Indian broadcast trade itself, for the discipline — live sport — on which the company's reputation is built.
How productions use NEP India
A production typically engages NEP India well before a single camera is switched on. For a sports series or a live entertainment show, NEP supplies the OB unit or flypack, the camera and replay infrastructure, graphics and specialty capture, transmission and connectivity, and the engineering and operations crew to run them — the engineering, technical, operations and commercial experts Izadi referred to when accepting the company's Indian award. Host broadcast work adds another layer: for major events, a host broadcaster must produce a neutral world feed that rights-holding broadcasters in many countries then build their own coverage around, a responsibility that demands scale, redundancy and experience that few local facilities companies can offer on their own. News programming sits at the other end of the scale, using studio production, master control, graphics and playout services rather than stadium OBs. In each case the economic logic for the client is the same: production technology is expensive, fast-changing and idle between events, so renting the capability — facilities plus the people who know how to run them — from a specialist with a worldwide fleet is more rational than owning it.
Mumbai base and regional structure
NEP India is based in Mumbai, the centre of India's television and film production industries and home to the headquarters or studios of most national broadcasters — the natural location for a facilities company whose clients are channels, leagues and producers. It operates within NEP's Singapore, India and Middle East regional grouping, an arrangement that lets Indian productions draw on equipment and personnel from across Asia and the group's worldwide network, and lets NEP deploy Indian-based expertise at events elsewhere in the region. The group's corporate history underlines that this structure was assembled deliberately: the Broadcast Solutions acquisition was explicitly framed as making NEP the leading provider of outside broadcast flypacks and strengthening its position across every continent. India's importance in that strategy is a function of volume — few countries stage as many televised cricket matches, entertainment formats and live events each year, and fewer still are growing their media markets as quickly.
Role in the Indian media ecosystem
Companies like NEP India are largely invisible to audiences, yet they are part of the reason Indian live television — above all Indian cricket — is technically comparable to the best-produced sport anywhere. Their role in the ecosystem is to professionalise and scale the production layer: standardising the quality of outside broadcasts, making host-broadcast operations possible for Indian events with global audiences, and giving smaller productions access to equipment and crews that would otherwise be confined to the biggest broadcasters. The centralised production models NEP promotes also change the geography of Indian television work, allowing galleries and control functions to be separated from venues and concentrated in hubs, with implications for cost, staffing and sustainability across the industry. In a directory of agencies and services, NEP India represents the heavy infrastructure end of the business — the trucks, flypacks, control systems and engineers without which the editorial ambitions of channels and leagues cannot be realised.
How to engage NEP India
Broadcasters, sports rights holders, event organisers and producers engage NEP India through its Mumbai presence and its website, nepgroup.in, which sets out its broadcast services, live events and media solutions and connects enquirers to the wider NEP Worldwide Network at nepgroup.com. Engagements are project-based and technical in character: a client brings an event or a production slate, and NEP scopes the facilities, systems and crew required, whether that is a single OB unit for a domestic fixture, a flypack deployment for a multi-city tournament, studio and playout services for a programme series, or LED and display infrastructure for a live event. For directory purposes, the essentials are that NEP India, based in Mumbai, is the Indian arm of NEP Group — founded in the United States in 1984 and expanded in Asia through the Broadcast Solutions acquisition — providing outside broadcast, live production and media technology services to Indian sports, entertainment and news productions, and recognised in 2023 by Digital Studio India for excellence in live sports production.
