Delaware Public Media
Delaware Public Media is Delaware's NPR-member public radio news service — based in Dover, it went on the air August 17, 2012, as WDDE 91.1 FM, the first and only public radio news station founded in the First State, operated by an independent nonprofit.
About Delaware Public Media
Delaware Public Media began as Delaware First Media, a nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization that started as the online multimedia service DFM News. On April 12, 2012, Delaware First Media announced a historic collaboration with Delaware State University and the University of Delaware to launch WDDE-FM 91.1 in Dover — the first-ever Delaware-focused public radio station. The station signed on August 17, 2012, broadcasting from a studio on the Delaware State University campus in Dover, and NPR designated it both a minority-service and a rural-service station.
WDDE is owned and operated by Delaware First Media Corporation (now operating as Delaware Public Media), an independent nonprofit — despite its partnerships with DSU and UD, it is run independently of both universities. Its studios sit on the Delaware State University campus in Dover and its transmitter is on Mid State Road in Felton, with a signal reaching from northern Sussex County to the southernmost part of New Castle County. Simulcasts on WMPH 91.7 and WMHS 88.1 in Wilmington extend its reach weekday mornings and afternoons.
Today Delaware Public Media is the First State's only NPR-member news service, airing NPR news and talk with strong local reporting, reaching most of Delaware via the 91.1 Dover signal and Wilmington simulcasts. Its digital home is delawarepublic.org.
