Colorado Public Radio
Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is the statewide public radio network of Colorado — a nonprofit operating CPR News, CPR Classical, and Indie 102.3, plus the hyperlocal site Denverite.
About Colorado Public Radio
Colorado Public Radio traces its roots to 1970, when KCFR-FM signed on at the University of Denver — one of the first stations in the country to leave a university licensee and become community-licensed, separating from the university in 1984. The network now called Colorado Public Radio officially formed in 1991 through the merger of KCFR with KPRN in Grand Junction, extending news and classical programming across the state.
Today CPR operates three services — CPR News (news and talk), CPR Classical, and Indie 102.3 (adult album alternative) — on 15 full-power stations and 17 translators whose combined signal reaches about 80 percent of Colorado. It also manages KRCC, the NPR member station in Colorado Springs, in partnership with Colorado College, and in 2019 it acquired the hyperlocal news site Denverite from Spirited Media to strengthen its Denver web coverage.
CPR is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) owned by Public Broadcasting of Colorado Inc., with studios at the Bridges Broadcast Center in Centennial and a newsroom in downtown Denver. It is building a new consolidated headquarters at 777 Grant Street in Denver's Capitol Hill neighborhood. Its president and CEO is Stewart Vanderwilt.
